  1. It is the mother of all coincidences but every single time Ms Kirkwood says humdingers, little or nothing happens. The campaign to stop her uttering this word starts today.
  2. Post from Tony Gilbert on UKWW : Thunderstorms may continue for a while in the SE but the low level atmospheric conditions suggest stability spreading out in all directions.
  3. The New York Chamber of Commerce? Detroit? Beyond the Sun? Anywhere is possible.
  4. Most interesting aspect of the July 2014 storms for me was the amount of anvil crawler lightning. Not just in my location but in many places across the country.
  5. Got friends in Morden who hate storms (absolutely hate them)...going by that picture I'll wager they're stressing out a bit right now!
  6. Key questions :Have you got half a pack of cigarettes? Is it dark? Are you wearing sunglasses?
  7. No coincidence that snow and thunderstorms are tricky weather types to forecast.
  8. Started getting a tan going yesterday. Was looking forward to getting some more sun today to top it up.... Sunny first thing today, but cloud invaded a couple of hours ago, and looks in no hurry to shift!
  9. Just what gives with the M4 corridor? It's a snow/rain boundary line in winter, now in summer its influencing things again.
  10. Wee bit of fretting going on with some of you Southern guys. I would say chill, but.... Carol Kirkwood uttered the jinx word (humdingers)...and the met office warning update can only be described as something of a downgrade. Still...early yet.
  11. Half melted big flakes mixed in with the heavier bursts of rain. Yuk! 3.6c
  12. Rain - temp 4.4c and falling. Down from 7.2c before the rain arrived. Edit : 4.0c
  13. Snow in Ireland was falling to modest elevation. Whether that happens here who knows. Would be nice to see snow again, not had much during the winter as the PM shots were all toothless.
  14. Better winter than its predecessor - had it not been then mass emigration could have been on the cards. Overall however, for this neck of the woods, it has been pretty disappointing. None of the polar maritime shots had any teeth. Only one snowfall of any significance on Boxing Day, which was the slushy type that froze solid, meaning a second winter in succession where it wasn't possible for my kids to make a snowman.
  15. That's a joke right?....I get it. Haven't seen the sun for what seems like forever zzzz
  16. Sunshine will cheer me up. Fed up to the back teeth of grey skies now.
  17. I have to concur with this. It doesn't feel THAT cold. This cold spell has (away from elevation) been a wretched fail. I don't recall too many January northerlies in previous winters where marginality was such a major factor. I can imagine the only people who are enjoying this spell are those who are living at elevation, or have ridiculously dumbed down expectations.I've had enough of this winter now anyway..I say we take off and nuke it from orbit...it's the only way to be sure...
  18. So what was the point of that warning then? It didn't snow...and there is no ice either...just wet. This "screaming northerly" is turning out to be a load of hyped up hot air in truth. Just about more irritating than the met office throwing yellow warnings around like so much confetti at a wedding...and not one has been worthy of being issued. For a "cold" spell it hasn't half rained/sleeted a lot away from elevation, also it is distinctly noticeable that if you are out of the wind and have a bit of sunshine it dare I say it feels reasonable. Big freeze? Don't make me laugh.
  19. Rain of course....can guarantee there will be a Wales shaped mild sector in there! While Ingurlund gets the snow
  20. Given that recent met office snow warnings have proven to be inaccurate and unwarranted, I'm not going to take any notice of this latest one. Not sure a warning of a "possible" 1-2cm at lower levels is warranted either.
