Hairy Celt Yep, Saxifraga Oppositifolia.  Flowers don't last very long but lovely when out and grows easily in the garden here - just as well as the speugs have a bad habit of ripping the mounds apart, so plenty of cutting material.

As for the weather, horrible windy morning of heavy showers of rain and hail - even some sleet around Alford at 8am.

Afternoon a lot better with some decent spells of sunshine and the winds dying down, max of 8c.

Currently 3c outside and clear skies, but as noted above the much advertised aurora is not to be seen, just a moon halo to compensate...

Deja Vu 😏😂😂

Screenshot-20240324-221238-Chrome.jpg

''There is a small chance that power cuts will occur and other services, such as mobile phone coverage, may be affected

There is a slight chance that some rural communities could become cut off

Where flooding occurs, there is a slight chance of delays or cancellations to train and bus services

Spray and flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures

There is a small chance of travel delays on roads with some stranded vehicles and passengers, along with delayed or cancelled rail and air travel

Issued: 10:53 (UTC) on Sun 24 Mar 2024

A band of persistent rain and snow will move north across Scotland overnight Monday into Tuesday. At low elevations (below 150-200 metres) this will fall mostly as rain, with 35-45 mm falling quite widely over Fife, Angus and Aberdeenshire and perhaps more than 50 mm in some locations with surface water causing some spray on roads. At moderate elevations (above 150-200 metres) snow is more likely, mainly 1-2 cm of slushy deposits, but 2-5 cm possible in some places affecting higher transport routes. At higher elevations (above 300 metres ) 10-20 cm may fall causing travel issues on higher routes."

I'll be surprised if it doesn't get upgraded to an Amber and possibilities of extension further south.

Really cool meteorological dynamics involved here with a connection of Jet Stream energy combining to an ever increasing unstable atmosphere.

The SRH values give a great insight

animxzr5.gifanimmwm8.gif

animcsi3.gif

As the atmosphere continues to destabilise we will have an increasingly Lowering isotherm from the East Northeast feeding into precipitation, combining the above dynamical aspects this will act to switch the rain into snow and given such a volatile atmosphere the trends are there for high precip rates ie snowfall rates.

animowe4.gifanimhid6.gif

animrdt1.gifanimzxl2.gif

As this system continues to develop there might be a spell with blizzard type conditions as an area of gales form initially toward the North Sea near Fife also toward the Tay Estuary, this could then transfer further Northeast perhaps nearing Aberdeen. Then across the Moray Firth into Inverness.

animott8.gifanimqob1-1.gif

With it being late March it's just naturally less likely for snow to lay however I expect many of us across Fife, Angus, Perth and Kinross extending into Aberdeenshire seeing at least a few cm is a reasonable shout with surprises a high possibility particularly where the high snow rates set up.

Halfamilefromnowhere One thing is guaranteed and that's that we only get an aurora forecast if there's a blanket of cloud!

Chilly this morning but benign compared to tomorrow morning... probably just about cold enough for some seasonal sleet.

Miserable here this afternoon. Wet with a cold wind off the North Sea, Temp has fallen from 6.2C in the late morning to 2.4C now.
Strange that the yellow warning has gone. Can only think that they do not think that the rain/snow is going to be as heavy or persistent as they originally forecast.

2C and could be just about called wet snow when I left for work this morning, 1C and definitely snowing when I got home. Very wet and struggling to settle but hills have a wet looking sparse cover. Doesn't look from recent forecasts that it'll come to anything much more than that.

Heading to France at the end the week for Easter, hopefully making it to Montgenevre in the alps with the motorhome, on the French/Italian border. Forecast for there is looking quite snowy this week, so with luck I'll post some skiing pics.

Not sure what i call this... but im definitely gonna say it wont be causing any disruption here..  Bennachie might be white by the morning but thats as good as its gonna get.. some further inland with more elevation may wake to something..

BBC weather radar showed that the heaviest rain is missing us to the East so though it will be wet and snowy on higher ground the heavier stuff has missed, hence the removal of the warnings by the MO.
Here wet at 3C just now.

Barely raining in Edinburgh… forecast was showing moderate to persistent rainfall, and what we have is barely an intermittent spray.

So no chance of seeing any flakes later, I was hoping the predicted heavy rain and dropping 850 temps could have helped bring temperatures down low enough for snow.

edinburgh_1992  Not heavy here either but has been sleeting here at low levels for the last couple of hours despite the heaviest precipitation being offshore. Currently sleeting at1.8C.
Inland snow lying down to around 200 mtrs and falling to lower. Here is the A 822 currently north of Crieff at just over 200 mtrs asl.

edit. Not far off snow here now.

Northernlights Our garden is green and the sky is blue with barely any wind. Solar panels going for it. After Sunday's forecast, Ms HC was telling her colleagues yesterday that today was going to be a sleety hell....

Now 9C after an overnight min of 5C.

A little snow in our garden this morning but wet and patchy. Snow line on the hills around Alford looked to be about 300m, quite white above 400m.

Today has been a day of much gorgeousness with clear, blue skies and sunshine! Damned cauld an' a'! As for the white stuff, well, we'll see, eh? There's a chance we may see some tomorrow, but I'm not holding my breath!  ❄️❄️

Currently clear at 3c

Yesterday = yuk

Today = yuk morning, acceptable afternoon

Lot more sunshine than forecast this afternoon, allowing things to dry up and raise temperature up to a max of 5c.  Top of surrounding hills have stayed white all day, and its frosty at the moment with the grass nice and crunchy.

More soggy weather tomorrow by the looks of things.

Nice pink sunset this evening.

Spring always provides a period or periods like this. Bitterly cold north winds and a serious lack of warmth despite the strengthening sun which is higher in the sky - not that we necessarily see much of it. Every year I get annoyed by it even though I should fully expect it.

Some surprise snow.... Not sure if it was much worse during the night although assume it must've been given the amount of slush. Light/moderate snow falling now and much whiter than the photo.
