tricol Could rival 1998 at this rate.. That month brought a very mild middle but was also quite wet dull. 1998 did end cold with a northerly.. there are many many comparisons with winter 97-98 and this one, both very strong el nino years.

Back to the here and now, good to see daylight extending beyond half 5 in the afternoon, we 've firmly shaken off the dark period of the year.

Popped out the front door this morning into some sunshine and it felt genuinely warm. Been out and about this afternoon and seen daffodils out and blossom on trees. Easy to forget its mid February in Cumbria and not mid March in Cornwall.

Heavy showers on and off all day today, constant mist over the tops.  Friend took me for coffee at the Counting House (Wetherspoons) in Congleton, nice little run out, but the rain didn't let up.  I was hoping to spot my first lamb, anyone seen any lambs yet?  Max of 11.4°C.

Radar shows the rain and drizzle have died out but it’s still raining up here.

oh how much do I love living on an exposed SE facing hillside in conditions like this😫

Seems Cumbria the bright spot in the region today. A very benign day for mid Feb. Tomorrow set to be a wet affair unfortunately for a Saturday.

Giving up on this winter now, nothing cold on the horizon. Overall it's been a poor one, not as diabolical as 2013-14, 2018-19 or 2021-22 but crap non the less.......... So here's to a bitter March haha. As the days grow longer the cold gets stronger!! 🥶🥶🥶

Dark Horse tbh spring has been on my mind recently and as you say time is running out fast and the chances of any long lasting cold are diminishing day by day

Another dark sunless day with bits of drizzly drops.   No wind.  Everywhere sodden.   House lights on all the time.   Max 9.8C but never felt comfortably warm.

Just want to add RIP Alexei Navalny. Murdered by the Russian state. How many opponents has Putin got rid of now? I hope the Russian people get better leadership in the future with free and fair elections. It's such a great country with so much potential.

I think "bald and bankrupt" sums up things well if you skip to 18:25 in the video just how terribly the Russian people have been treated by their own governments one after the other.

Dark Horse Russia is a tin pot dictatorship state with nuclear weapons… bit like North Korea…

and Trump says he’d give them impunity to bomb or invade NATO countries who don’t pay their way… wow… Putin and Trump…

Got caught in a odd spell of soaking drizzly rain coming home tonight, nothing on the radar though.

Chatting to a friend on the east coast/ mid Atlantic of the USA (Delaware) so by no means the colder, snowier New England States N/ NE  of New York - they are expecting a few inches of wet snow tonight and quite often see despite their coastal location and similar daytime winter averages close to 6-8c,  battleground snow events that dump 4-6+ inches of snow quite widely. In NW England that would most definitely be cold rain/ sleet on the hills maybe a few flakes over Buxton! 😄

Looks like yesterdays drizzlefest has no interest in moving off to give a dry few minutes before the heavy rain moves in later.

another damp and miserable day to add to to the ever increasing list of damp and miserable days since last autumn.

Morning all a drier start down S Cheshire way this morning but not by much, v mild but with yet more rain due from around mid afternoon ☔️

In total contrast to the East coast of the states where DC to NYC are being blanketed by another few inches of snow on top of an earlier Winter Storm that impacted the region this week. Areas right on the coast such as Atlantic City, NJ seeing decent accumulation. They’ve had a much more winter like winter this year compared to last year that was snowless for many of those areas.

As expected a thoroughly dull miserable day weatherwise here. Low cloud down to valley level, persistant dank mizzle (misty rain), everything soaking damp. Looking at the radar a heavy pulse of rain knocking on our door right now. A quick descent into dusk anticipated. Its mild at 11 degrees and no wind, but for a half term Saturday its very poor for anyone planning outdoor activities. A very drab far too non wintry core winter period mid Jan - mid Feb has passed again.. im ready for spring now and no doubt a white easter!
