  1. It looks like some lucky locations did manage to get into double figures today. The south coast, North Wales, Lancashire, Cumbria and around Edinburgh were the favoured spots today. Its not unusual to see double figures in mid winter, but its the combination of light winds, sunshine and double figures that can bring that taste of early Spring round about this time of year.
  2. In the general public you will find a general dislike for rain. Take my workplace for example. On the approach to lunchtime you always get the usual comments 'will it stay dry?', 'has it stopped raining yet?' when folk are about to venture outside. It does determine what i do with my days off too. If its pouring down i will stay indoors, but if its dry and sunny id be more likely to go for a leisurely drive out or go on a walk. Id imagine the vast majority of people are like me. Thats why i crave warm and sunny summers so much.
  3. A fairly pleasant outlook to come, one that is pleasing to me thats for sure. a couple of mild sectors set to cross the country in the next 10 days and temps look like staying on the positive side of average throughout.
  4. Temperatures rising into double figures under high pressure. In any sunny spells it would feel rather pleasant.
  5. A cool and blustery day in Mid August would be described as Autumnal, and ive heard a deep low in summer being described as Autumnal many times. Hence Springlike is an appropriate term to use in Winter. It wouldnt describe the conditions here today though. Thoroughly cold damp and miserable.
  6. The GFS has the first indications of Spring around the corner in the high res section. Upper temps over most of Europe rising to above 0c under high pressure and some nice looking temps appearing in France. Up to 16c in the Bordeaux area.
  7. Very poor temps over in the NW i see. Over here its positively balmy. Bridlington on the North Sea Coast is at 9c and Lincs FM even commented on how springlike it was looking out the window so it cant be just me thats noticed. Its a relief to get rid of that awful nagging chill and replace it with much softer feeling air but still coolish.
  8. Winter is lingering around like a bad stench now. I cant wait till it makes way for Spring and the associates sights and smells that it brings. One being the smell of the first freshly cut grass of the season.
  9. Good support from the GEFS 12z mean for a settled spell incoming. in 2 weeks time we still have this
  10. At night yes, but temps look to be going in an upwards direction only slightly. GFS has 5s and 6s in my area for the weekend which will do at this time of year.
  11. Im looking forward to the upcoming settled spell as it looks to be bringing some slightly warmer temperatures with it. Cold and grey just doesnt cut it with me. Slightly warmer and grey will do at this time of year as it will be less uncomfortable when out and about. But with the changing position of the upcoming high im hopeful for some glimpses of sunshine too.
  12. Its one thing finally getting to March 1st but its another thing entirely getting the weather to warm up. But least the days get longer and light levels increase regardless.
  13. The 6z ensemble mean has the high right over us on Sunday. So cold grey easterlies lasting till mid Feb is unlikely.
  14. wow, thats quite incredible to see daffs so early. On my travels round East Yorkshire i have seen some close to flowering however i dont wish to see them flowering too early though. I dont like to see them hanging limp after a hard late winter/early Spring frost.
  15. It was frustrating spring and summer for this area last year come to mention it. Due to those neverending hideous easterlies. I guess i was speaking for the country as a whole. I recall as a kid flicking through ceefax to page 418 (i think) to see when the first sun index of 2 appeared!
  16. Good Spring and summer combinations do happen thought as last year showed. Okay August was pretty poor but id say 2/3 decent months makes a good summer. I dont crave a warm and sunny spring as much as i do a hot and sunny summer. Spring should have enough rain to top up the reservoirs in time for a baking hot summer... in an ideal world
  17. I second that. I thought April 2007 was incredible but 2011 just smashed the record once again. I recall April 14th 2007 quite vividly. Cycling down to the banks of the Humber Estuary, blazing sunshine and not a breath of wind. It could have been July.
  18. Those sort of days should start to feature more and more now as the suns strength increases. Also,There is always that day in early Spring that teases us into thinking its warm enough to wear shorts or go out in a tshirt only for it to turn out not as warm as you first thought.
  19. Mild/Warm spells have been fairly common in recent years, with the exception of the freezing cold March 2013. With any luck we will get a taste of Spring in Feb this year too.
  20. They tend to deliver the goods for this part of the country, 22nd December 2003 springs to mind. However just a slight change in wind direction makes all the difference between snow showers being driven inland, or just clipping East Anglia.
  21. Dare i say it even felt just a tad like Spring today around midday. There was just something Springlike about the light and the dry roads made it look like Spring too. The roads in winter are often damp regardless of the weather due to fog and frost. I also went in town in just an unzipped hoody, but it soon became cold later on. Looking at the max temps today shows cold for most but a little area of 6s and 7s over east Yorkshire.
  22. I bought a tent and got into camping too late last year. By August the true light evenings had passed, but this year i cant wait to enjoy maximum daylight from roughly late May to late July. Sat outside on a warm evening with a beer, good times not too far away.
  23. You know Spring is just around the corner when a Spring discussion opens on netweather lol. In a lot of respects i prefer Spring to Summer, with my liking for the season increasing as time passes. I love the fresh growth of May and especially the woodlands with a carpet of bluebells catching the sun until the canopy fully closes for the summer. Therefore some nice Spring warmth is preferable to enable me to go on walks in the countryside.
  24. Some springlike temps on the gfs 0z in 9 days time. This would get the snowdrops flowering. I am resigned to the fact that next week will bring very little in the way of snow here but the lighter winds will be most welcome.
