Wet and drizzly here in Leicester. Lots of puddles everywhere and fields are looking soggy again. That dry week we’ve just had has had any effects pretty much reversed over the past 24 hours. Constant light rain and drizzle. If it isn’t doing that, then it’s overcast skies from dawn till dusk.

Sense a Spring Post Mortem thread will be in the works if this trend of garbage weather continues!

Another grey and grotty morning, but at least it's due to warm up this week. 16c with sunny spells by Thursday should feel very nice.

Another sunless day, a mouldy old trough of pig-slop to endure yet again. Probably spend the afternooon in bed.

I think Met Offices 5-14 day forecast should be scaled down to just 5-10 days. They never talk about "the end of the period" and its not like they get it right anyway. Praying for decent weather around my birthday, which is March 25th

Blanket grey white skies again, but at least the rain and wind has sodded off, so a bog standard overcast March day.

Sun Chaser I can imagine this March will be like March 2021. A dry-ish but dull start, then an improvement towards the end. Perhaps the warmth pushed to around 23rd-24th March instead

Sun Chaser Have to say that from the GFS Thursday looks pretty awful here though Sunday looks ok by GFS 06z (not 00z).

In better news though the GFS  is going for a proper settling down next week, two alternative settling down scenarios being modelled in the 00z and 06z.  This week looks absolutely vile though - constant moisture-laden southwesterlies, as if we haven't had enough of that already for the past 9 months!

No real signal to suggest how the SSW will impact us yet, the outlook remains very bland. Having said that, there's some suggestion of a growing influence from Iberian heights, which hopefully won't translate into more mild rain. It does suggest a more southerly influence though.

Yet another chilly, overcast and murky day here. Currently 7.4°C. It’s the cloud and the gloominess I hate more than rain, I’d rather have sunshine and showers than just dry but overcast all day.

baddie Yes, but we are already at 40mm 11 days in, for a month that averages 38mm, after 9 months of well above average rainfall.

East Lancs Rain it's woeful. Not many climates that are more depressing and all-consumingly boring than our climate in bad years like 2023 and 2024 (thus far). Maybe Ireland, the Faroe Islands, parts of Norway, northern Denmark, etc. That's about it.

raz.org.rain GFS 00z and 06z not so bland for next week though, could produce some nice settled anticyclonic spring weather if they happen.

Daniel* Not sure we've exceeded it in southern Hampshire yet but possible. Some heavy and prolonged spells of rain on the 1st, 5th and yesterday (10th) with lighter/shorter-duration falls on many of the other days. Only the 6th-8th were completely dry, IIRC.

Lots of standing water everywhere. At least we're going in the "right" direction for sun strength, it would be grim indeed to be in the same situation for excessive rainfall but in November with several dark months still ahead of us.

The first 8 days were relatively bright though, which is something. A return to dull over the past three days though with almost no sunshine since Friday. It looks like clearer air has been attempting to move in for the past 24 hours, but still hasn't made it.

Much wetter than March 2021, though, I would guess, with the first half likely to be very wet indeed in some places. Several spells of unseasonably heavy and prolonged rainfall, and several more in the next few days, this is almost certain to be another very wet month even if the last 2 weeks are dry.

Perhaps like a wetter version of 2017, or 2019, if we're very lucky and it does settle down next week?

Summer8906 More sunshine will do for me. Only 20 hours in the first 10 days and unlikely to change by that much by the 15th. March 2021 was actually as dull as March 2023 until the equinox, before the warm and sunny-ish last third brought totals up (Though still slightly duller than average anyways)

  • April 2024 - Was it that cold overall? A look at the statistics

General perception from many is that April was a cold month, but statistics would suggest otherwise, with the average temperature for the whole month coming in just above the 30 year average for the UK as a whole. A warm first half to to the month averaged out the cold second half. View the full blog here
