Dont fall for it guys...it won't happen. Just keep telling yourselves that and you won't be disappointed when it doesn't happen.

January 2015 CET forecasts

5.8c Not convinced this winter will deliver. Wont be as horrific as its predecessor, but one to forget all the same. -
Biggest Christmas storms in UK history
Carl46Wrexham replied to BlueSkies_do_I_see's topic in Spring Weather Discussion
Christmas Eve storm of 1997 was a really nasty one in North Wales. Winds in excess of 90mph. Was working for Merseyside and North Wales Electricity Board at the time...more than 50,000 people without power here from Christmas Eve into Boxing Day. Christmas Day was wet and very windy as well. -
Fair enough, but I can't for the life of me understand why people are trying to put a positive spin on the current pattern. Yes it's delivered up north at elevation, but for the rest of us it has frankly been pretty crap in truth unless rain in frontal bands followed by rain in the form of showers does it for you on the basis that it feels cold. Oh and avoid the accusation that I seek snowy weather and nothing else, I'll just add this. Were I given the choice of a continuation of the current pattern or a spell of dry weather with temperatures of 12c+, it would be the mild every single time.

If normal cold means rain and wind followed by rain showers then...quite frankly no not really. Waterlogging of fields in my area has started courtesy of the hours of heavy rain from the other night. If this is going to be the general pattern for the rest of the month then December will get a low mark.

I doubt it...that idiot says the same damn thing every year. Lives in a world of his own. I have this image of him during the summer months wandering around his little bedsit after a night of deep inhalation of his own farts, doodling snowmen all over his walls and writing "I AM NOT MAD" everywhere with his favourite crayon.

How bad is your snow addiction ?
Carl46Wrexham replied to stewfox's topic in Spring Weather Discussion
Usually a 7 but as it's been 18 months since I last saw snow, it's now an 8. -
I noticed a few postings ago talking of people writing the winter off. I for one didn't say I was writing it all off. Fact is though, we are nearly at halfway through the first month of December, with the majority having as yet seen nothing that could be described as remotely wintry. What we have had is the odd frost, a big gale and a fair bit of rain both in the form of frequent showers and frontal. As I said I am not writing the whole season off, but I do feel that the time is fast approaching when it may be wise to trash this month. The models do not show anything of encouragement within the reliable, that is a fact. It is already noticeable that people are already having to make jam tomorrow postings suggesting the promised land could start coming into range in 10/12 days time. Smacks of last time round a wee bit too much for my liking. I'm not saying people shouldn't post Jam tomorrow stuff, but surely it can be understood that some will be sceptical after what happened last time round...Jam tomorrow that never actually came. The dread of a repeat is difficult to suppress and it doesn't help knowing that a milder period with rain is coming.

How many more days before we can consign this month to the bin? Nearly halfway through and for the majority of us it's been pretty poor fare. The models frankly don't give much scope for optimism for the foreseeable future either unless you are up a Scottish mountain. Have only had 1 air frost so far (3rd Dec) and not so much as a single "wintry" shower...plenty of rain and rain showers though. Not experienced anything yet to convince me that it's "better than last winter". Better than last winter in my book would be either cold snowy weather or mild and dry weather. It's neither though, it's cold wet garbage. Sorry, just calling it as im seeing it.

Diane Oxley is a mild ramper. Ignore. Pretty sure someone hit her in the face with a snowball once, as you get the impression she does her utmost to avoid saying the word snow.
-
You could of course look at it another way. It's cold, wet and windy instead of mild wet and windy. Like having to choose between warm dog crap and cold white dog crap. Neither hold any appeal. When it's pouring with rain and blowing a gale as it was last night, the first thought that springs to mind is not "oh well at least the wind is coming from a different direction". More likely to be "oh great here we go again, just like last year then"
-
Mild dry weather would be really nice. Not liking this current pattern one bit. Yeah great for the Scottish mountains and possibly higher parts of Northern England. For the rest of us it's cold and wet, with another bout of rain and wind incoming followed by what are termed "wintry" showers but in reality turn out to be heavy rain showers, possibly with a few half melted hailstones if you're "lucky" Seeing posts in the MOD suggesting nothing particularly snowy likely this side of Christmas, I'd be willing to wager it'll only be a matter of time before this month gets binned as a fail. Sorry but windstorms and rain don't do it for some of us...we saw far too much of that crap last time round.

More wind and rain. What joy! -
This would be more accurate..........

Seem to recall similar postings last year. No one needs any reminders as to what subsequently transpired. If this season turns out anything like the previous "winter", I for one will fast come round to looking upon the winter season with a sense of loathing.
