  1. 5.5C. Bright with a few glimpses of sunshine.
  2. Oh I wish you were right. It may probably scrape 10c in western areas but single figures looks likely for most parts. Given light winds it shouldnt feel too bad providing we dont get a raw easterly bringing yet more cloudy muck off the north sea.
  3. I wouldnt be so sure just yet as winter may still have a sting in its tail towards the end of next week, but as for being severe, i think not. Totally agree about the lighter nights though. Theres a full 2hrs more daylight in the evening than there was 2 months ago.
  4. This February will surely go down as one of the worst months i can ever remember. Theres been absolutely no let up in the doom and gloom that has persisted since mid January and temperatures have been constantly stuck at 4s and 5s throughout the whole month. It was great to record 7c today as it was a welcome change from the constant cold drearyness that we've had to endure. It hasnt even been a particularly dry month either which you would expect with cold winter months as opposed to mild ones so i'm struggling to find any positive for the entire month.
  5. 6.3c 71-00 5.7c 61-90 A cold unsettled first week. Becoming more settled and gradually warming up in the middle. Staying mild and unsettled for the final weeks. Maybe a brief easterly later on. 6.7c sounds about right.
  6. Lovely GFS in FI. Nobody can deny that would be a great start to Spring. Warm days and cool nights. Hopefully the models will keep the idea of high pressure moving east over the UK in around 8- 10 days time.
  7. I love spring. For me it means the emergence of fresh new growth, the rapidly lenghening days and the first chance to get outside and do things that havent been possible over the winter. It isnt quite the time for summer heat but it almost feels like it after months of cold, more so this year i feel. By the end of summer i sence an air of decay about everything. The leaves are starting to turn, the wasps are out and i find myself wishing it was Spring again. Its such a lovely fresh and clean time of the year.
  8. However in FI its not exactly looking wintry, and the models have been pretty certain of that for some days now. Its a case of will the transition to milder conditions keep getting put back further and further.
  9. I must admit being out and about today in temperatures barely nudging 5c it did feel fairly nice and not as cold and raw as it has felt at times this winter. I have detected a real sense of early spring lately, despite the low temperatures.
  10. Today almost felt like spring. However only when the sun was out and there was no wind at all. I thought if it can feel quite nice, albeit momentarily, at 5.5c. just think how nice it will feel at 15.5c. One think i've noticed of late is how much brighter the sun is and how its beginning to feel that bit warmer when youre exposed to it. Hard to believe it'll be the Spring Equinox in just over a month. Back to reality though and were forecast just 2c and sleet tomorrow. Another horrendously drab and depressing day to come
  11. I'm longing for warmth so much that i'd even take it if it was accompanied by wind and rain. A warm settled spell would be excellent but at the moment i dont care how we get something milder as long as we get it. Tentative signs of things warming up a touch as we go into March. As they should i suppose.
  12. One thing that characterised last summer was the strength of the wind, particularly in August which took the edge off the temperatures quite significantly. We had probably 4/5 very warm/hot days in August and September but each time they were accompanied by a strong southerly wind which did make for a very pleasant day but starved us of the real heat that we had in summers gone by. The maximum temperature here last summer was a rather disappointing 25.6c so i'm hoping to nudge 30c this summer, a very rare occurrence given i live so near the coast.
  13. Considering an Autumn Winter thread was started in eary July i think one is well overdue. After all it will be March in under 3 weeks  I'm predicting a summer which will continue the gradual improving trend since 2007, so it will be slightly better than last year although as has been said there is much doubt over whether last summer can be classed as another washout or actually quite a decent one. I think were really overdue a good July. The past 3 have been reallly poor and although July 2008 saw the only meaningful hot spell of the summer the rest of the month was mostly cool and unsettled.
  14. Sometimes in the midst of a cold period like this you forget how potentially close we are to temperatures approaching 20c. Even the mid teens with very little wind can feel like a pleasant summers day. A march of endless easterlies and North sea mist and murk would be an absolute nightmare and i just have a hunch that we may be kept waiting a little longer this spring for the warmth to return. Just because on the whole the past 2 decades have brought us some very good Springs indeed, notably 1995, 1997 and 2007 and last year i suppose, and so a cooler, wetter spring must be imminent. But i suppose you could say that we had ones back in 2006 and 2008, except May, which were on the cool side.
  15. I generally despise long cold periods in winter so a March similar to 1996 would be just horrible, thinking that we should be recording double figures more often than not but stuck at 3s and 4s throughout the whole month. Spring 2007 as a whole wasnt that special but it was that glorious April that i would love to experience again. March wasnt that bad either. I'm so looking forward to spring though and the first waft of warm air on a light SW breeze or the first brisk westerly bringing bright sunshine and beefy showers. I also look forward to the ground firming up during a long dry period as it means getting back to outdoor activities that have been out of bounds since late Autumn. Winter lost its appeal for me after the first snowfall back in December and after then its been unrelenting cold. If it hasnt been cold its been still on the cool side so an early spell of spring warmth in March would be welcomed even more than in previous years.
  16. You've just summed up my perfect Spring/Summer too. A repeat of Spring last year would be great, followed by a summer like 2003 or 2006. Fairly simple really.
  17. A repeat of February 2008 would be great but with some snow at the beginning of the month. March again should be calm and sunny with cold frosty nights leading to pleasantly warm days. I'd also like a week or two of brisk westerlies bringing some beefy showers towards the end of the month and into April.
  18. Blimey, this threads a bit early with 10 day to go till Janurary. Still, worth a punt at this stage so i'll have 4.4c.
  19. And since then we've seen 17 months with a CET of 2c above average including 4 out of the last 13 Februarys.
  20. The day started off with clear blue skies but with increasing cloud as the day wore on. In the sun it felt very nice. Max temp 16.3c. If its the same tomorrow my shorts might be reappearing sooner than i'd expected.
  21. We had a few blasts of the heating a for a couple of evenings recently but its not the time yet to have it on every day. I'm still using my summer duvet so its still not that cold as we have avoided the slight frosts of late.
  22. It became very muggy and humid around midday with a max of 19.8c. Some light to moderate rain early on followed by a drier interlude before the dark clouds gathered. Some really quite heavy rain now. Looking forward to waking up to a lovely crisp and sunny morning tomorrow.
  23. 2006 heatwave in July. Days on end i would wake up to clear blue skies with the promise of temperatures into the mid to high 20s. 2003 heatwave in August The dry and warm Spring of 2007 with April 14th/15th sticking in my mind as gorgeously warm and sunny. June 2007 floods which affected this area badly. I doubt i will ever see anything like it again in my lifetime. Freezing fog of December 2006 The 2000s have certainly not been the decade for snow round these parts with no single event standing out above the rest. However winters earlier on in the decade were much better in terms of snow. Easter snow 2008 not for the amount but the fact that it was so late in the season and a few days later the daffodills were out.
