Finally some interesting weather. A very heavy shower moving through with hail sleet and now some flakes of snow! Road out the front is now a slushy white.

Made it to 17c yesterday with strong wind blowing sandy  topsoil across the A96 east of Elgin . Much colder  start to today at 2c with just as strong wind with some sharp blustery showers. Dusting of snow down to 1000feet on surrounding hills

Real mix of everything in Edinburgh City Centre. Hail, sleet and snow! Horrible!

A blustery blue skied day in the north east, missing the showers going around elsewhere, not sure that'll be the case tomorrow though, pleasant out of the wind.

I actually cut the grass today, but never have I felt so cold sat on the ride-on mower doing it. Took the opportunity as the grass was dry enough, we're away over Easter, so could be a while before the next chance comes around. Although it was bright and sunny the strong wind could have cut you in two.

Sunny spells and sudden showers here but not lasting. That cold wind is murder though.

We were planning on heading to the French Alps for Easter, sneak in a bit of skiing possibly. Maybe I'm better staying at home?

Stormy day yesterday with heavy squally showers with mix of snow flakes sleet and hail, slushy deposits now and again temp at 3pm 1.7C, more heavy showers overnight 20mm rainfall everywhere sloppy again. Pigs have stayed in bed as still wet and windy this morning.

Heavy, frequent - but brief - squally rain showers since dawn; brief spells of sunshine inbetween.

Bitterly cold in that strong NW wind even though the thermometer had a max of 9c.

Alpine weather so here's a shot of a alpine saxifrage currently in full bloom.

It's a setup I'd expected to occur at some point this month as one of my top analogues continues to be 2012>2013

The classic negatively tilted trough with sliding low as became a noteable feature in 2013

Models still getting a handle on this particular evolution however a snow event becoming increasingly likely during March 25th through 27th IMO.

A plethora of potential hazards within this setup.

Significant snowfall

Possible flash flooding at lower levels on the southern end of the boundary

We go back into sub zero windchill values which gradually increase with a strengthening Southeast > East > (Northeasterly) in some parts.

Possible gales from the North Sea.

Some of the models get the boundary far enough south that with the initial interaction a wide area of Scotland sees at least falling snow.

 Quinach Purple Saxifrage?

As has been reported elsewhere (!!!) it's been a pretty weathery week with some persistently strong and gusty winds (more tree damage locally) and some heavy bleeping showers - some wintriness in them on Friday although nothing settled obvs here. I've dusted off the bike and had some rides out, sometimes getting unpleasantly chilled on the face and clarted in mud in places I should have known better to go in current conditions.

The garden is doing very little yet and the only seeds sown so far are broad beans. I've repotted my juvenile Yellow Gentians (G. lutea) for the 1st time and it was a bit of a nightmare tbh, the narrow tubers are more brittle than I was expecting. However I think I wrecked only one or two. They're now in tall pots and will hopefully flower in the next few years...

Been nice in the sunshine here today in lighter winds with just a couple of rogue showers. Those the type with large drops of rain which happened of course just as I started the first grass cut of the year. Noticed an active ants nest which I am sure is very early, Also bumble bees, a wasp and some midges.

High wind  chill all day here with brief sharp showers obviously falling as snow above 1000 feet as some very strong arctic colours in the shower clouds as they moved over the Cairngorms to the south. Not a day for standing around. Should have posted this yesterday.

  • Totally different today no wind   some long sunny spells and just a few light showers. Got a few outside jobs done including taking down electric fence in neeps as last row finished. Fine when the sun was out but mid afternoon we picked up a light NE wind off the Firth with a chill  in it after the NW wind of yesterday. So the pattern was changing today.   Lots of geese stocking up on half decent fields of winter wheat and barley They will be here a while yet if this NE wind persists. Currently 5c

Pretty nice day here today, warm in the sun, buds everywhere and the gorse flowering (reminds me of home in Cornwall). We're off to do a bit of the west highland way over the weekend. Bridge of Orchy to Fort William. Initially we were going to wild camp, but I chickened out so now staying in a cabin at Glencoe and in an inn at Kinlochleven. Carrying our own bags though. Hoping to do the full route at some point, will definitely camp then, before I get too old and stiff.
