Headline: Continuing very unsettled with more rain and showers. Mostly cool.
We all had a good dose of rain last week, with over an inch for most.
With the set up having been generally showery of late, local variations have occurred, so that for example on Friday morning Lampeter only had a couple of short sharp showers, while inland from Aberystwyth a lot of heavy and prolonged downpours gave almost an inch of rain. Meanwhile the west coast of Pembrokeshire has stayed more or less d
Summary
It has continued to be unsettled over the Alps, and much of the snow falling over higher slopes has been of snow, giving excellent skiing over the higher runs, however as we move further into April, more and more resorts close, but the majority will stay open until their designated end of season date.
A mixed picture over the Alps, rather unsettled but with some snow over higher slopes and resorts and some heavy falls in places as well.

In many walks of life, a journey doesn’t just have to be a means to an end- it can also be about incorporating enjoyment along the way. We see this in sports (referenced in my previous blog) where many fans like to be entertained with end-to-end football matches that end 4-3, in preference to the mechanical grinding out of 1-0 wins.
We’ve all heard about the major downsides of cars, but they’ve also given society many benefits. The thing is, though, the main advantages of cars are soc

Warwickshire too missed the worst of the showers this week, while other parts of the country saw several centimeters of lying hail and thunderstorms locally.

A very sharp frost for April last Thursday night, down to -6c at Llanwnnen.
Coventry had as much rain on Tuesday and Wednesday as it did in the whole of March. Rugby was even wetter receiving a very useful 24mm in the bid to prevent a hosepipe ban this Summer! These parts also saw a little snow for a while. West Wales has only had small amounts of rain of late, although this will change in the coming we
Firstly I must apologise for this not being published on Friday when it was written, I have only just noticed it was still in draft.

Finally we come towards the end of the season, this is the last full blog of the season although there will an update every Friday or Saturday until the end of April.
As expected, it turned unsettled towards the end of last week, however the snow level was high than expected at around 2000-2200m, but still some decent snowfalls did occur abo
The weather on Skye from October right through to March has been pretty awful, not much snow has fallen, nor did we get the settled mid winter spell either. Instead it was rain and wind all he way. The locals had said to me it was the worse winter for 20 years maybe more and some of these locals have leved in Skye for 50 years and more!
And now that we have moved?
Last week was amazing, we are only a few miles from those record breaking areas, and even today ot was lovely just to wander

Quite a week just gone, with Winter and Summer in a day, from scraping the ice off to sunbathing a few hours later. Hard to better for prolonged warmth and sunshine in March, even if the Welsh and English records remained in tact. Most of us saw 20 or 21c; with Llanwnnen having 4 consecutive days above 20c, while Coventry had it's warmest March day since 1965. For
Summary
The Alps has joined the UK in enjoying warm sunshine this week, with suntan lotion a must however this has meant that snow levels have dropped this week, by around 30cm, however at least temps have been cold overnight to refreeze the lying snow.
Best conditions can be seen on north facing slopes and the higher up you go the better the conditions. Elsewhere conditions are turning progressively slushy into the afternoon as the powerful sun melts the snow.

GREAT STORM OF JANUARY 2012:
Woke up at 6am to the sound of an almighty gust of wind that made the most incredible bangs. The roar, drone and rumble of the wind was endless and loud and I could hear it smashing some area of the town, just hoping that the particular gust won't reach here. The gusts were constent and mental. I could hear and feel the door about to explode open, I could hear all the bins falling over and damage to roofs and I just thought that the wor

All of us have seen very warm, sunny conditions over recent days, Saturday was exceptionally warm in west Wales, with most of Ceredigion reaching 20 or 21c, this being 9 or 10c above the late March average! Sunday is similarly Summer-like.
More dry, very warm and mainly sunny weather for much of the coming this week. High pressure is currently centred over the North Sea dragging up this warm continental air f
Summary
A very topsy turvy week in the Alps, as forecast there was heavy snow in parts of the Alps around the last weekend and the start of last week to quite low levels, however much milder conditions has meant that most of this snow has thawed, with conditions now very similar to that of last week.
Mild conditions seem quite likely for next week, so a further thaw seems likely, so good weather for skiing, even if the snow is likely to turn slushy in the afternoon and again suntan

Although mainly dry this past week, the high pressure which suggested some warm, and at times sunny weather, in reality contained a lot of quite cool, moist air. At least around Lampeter we did see a few very mild and sunny afternoons last week, however the Cardigan Bay coast and central MIdlands saw plenty of cloud and mist, with temperatures restri
It goes without saying how tragic the coach crash in Switzerland was this past week, and my thoughts are with those families effected.
Summary
The weather across the Alps has been mild over recent weeks with glorious skiing conditions however there has been a rapid thaw in some places, with over 30cm of snow loss over the past week
However there are signs that there will be some snowfall this week, initially in western areas on Sunday, this transferring to central parts later
Summary
The weather across the Alps continues to be mild for the most parts with spring skiing conditions, there has been some fresh snow but this is largely confined to higher resorts. Further down resorts have been losing their snow cover, and slopes are seeing the snow base thin and turn slushy, however snow levels are still quite good after heavy snow earlier in the winter,
Next week is looking mostly dry and turning milder, so the best of the skiing conditions in the morning.

As we move into March, the technical winter period is now over, but the skiing season across the Alps continues into April for many resorts, and depending on the snow conditions, into late April in many resorts.

It has been a very strange winter across the Alps, and most of Europe generally, mild to start with a notable lack of snowfall, however once in started in early to Mid December, it has been very snowy and very cold over the Alps with great skiing conditions. Over the past few days it has turned very mild which has led a thaw especially on lower slopes, given the excellent snow depths that is not too much of a concern in the short term, however it is also set to be mild for mos
