I'm getting the WMR80 - Oregon Scientific. Is it wrong to be so excited?! What are you all getting?
Just had a look at that one... Looks like a nice one!
Lets hope we all get a chance to test them all properly before the winters over!
-
Cool! What are you getting? I'm getting the WMR80.
Same model I had before the removal men trashed it! A Watson W-8681
I found it to be pretty good for the price.
Would love a Davis, but couldn't justify spending £700+!
-
haha and mine wow.
Plus turning to snow now finally.
Blimey... Everyone's getting new weather stations!... Which make/model did you get?
Which one did you get Khodds? (or have you gone to already?!)
-
oh well, nothing happening here. off to bed I go. hope my new weather station comes tomorrow, otherwise I shall be horribly depressed!
Spooky... My new weather station should be being delivered tomorrow too!
-
Well, I must admit, I'm almost at the point of calling it a non-event for here...
Radar shows dark pink for me, but it's peeing it down with rain outside... Can't even say it looks sleety...
Mullender, could you please bu**er off on a skiing holiday so that we can have some snow here! Cheers!
-
I shall go to bed then.
Finished that wine already?!?...
Radar says it's snowing outside... It wasn't 10 minutes ago... Will go and have another look in 10 minutes or so...
Oooo the suspense!
-
According to latest tweet from Ian F the colder air is literally a few miles to the East of here
Don't you love these "marginal" set-ups!!!
-
Well, good luck everyone!
I'll probably stay up until about 01:00... If it's not snowing by then, I think I may as well throw in the towel!
Just popped outside and it's raining currently, but sounds like the surrounding areas are starting to get the wintry stuff...
Hope it arrives here soon!
-
Just as the heavy stuff was about to hit here (according to the NW radar), it all turned to freezing rain!
Couldn't write this stuff!
-
So many toys have been thrown out of the pram that the Thames Barrier cannot stem the tide of displaced seawater.
LOL!
-
and a 93% chance of snow on Tuesday???????
What?... Seriously... OMG I haven't even looked past Friday yet!!!
Will check it out right away!
Edit: Checked... Wow!
Temperatures are now falling for next week too!
Saturday is now looking mega cold!...
Met Office max of 5ºc and min of 3ºc on Saturday...
NetWeather max of -2ºc and min of -9ºc on Saturday... Hmmmm...
-
Sorry, but I'm going to have to start RAMPING now after just seeing the NetWeather forecast for my area of Bristol...
Friday @ 03:00 - Moderate SNOW (0ºc)
Friday @ 06:00 - Heavy SNOW (1ºc)
Friday @ 09:00 - Moderate SNOW (1ºc)
Friday @ 12:00 - Moderate SNOW (1ºc)
Friday @ 15:00 - V. Light SNOW (1ºc)
Friday @ 18:00 - V. Light SNOW (-2ºc)
Ramp, ramp, ramp!
-
I'm off to bed in min but are we still due 5-10cm here?!
Im guesing with such an upbeat mood all is good for the westcountry...
Really have tried to not wind my self up too much with this one after last 2 but I really want to get my big ramp out now!
It's looking good at the moment Mullender!... Fingers crossed nothing changes in the next 24 hours (or if it does that it's an upgrade!)
-
It's possible to snow at 4C if the dp and other factors are low enough, but it wouldn't settle.
I suppose anything is possible, but I've not experienced snow with temps. that high... I take it the dew points and 850's would have to be pretty low though for that?...
-
Yes and another thing I've noticed is that the national weather has a 4C over us with snow falling on Friday - not at all possible.
Yeah, the temperature forecasts lately (on Met Office etc.) seem to be a wee bit "overcooked"!
Max. temp. in Bath today (Lansdown) was -1ºc...
Like you say, it can either be 4ºc and rain, or a few degrees lower with snow... Not 4ºc with snow!... Never known that before!
Oh my God... How quiet is the MOD thread?!...
-
I just want at least 1 snow day this winter and law of sod dictates that if it doesn't happen Friday it'll happen next week when I am off work and that would suck big time.
Right, night night all. See you all tomorrow for the madness that is snow ramping. Xx
Night!... See you tomorrow for the "lamp-post" shift!
-
...and don't even get me started on Emmerdale, will John really divorce Moira and run off with Chastity? Is Val really out for revenge?
My life sucks!
LOL No vino tonight but because Active weather dude has told me that I won't be going to work on Friday I am going to start drinking at 4pm tomorrow afternoon and start my half term early. If he is wrong...well he has the lives of 30 children in his hands.
Ha ha!... Sorry, can't offer advice on the Emmerdale front!
So you've already penciled-in a "snow-day" for Friday then?... That's what I like to see... Forward planning!
And just to think a few days ago you were telling me you didn't care much for the snow...
-
What a stressful day. Will it snow? Won't it snow? Who will be England manager? Will Harry get off? Will I go to work on Friday? Should I do the 40-1 bet on Beckham being the next manager? Will the snow turn to rain? Is spring really starting next week?
I am going to have an ulcer by April.
Are you worrying about things too much?... Have you been on the vino tonight?... Did reading your last post just make my night?...
I'm going for a "yes" on all 3 counts!
-
Halfway house - 2.5 celsius
Not such a quick thaw if that turns out to be the case! Fingers (and everything else) firmly crossed!
Surprised that NetWeather hasn't even issued a "Watch" yet for the Midlands / South West...
-
Met Office has max. temp. of 5ºc for me on Saturday... NetWeather has a max. temp. of 0ºc!
Hmmm, slight difference there!... I know which forecast I'm backing!!!
-
Ian F's forecast just now was pretty decent but the national one with Matt Taylor was OK but he did stress that main snow could be further east or west than he was currently showing.
Nowcast event for tom nite.
Nah, I trust Ian F more!
-
Dont think its going to stick around long! Rain still forecast for Saturday, plus milder air this weekend!
This wasnt forecast a couple of days ago, so take it as a nice suprise and enjoy what you do get for however long you get it! Its better than nothing after all!
Very true! I really hope the temps for the weekend are being overcooked though... Highly unlikely at such a short timeframe but we can but wish!
-
Well, the NAE is less keen on it finishing as rain in some parts now so it could be, but as ever more runs needed really, and probably just waiting to the actual time!
It starts of as rain though, so cant technically be called an all snow event still!
I wonder whether higher ground will get an all-snow event though...
It would also be nice if it stuck around for a day or two... Would be a bummer if it melted before Saturday!
-
Tonights NAE 18z run:
Interestingly, it keeps it as snow at midday Friday still across a good part of our region, albeit light snow!
Think this could be considered a slight upgrade compared to the 12z!
Looking good for Bristol and surrounding areas I would say...
Do you think this may stay as an "all-snow" event?...

Nice one Tom. I would have loved a Davis, but I wanted the one where the anemometer wasn't part of the ISS... Couldn't justify it! Just moved house, so lots of other things to spend money on first!
Maybe I'll upgrade in a few years (if we keep getting cold winters!).
