  1. Context.... these are the list of suitable reasons to not attend a family event.
  2. I'm banking on him being stupid enough to get nominated for the Darwin awards.... I'll even stop playing the lottery if it will increase the odds.... The only possible reason for such a ridiculously large number of good celebrities being taken in 2016 has to be so one very very bad one can be taken without tipping the balance.....
  3. Fingers crossed for Blizzard, Earthquake, Tidal Wave or Nuclear Explosion.....
  4. Yeah so.... I don't want to be a party pooper.... but...... no thanks...... -10 is my limit!
  5. I still remember the panic when London got snow and the busses stopped and the tube stopped and everyone was wondering how they were going to get home - and the news was covering the whole thing live and we were sat going..... but...... but...... you can still see the white lines on the road through the sprinkling of snow...... I mean seriously you would of thought Aliens had just invaded or something the way they carried on!
  6. Yes the end of the run is certainly eye watering - not a chance that it will come off - not when it's forecasting -16.....
  7. Looking at the number of members going for -10 850s after the brief cold spell - I'd say they might be on to something..... GEFS last 4 runs. For info - I think this was the documentary - http://www.channel4.com/info/press/programme-information/human-swarm
  8. Calor arrived yesterday so - that's fine it can snow away. (PS - saw a documentary a few years back about how the supermarkets rely on longer range weather forecasts to ensure they are stocking the right things, and one of the snippets of information that came out - is that when there is going to be a cold spell - they drop the price of soup to 50p a tin about 2 weeks in advance. Guess what happened yesterday........ And while it does seem like an urban myth - since I saw that documentary I've kept a close eye on tins of soup and can confirm that between 1-2 weeks before a cold spell - the tins of Heinz soup do indeed drop to 50p a tin)
  9. We should all just pretend we have snow anyway and post pictures of snow we had years ago to the thread...... and then when Cheggers is mobile again - we can claim it all melted away.... (and if we need an excuse - it'll be because huge chunks of WeatherToolV2 don't work or point to links that no longer exist)
  10. I like cold as much as the next man - but 0F is taking a bit too far - I'm happy around -5C thanks very much.
  11. Not weather related - but 2016 claimed Carrie Fisher.
  12. Yeah we do sometimes get Met Office warnings for Fog - because the screensaver I wrote broke one year and it took me ages to figure out that it was because I hadn't included an image for Fog which was the current Met Office warning that was causing the problem. (Not long after it broke again when they decided to issue warnings for multiple weather conditions in the same warning instead of separate warnings like they used to - commonly "Snow & Ice")
  13. We currently have the odd flake falling every now and then out of a bright blue sky with sunshine.....
  14. We had some snow here, I was worried what would happen - but I tweeted about it anyway, and it promptly stopped. Sky is now bright and I'm almost sure I can see bits of blue sky.
  15. The weather app on my phone claims we'll have sleet from 1am and then possibly snow from about 4am.... PS: I've learnt from experience - that as soon as you tell other people about snow in marginal events - it has a tendency to stop, but if you are really selfish and don't tell anyone - it can go on for hours......
  16. http://www.aviationweather.gov/adds/metars/index?submit=1&station_ids=EGPF&chk_metars=on&hoursStr=2&chk_tafs=on&std_trans=translated https://www.wunderground.com/history/airport/EGPF/2016/12/25/DailyHistory.html?req_city=Bishopton&req_statename=United Kingdom&reqdb.zip=00000&reqdb.magic=107&reqdb.wmo=03140 Are a few places - I assume the bookies use METAR reports to determine if it officially snowed or not....
  17. Oh.... Did you start writing story lines for Eastenders then?
  18. I can see that backfiring spectacularly: "Oh look it's just the war, get the candles out and we'll have a sing song" At least with power you can semi ignore people with the TV......
  19. Just popped out to go visiting - and discovered we needed coats and umbrellas! Max 11.9, Min 7.8. Cur: 9.4 and only 1mm of rain - but as usual, if it's very windy - rain doesn't land in the rain bucket lol Max gust recorded is 67 but I suspect it's a spike - majority of gusts sitting around 48mph Edit: Actually the rain brought rather a temperature drop - down to 7.5 now.
  20. Happy Christmas everyone from BordersWeather!
  21. Looks like #StormConnor became official..... http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/news/releases/2016/christmas-and-boxing-day
  22. I have no idea what is going on at this point The Met Office has our part of the Borders covered by a warning today - the NetWeather HiRes NMM says it's going to be most windy around midday and then tails off a little bit. The Met Office then has decided tomorrow isn't going to be too bad and the warning does not extend to our part of the Borders - but the NetWeather HiRes NMM has equally as string winds tomorrow morning for us as it does for midday today, and those wind speeds extend right through the night. So at this point - I don't know if the HiRes NMM is going to be correct or the Met Office (but the Met Office have been guilty in the past of issuing a warning for one period and then not for another which is much windier and potentially more damaging than the period they did issue a warning for so........) @CatchMyDrift any thoughts for our area? This is the wind during the warning period: and outside the warning period: and right through Christmas Eve:
  23. On this day in 2009.... (I'll you you guess where - if it's going to snow anywhere in the Borders - it will snow here)
  24. Definitely lightning being detected - looks like we have a participant near Fort William who must be having great fun this morning.
