  1. August has been quite reasonable here for the past 2 years so it is more than capable of producing something resembling high summer i.e along the lines of 1995,2003. It just seems that the Atlantic has been quite dominant in recent years thus limiting the opportunity for the full potential for August to be realised.
  2. Suppose a cool August after a warm June and July is nothing new. It happened several times in the first half of the 20th Century. http://www.personal.dundee.ac.uk/~taharley/centralengav_temperat.htm
  3. Some hope being offered by the ECM 12z that we might see high pressure coming more into play disrupting the advance of low pressure. Nothing prolonged but some nicer warm and dry days are being indicated by both the GFS and ECM before the month is out. the ensemble mean somewhat indicating a north south split emerging to end the month. Warm conditions would return to the southern half of the UK if it were correct.
  4. Yes its a bitter pill to swallow but i think you could be correct. I was listening enviously to a guy at work yesterday who swans off to SE Asia just as the clocks go back so he can skip that long drawn out period up until Christmas. Oh how i wish i could do that too. I do think that people have been lulled into the false belief that Autumn is already here. September is not much cooler than June and although the days are shorter we can still see some pleasant summerlike conditions.
  5. Signs emerging that BH Monday could be half decent with rain moving into western areas but not reaching the east till late in the day. Sunday looks the best day in the reliable time frame with some warm sunshine but temps still a touch below average. Next week sees unsettled conditions returning but at least temperatures both day and night will be recovering.
  6. Another nothing sort of day. Cloudy skies, temperatures in the mid teens. Just rubbish.
  7. There looks to be a steady rise in temperatures over the next 10 days as we finally say goodbye to this northerly. But it will be taken over by a more Atlantic driven set up. But temperatures should recover back to nearer average associated with the change in wind direction.
  8. Given how this week was built up to be quite nice by a certain cold loving forumer i was hoping for something decent. But imo northerlies are overrated for their sunshine producing capabilities. We have seen very little of it and temperatures have really struggled. This August is fast becoming a nothing sort of month that will be quickly forgotten, much like August 2010 and 2011.
  9. Very little, if any sunshine today and cool out in the breeze. When i was out in it earlier i thought it felt alright, by that i mean not really chilly. But then i reminded myself that it is still August and there should be a feeling of warmth when im out and about. Heat can still be a feature at this time of year so its a shame that we are experiencing conditions more suitable to late September. Rather disappointing.
  10. Not selling it im afraid. Wheres my shorts wearing weather, my evenings warm enough to sit out, my above average temperatures But winds should drop light later on in the week so it should feel like summer in early afternoon when the sun is at its highest and temperatures are at their peak.
  11. I was near Newark on Trent. Was warm enough in the tent but i was hoping to light the bbq and have a few pints sat outside but wasnt nice enough. But as you say theres always a pub close by.
  12. I was camping over the weekend. Was too chilly to have a bbq last night and sit outside. Not what i would expect from summer
  13. Well it may float some peoples boats but the outlook is as dull as dishwater, completely devoid of any interest whatsoever. Thank goodness that the Spring and Summer have been nice up until now or i would be suffering from a lack of warmth and sunshine.
  14. This week hasnt been too bad actually. Hopefully the final week of the month will show an improvement over next week which doesnt look good at all!
  15. ECM 12z mean more keen on a cooler push of northerlies early next week before pressure builds later on.
  16. The chance of something warmer pushing into southern england for a time early next week as shown on the GEFS mean. But it will be accompanied by generally unsettled conditions. Saturday not looking too bad the further south you go. A chance for getting out and about enjoying some pleasant average summer temperatures.
  17. I would like to know the last summer that had all 3 months drier and warmer than average. Bet it doesnt happen very often so the chances of August following on from the good summer so far are actually quite small. 2/3 good summer months aint bad i suppose. July is the main summer month for me and it was superb.
  18. I want to get to the beach before the summer is out. And i mean being able to wear shorts and tshirt and it be warm enough to sit comfortably on the beach and go in the sea. Usually that requires about 21c or more in a light breeze. If high pressure manages to position itself favourably for the last third of the month then that might be possible.
  19. High pressure occurring in the wrong place can being below average temperatures at this time of year. If it sinks down from the north it will be bringing with it a cool air mass, which will require an input of warmth to raise temperatures. A warm front off the Atlantic over the top of the high would return temperatures to above average, as would a southeasterly dragging warm air into the mix although this tends to take a while longer to raise temperatures.
  20. Looks like i picked a reasonable time to go camping next weekend with a ridge of high pressure building in.
  21. I was going to go camping there this month, good job i opted for the drier surroundings of the Lincolnshire/Nottinghamshire border instead.
  22. Oh ive seen it alright. But its been a dry and warm summer so far with nothing cool whatsoever, yet many posts do not seem to reflect that.
  23. Would tend to agree with you there. Its been mostly talk of the Atlantic reawakening in FI, or talk of an approaching unsettled spell. Pretty much since the start of June.
  24. In what has been a decent summer, the amount of space given over to talk of unsettled and cool in the MOD has been shocking.
