Storms and Convective discussion - May 2024

[Southern Storm]

 Arnie Pie I'm hoping to stream something later if anything develops at my location overlooking Portsmouth, only problem is all the boy/girl racers parked up blaring out loud music  

If anyone knows the area, are there any other viewpoints nearby that doesn't attract youths? God I feel old typing that

Storms seem to be losing all their juice as they head up towards London at the moment.

Large, lazy drops of rain just started. Intensity of lightning reducing a little, although individual strikes closer.

 Frosty hollows im sure it was, ive seen lighting from storms in kent before at night, and devon - and those must have been at least 100miles away.

Massively active storms here along the Estuary

Seen CGs, fork lightning and had nearly continuous thunder for nearly an hour from half 11 to quarter past 12

Very potent storm moving over Brighton. Here's one of the clips I've captured, I've never seen lightning so bright before.

Holy moly just saw my first Sprite (lightning not the drink) just missed out getting it on a timelapse as it was well above some ACCAS.

I have over an hour of video to review; difficult to know if there were actually any ground strokes near us; it looked mostly veiled by cloud.

I have a gut feeling this area is going to explode and head into the London area in the coming hour…

Eastbourne is getting some hits now, and will get some serious rain; it's then likely to sweep along the coast over Seaford and weaken still further. The strike rate has now dropped by half, so it mightn't be much by the time it gets to Chichester and then on to Winchester. What a wonderful display! I think it's done here, so I'll sign off.
