East Lancs Rain You can be assured there'll be some showers amongst those days. It's nearly an inevitability at this point

Alderc 2.0 March is a transition month, the first half is pretty much the end of winter and what we think of as spring weather rarely arrives before the equinox. After a year with a jet stream displaced further south than normal over the southern half of the UK, I'm hoping the increasing temperatures from now will encourage it to start migrating northward. Attached is the 250mb zonal wind anomaly over Europe from March 2023 to February 2024. It shows how ridiculously persistent the jet stream has been stuck over much of northern Europe over that time.

Not surprised to see clag and showers specifically covering the east again.

Very very common pattern throughout 2023 and 2024. I imagine if this continues to develop in future years as a "new norm" then the stat averages will change in terms of the SE being the sunniest and driest places in the country.

Went to a lovely wedding at the Hare Krishna in Watford this weekend which sadly was a washout outside. Didn't take away from what was a magical day.

That said, more facking rain down here in the South East and all I can say now is that my interest in spring and summer this year is gone. The abhorrent autumn and winter has killed my enthusiasm for the weather for the rest of 2024. It's like Winter 23/24 didn't get the invite to show up! It's truly depressing.

Another stunning day here with unbroken sunshine and it barely rained last night. Might even be able to mow the lawn come Friday. Considering the February just gone was more like an average April temperature wise, no surprise the grass has grown back since the last cut back in mid January.

Just spotted on the MetO forecast for Friday the first moderate UV sign.

SussexSnowman YEa Im feeling this tbh. I'm institutionalised by the cloud and rain. It just is and will continue to be. Cloudy for a whole year! Ridiculous

SunnyG obviously its not -30c all the time in winter..in fact -30c is about as common as +30c in summer..happens on average 6-8 times a year

I try to stay optimistic, but I have a feeling that the second half of March would be dire, probably due to High Pressure being at the worst possible place, in the North

…but the E & SE WAS the sunniest and driest part of the country in 2023….

Seems like the north is doing better than the south today, unusual.

12.6C the max here and almost unbroken sunshine. Much better than forecast by the Met Office and considerably milder.

Rostherne and Hereford are the two warmest places in the country today by the looks of it.

It shows how much the sun has strengthened now as the setup isn't that impressive but has delivered a very mild day early in the month.

Unexpectedly mild today, I was overdressed with a coat and scarf. Was warm enough to cycle without a coat.

raz.org.rain Yes it was- I saw lots of people overdressed in coats and hats etc. The sun has felt surprisingly warm for so early in the month.

Scorcher I noticed the suns strength. Sadly, we probably wont see it a lot this month according to the hopeless forecasts (Some are even predicting a dire second half to March)

Imagine if we end up with a March so bad we will be begging for another March 2023 😂

Hey fellow sufferers in the South East, don't despair about missing out on the sun that the rest of the country had the past few days, our clear skies are coming!

As soon as the sun sets, we get our clear skies! Yaaaay!

Oh.

The outlook looks rubbish for here in the east for the next week with winds constantly from the east in some form or other bringing lots of cloud. The only plus is that it looks mainly dry.

Today it did brighten up a bit mid-afternoon on, but we still can't seem to string together a fully clear day even yesterday clouded over bt 2pm.
