  1. Yet 50 miles away at Manchester Airport (not exactly renowned for being elevated), they're suspending landing and take offs while they clear snow from the runway!!! Just adds to the frustration!
  2. Buzz off you've had yours already. Let the rest of us get in on it.
  3. Spot on for those of us at lower levels I should have said. Until he says we (as in all of us) can expect a significant snow event then the message is a simple one. Don't believe the hype.
  4. Has to be said tho...Derek Brockway called it spot on.
  5. Winter 2014/15. : The Wrong Side of Marginal & missed opportunities.
  6. nothing..... Back to sleep...zzzz how long til Spring?
  7. As cold spells go, not a good start is it? Rain Friday and any snow at the weekend currently looks confined to coastal areas.
  8. Raining....sigh! Move on...nothing to see here.
  9. Don't forget "lightening"as well...don't know why but that misspelling really grinds my gears!
  10. BBC Weather App shows no snow for my area at all and no air frosts until Monday. Some cold spell this is (not) going to be. Roll on Spring.
  11. And to think our met office issues warnings for 2cm of snow...and uses words like "disruption". Is it any wonder people in other countries laugh at us? Back on topic...doesn't look like this coming spell is going to deliver does it? Time starting to run out now on another poor winter...before any peddles the "better than last winter" line at me, I'll respond by saying, not as wet or stormy sure, but it's still been a mild and pretty much snowless (for many) winter.
  12. This "cold spell" has in reality been pretty half arsed. Yes its been fairly cold, but nothing special whatsoever. Places at elevation in more Northern parts of the UK have done OK at times. For the rest of us, this winter (so far) can be summed up as distinctly underwhelming. Not one single PM shot has delivered anything remotely wintry, even in areas such as mine, which in many winters gone by have done very well indeed from Polar Maritime North Westerlies. This season's versions have been watery let downs, following on from ridiculously mild warm sectors. When I read posts in the Model thread about a return to alternating PM/TM weather, I find it hard to suppress a dismissive tut. Sure its not as poor as last year's joke of a winter, but its still been a poor one for most. Yes there is still February and its statistically the coldest month...and all that, but its impossible to ignore the fact that the clock is ticking....and time is starting to run out for genuine cold weather opportunities, especially the further south in the UK one lives.
  13. Time to stop giving that scaremongering b'stard Rao the oxygen of publicity.
  14. Depends upon your definition of better I suppose. Last "winter" scored a zero out of 10 and fully deserved it....this one as of up to today gets a 1 out of 10...soooo, in the absolute broadest possible sense you could say this one has been .utter crap but not as crap as last year. Calling it any different would be akin to polishing a turd.
  15. The majority of us haven't seen a decent PM shot yet. Sure they've delivered at elevation in the North of the UK but have failed to deliver anything other than rain showers for the rest of us. This has been especially disappointing because I have witnessed numerous Cheshire Gap snow shower trains in previous winters from PM shots. This one has failed abjectly so far with its literally watered down efforts. Saw quite enough of that kind of "fun and games" last year thank you. Such weather ceased to interest me once it began to impact on my finances (replacing fence panels - repeatedly...as well as ridge tiles.
  16. I'm not going to write winter off.. I am going to say though, this winter ( approaching halfway through) has been pretty rubbish, one slushy snowfall on Boxing Day apart and a few frosts. First half of January looks a bust. And if what Gibby says is right, then we are pretty much stuck with zonal for the foreseeable. I was pulled up for suggesting a week ago, that once zonal conditions set in, we could lose a fair chunk of winter as a result. Starting to look a reasonable likelihood doesn't it? As a fan of cold, snowy conditions I take no pleasure or satisfaction from saying that. It takes a bit more than being shown Jam tomorrow charts at t+300 to convince me that at least the first half of this month will be anything other than a bust.
  17. Cant answer that question, but the deep lows in February 2014 certainly did not track to the North West, they plowed straight into the UK. Here is just one example :
  18. We can chuck the first half of January in the bin yes? That Azores high (the fat slug) just does not want to move........watch it hightail away when we actually want it around though!
  19. Rain has turned to sleet. Temp 2.3c and falling.
  20. Couple of weeks? When we get locked into a zonal spell it's 4 weeks minimum...6 if we are really unlucky...by then you're mid February and most of the winter gone..oh dear.
  21. Thats a winter eater chart right there. Only consolation is GFS is renowned for wanting to flatten things overly quickly, almost like a default setting with that model.
  22. Hope and pray that GFS Storm doesn't come off. Besides the severe gales/storm force winds, it looks like delivering an absolute deluge of rain for most. Sorry but what use is a bit of back edge wet snow after that?
