  1. If only a nice high would develop to the east of the UK, we would be in business...
  2. Feel free to close this if it happens often, but looking GFS FI, it shows the 15C line for 850s incredibly far north: Is this rare?!
  3. Yeah I know but it'll be cool to see what happens around the country. Possibly the most intense thunderstorms for years.
  4. Best chart of the summer so far in my opinion, BANK!
  5. I hate that people are calling the last few summers "average". The only reason the months CET's were quite close to normal is thanks to the incessant cloud cover at night which generally kept the temperatures up. Mean max's have often been well below average in the past 5 summers, this month is no exception and probably one of the most dire!
  6. Yesterday was the best day of the month so far. 20C and unbroken sunshine for most of the day. That's the highest temperature recorded so far this month which is disappointing and becomes even more remarkable when I mention that I think we recorded a high max in March. That's gotta be a record?! Despite the rain and thick cloud today, it was 17C and felt very sticky thanks to the sky-high humidity!
  7. And that was the first half of our summer. And keeping in with the pattern from the last five years, the second half of Summer will come in the form of another intense heatwave late-September () when it's becoming too late to appreciate the warm evenings due to the lack of daylight.
  8. If September had been in Augusts' place, it would have been more remarkable since the heat returned in a big way during September which came to a shock to most people around here!
  9. The cloud has been so thick and persistent all day that it seriously looked and felt like mid-Autumn... But yeah, I tend to notice in late-August. I remember that massive heatwave last year, late-September/early-October; it was reaching 26-29C countrywide but on like 11-12 hours of sunshine, sunset at like 1915 I think? was pretty incredible
  10. I guess I was getting carried away a bit. But the light winds and lack of frontal rain is what's getting me so excited. After temperatures of 13-15C most days for the last 3 weeks, temperatures of 19-22C will feel fantastic in the light winds. I do believe, under 850s of 7-8C, that parts of England could locally get up to the mid-20s however. The showers that could be triggered midweek next week could be thundery though, at least in the SE. But, as I've said myself, we need to get this weekend low out of the way before anything is certain.
  11. 18z looks good for next week. Light winds, sunshine and warm temperatures from Monday until Thursday. Keep your fingers crossed guys! Possibly a few scattered afternoon showers bubbling up, maybe even developing into thunderstorms. Tuesday onwards looks very summery! Low-mid twenties for England and maybe parts of Wales. Widespread high teens and maybe even locally into the low twenties for Scotland and Ireland. Certainly not a heatwave but it will feel glorious after weeks and weeks of rain. Of course, this is still FI since we need to get this ugly weekend low out of the way. I hope it happens though, we seriously deserve it.

  13. Still 19.4C here in Blackpool with a nice ESE breeze.
  14. Lovely day, up to 20C though it feels much warmer thanks to the very light Easterly winds! What a shame it's back to rain tomorrow, again!
  15. Looking forward to tomorrow, 19-20C should be reached quite widely, locally up to 22-23C! It's no heatwave - infact, it's only a little above average, but with relatively high humidity, light winds and lots of sunshine, it should feel very summery. Only one day of it though, I wish the Atlantic would give us a break...
  16. The Feb snow of '96 was amazing for NW England, was a huuuuge event in Blackpool!
  17. A huge high developing over much of the Atlantic has been shown in FI on loads of runs recently!
  18. Sounds rather spectacular does that, I hate how they seem to be so rare, especially nowadays!
  19. The lack of sunshine is truly astounding. And apart from the next three days, I don't see any real improvements... With temperatures only forecast to be like 14-17C, it's not like the sun will make much of a difference anyway.
  20. Agreed. I do like looking at them though as they always give me a little glimmer of hope. Generally though, you can expect the opposite of what they show lol
  21. Indeed it does, though that cold spell was quite notable in some parts for the temperatures though much more so for mainland Europe.
  22. Doesn't surprise me, the CETs for that area were massively above average in the summers of 2010 and 2011 and it seems that 2012 will be no different, at least for June. Didn't some places record like 10C+ above average for one month (I forget which)?! As they bake in the sunshine with the very hot air imported from the Middle East, we drip with constant Atlantic low pressure systems...
  23. Hey guys, Does anyone have any charts and stories to share of some summer imported continental lows that have occured in the past, bringing hot and humid temperatures with some intense thunderstorms? On tonights 18Z (deep in FI, as you'd expect) such a chart can be seen and it got me thinking, it must have been a good while since we've had one in summer. We really need a change from these atlantic lows, I'm going crazy with boredom when it comes to our weather thanks to these last two and half weeks! We need something more interesting, I do wish this would happen! Thanks
