  1. Temp - 0.9 up from -1.1 for the last few hours Dew -0.9 havent checked that for a while but it was alot lower this morn Just been out very light ppn very small very wet flakes, if and its a big if it intensified it would be snow here, if the temp doesnt keep creeping up. there is an icy snowy covering on some surfaces
  2. I hope your right, and there have been times ppn has popped up and I really havent seen it coming...im just not convinced
  3. Yes but look how much ppn has just passed, that gave a dusting and look significantly more than whats to come, dont get me wrong im happy any snow here is great, but It looks pretty clear we have had more than is to come.
  4. I really hope to have to apologise this for this later but....... i think some of you are a bit deluded, never mind what the charts say, look at whats happening, its not unfolding as forecast and there isnt much of sign of much more ppn, certainly not heavy ppn.
  5. You may well be right...I just think there are times to listen to the forecast and times to trust what you see......the main front you talk of is going to have to pop up out of nowhere....
  6. I hope your right, but looking at the radar compared to the forecast they dont match, so when it was forecast for is sort of irelivant now
  7. Yep I thought the shame, what a shame, one of the very rare times its not rain......and it moves much further than forecast......
  8. Thats what I thought, sometimes the radar doesnt do what you expect, but it certainly looks like there wont be too much more here
  9. wow snow in Preston, very rare! From the radar looks like there wont be to much more, or am i missing an expected wind change or something else that will keep it coming?
  10. Who (other than perhaps Feb1991blizzard) is being despondent....people keep saying this...I dont see it, I see ppl saying its not as a good a run as a few days ago.....but thats just a fact.
  11. ...and just to add, when someone in the mod thread points out a model 'downgrade' of the cold, they are not getting depressed, or suicidal, they are commenting on what they see in the models..... Several posts today and last night start with things like...the mood in here is awful or similar........ no you have read some posts you dont like and your mood is awful..... There is another just now....'peeps are panicking' are they really ... panicking..... or are they discussing the models.... and another 'what an over reaction' ...... by who? Everyone STOP having a go at any post that doesnt predict 2010!
  12. Mod thread is very frustrating as usual, have a look at how many posters are slagging of any negative posts about the upcoming cold spell, using very sensible points such as, 'lots can change' 'its only a couple of runs' the very true 'computers dont dictate the weather' and the equally true how can an event that hasnt happened be downgraded'. All good points if it wasnt for the fact the very same people get hyperbolic about any model run that shows decent cold. Now i dont know what will happen re. the cold spell, nobody does, but here are the facts, 36 hrs ago ish there was fairly good agreement for deep cold to get to the UK and it looked like it could get last, now that longevity is much less certain and the depth of cold reduced. People are allowed to feel a bit downbeat about that. Caution should always be applied to any forecast or model run, but if you are allowed to get exited and positive about a good chart, why are others not allowed to be a bit negative and downbeat about a less good chart. Just because we will get some colder weather next week doesnt mean people arent allowed to be a disappointed that it isnt as cold as they had hoped. If someone told you they might give you £10,000 next week, but then only gave you £100, youre still a £100 up but may feel a bit disappointed.
  13. Has the winter been that bad? Ive had a fair few hard frosts, a bit of snow........id say that was an average winter, I mean its no 2010, but for this part of the world a winter with no snow and hardly a fros is not uncommon, so this cant be an awful winter, can it? Last week or so very very dull though
  14. From a weather enthusiasts point of view, I could see how you would say its boring....but from someone who spends most of their time outside....superb...blue skies, no wind, beautiful frosty mornings, cold nights....I love it! apart from t the fact I have 70 odd biggish to tress to plant, with various groups of volunteers and the grounds frozen solid...sorting that out is getting to take some rearranging!
  15. Wont make it this far will it? Id be interested if I lived in Cumbria though. i cant remember seeing a band of ppn appearing out of nowhere like that?
  16. Thats my favourite post of this winter! (ill ignore the fact that me and my dog win really )
  17. I think its safe to say if you get under a heavy shower it will be snow and will settle, how long it lasts, and as Hotcuppa said, where the showers go is another thing.
  18. would be unusual for it to snow in Preston and Blackpool and not for you too
  19. bizarre isnt it, I mean its normal for leyland and chorly to get it and not us, despite te only being a few miles away.....but Blackpool and Southport are reporting snow and not us....thats a coastal town to our north and another to the south but none here??? EDIT snowing here now....right for everyone else it should just be a case of how much ppn there is.....marginality is not an issue if its snowing here.
  20. because the science of meteorology is not advanced enough to predict snow to the mile. Plus the meto dont have unlimited resources to assess every single location. However if you read the guidance with the warning it talks about how certain they are about the warning. Every snow warning this winter has been described as uncertain. Plus they even have a risk matrix to look at...this last warning had an X in the low certainty box. You seem to have interpreted that as meto saying you are going to get snow, despite knowing the history of your location. Read the warnings properly and stop slagging the meto office because like me you live in a crap place for snow....its not their fault.
  21. Im sorry but thats just wrong, you need to use your common sense, every single warning from the met office, every bit of text about snow in our region this winter has mentioned marginality, has talked about higher chances away from the coast and higher ground. You know where you live, just like me snow is unlikey....when the meto office seem unsure you need to learn to lower your expectations.
  22. oh come on they have been pretty good this winter.....unless your looking at the little graphics, then you are asking for trouble.
  23. Yes...been an interesting day watching this develop.......but I think when the snow reports came from Ireland...that was the end for anyone this side of the M6 edit ...rain reports...you know what i meant
  24. snow here very light covering on cars edit. as shown above nicely by sal007
