  1. too expensive ! , and the heating makes a noise, if the house gets up to a good temp during the evening a well insulated house should keep in the comfort zone whilst you are tucked up in bed until the very early hours at least
  2. I still cant believe anyone would sit in a room at minus 10 , watch tv, listen to music , on the pc, or whatever you do, in normal indoor clothes , just not having it , you would not last long, you would have to keep up vigourous activity, hypothermia anyone? even +10 would be uncomfortable to me indoors, and being wrapped up with heavy layers and a hat on indoors in minus 10, what would be the point of that , , I like to feel free in light clothing
  3. Fair enough, I did read the post with the email reply from the met office on why they think the period december through to febuary will be on the milder side of average, it went into some depth, and admittedly a little over head at times, and they are sticking to it, despite other signals being contrary, Their prediction of a milder than average december is already on dodgy ground, and their previous track record is not exactly accurate. Of course the whole period could still be in the slighty above catagory despite a cold december.......we shall see
  4. I certainly have more faith in this outcome than the met office mild bias for their LRF up to february
  5. I was talking about the season as a whole, a cold winter will kill many more than a mild one, even if its a stormy one like last year
  6. Cold snowy winters cause more deaths than storms, this is a fact there was a news report recently that showed thousands of lives were saved last year due to the mildness , mainly the elderly off course Bring the storms on
  7. I want to marry you, sorry joking, but i too want a stormy winter, does not look good though
  8. wouldn't take much notice, they were way out last year too, and before that , dont forget that 2012 'barbecue' summer.
  9. amazing, i want to be in a storm like this, from a safe location of course
  10. i did a couple of trips to the coast and saw the force of what a tidal surge can do, spreading right across the prom and into side roads, quite a sight and a bit unnerving, the waves were impressive, and like I said when i squall came through we had to crouch for our own safety, and the hail was insane. I agree locally the storms where mainly just branch swayers , apart from the one that the met issued a red warning, that was pretty wild here, a few trees down and I saw two power flashes in the sky from damaged overhead wires. was definatly not lightning this year so far zzzzzzzzzzzzz, I do like the bright crisp days now and again, but in general stagnant cold weather and frost is not my thing
  11. Exciting stuff, I had a trip to Blackpool and had to crouch when a swirling squall swept through off the sea. it was AMAZING, this year is boring me to death, I know most on here just want cold, and are relishing the charts that look like bringing just cold boring nothingness days , I want last year back , it was an excellent spell of interest for me , anybody agree, or am I a lone wolf
  12. Ok I will wait to the forecast end period for the gloating ,Febuary, although they might....just might , be right this time
  13. Looking forward to bashing the met office at the end of Jan when this LRF goes pear shaped yet again for them, will they ever learn. If they dont know for sure they should shut up, and stick with their more reliable short term forecasts.
  14. last year was months of snow or 100 days of snow 'shocker' I think after these silly headlines a cold/frosty possibly drier than average winter is more likely then
  15. What nonsense http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/uk-weather-heavy-rain-and-strong-gales-expected-in-wettest-winter-since-1981-9863585.html
  16. seems to be the usual places again southern coasts , cardiff area etc
  17. exactly , I sing from the same sheet as you, a mild winter would suit me fine, but we do need a little bit of well below sub zero now and again to keep pests and insects at bay etc, even though its a bit of an inconvenience scraping and di icing the car in the dark before setting off for work, last winter was a dream, it was just jump in and drive off without all that faff of de icing I suspect even the staunch coldies warm up their house and wear clothes to ward off the nasty cold, then again I love torrential rain and thunderstorms, but would not want it raining in the house !
  18. some really dark shower clouds just gome through with very gusty wind, looked like it could have been thundery, with that dark greyish/green hue with distinctive rain curtains , not electrical though
  19. whats all the fuss about again ? just a twig twitcher here not expecting it to get any more violent than that in our boring micro climate
  20. last time i had thunder was in July, its galling to hear the same places places getting potent multiple storms day after day after day after day ! and while I am in the mood for a moan, why do the shower clouds in the Irish sea always seem to get electrified in the early hours ? , say 400am ish, when we are alseep , there was display of cloud top lighting the past couple of nights, but if I had stayed awake it probably would not happen, needless to say, i am not staying up and missing sleep just in case of a few distant flashes, ok rant over !
  21. nothing here again, some places have had a tremendously good year for thunder in 2014, i believe the higher SST and mild winter is a big factor, despite this only a couple of storms here, maybe we have just been unlucky this year , its been 'tremendously' bad for us
  22. the manchester area is the no mans land for interesting weather , unless you like occasional moderate drizzle, this year has been a joke for thunder, when the north gets it its always out to the west over wales or the irish sea or its way east over yorkshire, hardly ever here last night was yet another example of this area killing thundery activity, active storm over n wales and mersyside just died to nothing as it got within 15 miles of here, least i got to see a few distant flashes before it got killed by the local shield
  23. when the sky was clear earlier I saw distant flashes from the N wales storm, it must be at least 60 or 70 miles away , since its clouded up here I see nothing now ,
