I didn’t bother to post earlier and fell back to sleep!

we started with fine dry snow which covered everything but this then turned to larger flakes and things began to melt. This continued on and off with very little additional coverage.
Just took the dog out and it’s all changed. Heavy settling snow and a blizzard blowing from the east which is the worse for my field as no shelter. Me and dog retreated back inside- her leading the way. Cars all covered again cobbles struggling but trees all white. Temp now below freezing and dew point below that and while looking at weather station it dropped again !

Fans of sleet will be enjoying today. We have more of a snowier edge to the precipitation but very wet and nothimg sticking as yet, still only moderate. I feel if it doesn't pep up in the next couple of hours it will be a bust for snow cover below 200m.. will see..

I've heard the shield is when it's more south east wind. Easterly today? I'm on tram into manc willing it to snow. It did briefly.  This type of snow event rarely delivers for manc. Was forever thus. Bring on those lovely Irish Sea showers. Thats our fab friend

Yes I think you are on to something there.

There really hasn’t been much of a shield today , loads of big puddles everywhere. I think a direct E’ly or NE’ly may be better. Noting this for future.

0.4c dew -1c sideways snizzle in lighter precipitation… had full on sideways snow for an hour… covering to an inch where it’s been blown probably 3 inches… very wet sticky snow… might venture to top of road in a bit… just making beef bourguignon and mash

Heavy, blowing snow and a wicked wind from the east. Just a shame most surfaces were always going to be too wet and warm to allow it to settle properly. With frozen ground we'd have had 5 or 6 inches.

Joe Bloggs it's just not cold enough that's the main problem. Temp and dew above freezing.

Dark Horse sorry I meant there has not been a shield preventing the precipitation . Lack of precipitation / too light hasn’t been the issue. Fairly moderate to heavy all morning.

The fact the air has more moisture  (supportive of rain rather than snow) has maybe helped to an extent but not the full story I’d suspect.

Heavier precipitation over lancashire, as said next couple of hours our best chance of a wet temporary cover.

Reading the Yorkshire thread, seems south and west yorkshire are doing well, with snow in many places and a decent cover.
