  1. Friend just got back from Goa where it was a lovely 37C. Sucks eh.

0.1C/-0.9C here. What a difference a few thousand miles make.

I'll swap 37°c and sunshine for a snowy ski resort any day!!!

    37°c??? That's insane!!!

"Oh whats that I smell cooking?... Oh it's me!"

    Well, it's past my bedtime!!!

Currently 1.0°c here with a DP of -1.4°c

    Night all!

  2. Do you think you are going to get anymore snow over the next few dayscc_confused.gif

Hopefully it will stay dry for us but i think not !!mega_shok.gif

    Dunno...

Wasn't expecting to see anything this morning, but did!...

We might see a little bit tomorrow morning, although Ian has said it's going to be places >150m ASL. I doubt there'll be any in Trowbridge, but might see some at work (about 210m ASL).

Then it looks like a nice load of rain for the rest of the week! Luvley jubbly! (not)

  3. It's Yamkin here from the SE Thread. Here we go, the WMC 12Z and it is still going for colder uppers by the end of this week :cold:

    Hi Yamkin!

Hmmm, that would be good, but what are the chances??

Mind you, like I said earlier, the GFS has been playing with the idea (on and off!) of it getting colder again by the weekend...

Interesting Model watching for the past few days 'ey?!?

  4. Will be interesting tomorrow to see what we get??!! - I'm guessing if the DP stays low enough - who knows. We could be in for a surprise.

Was interesting this morning, I left Frome about 6am and it was heavy rain all the way into Bristol (centre) - then we had maybe 30mins or so of constant snow (nothing heavy/settled etc) - but i was surprised.

And speaking with the missus it was also snowing in Frome for a while this morning as well - just wondering why it wasnt snowing at 6am - but it was mid morning??!!

    All the best :(

Yeah, I thought it was meant to turn back to rain, but it didn't (well, not in Bath at any rate!)...

I wonder if the cold air is putting up more of a fight, as the precipitation never made it very far North... It went over to the South East!...

    Was that meant to happen???

1.2c and cloudy here, don't expect to see any snow tomoro to be honest especialy as other half is making me go into south somerset at around 10am til late afternoon to see friends which live at 5m absl! lazy.gifhuh.gif

Any lower and you'll need paddles! :)

I don't know what time the rain/sleet/snow/graupel/hail is supposed to arrive in these parts tomorrow, so maybe you'll see a bit before you leave...?

  5. If I have learnt anything from a year of amateur weather watching it is to not set yourself up for a disappointment, expect rain and then anything else is a pleasant surprise. :D

    As was this morning!

Thought we had a 0% chance of snow, then looked out the window this morning to see it was snowing!...

Then we had a 30 minute blizzard at work! Nice!

Not expecting any more really (I think this morning was a fluke)!... But who knows :D

  6. I must say I was not expecting it to feel as cold as it is today! I can't access my station to see what it is at moment but i bet its close to the 0-1c mark. Computer probably crashed or sumin similar! rolleyes.gif

So question remains is there a chance that we could see some heavy snow tomorrow or will it be a cool rainy day?

I think if today is anything to go by we certainly could. Even this morning nothing but rain was forecast and most of us saw nothing but snow! drinks.gif Happy days.

Yep, a very good morning for those who enjoy seeing a bit of snow!

Just had a look at the latest NAE run... There's gonna be a fair bit of precip around for the South West from around 06:00 (12:00 for the Somerset/Wiltshire area).

Like you say, what will it be???... cc_confused.gif

Lets just hope we hang on to the cold air! good.gif

  7. Looking at radar the ppn stalled just south east of bristol (worst of it anyway) So wiltshire should get an interesting few hours and bath/somerset may get some moderate snow but bristol looks almost clear of the ppn now with it never really properly reaching us except for abit of light snow.

Look forward to see if this will afect the direction of the next low tomoro morning and if it will indeed be of snow again?

    Indeed! Here's hoping! drinks.gif

Bit of a blizzard here now! yahoo.gif

  8. Just had a thought...

The temp is dropping here with a biting NE wind.

Im wondering because if this LP is further SE that it was progged, Its bringing colder air south ( colder than should of been )

Maybe this coming heavy rain over the next day or so will fall as snow ( or at least will have a better chance to )

    Any thoughts?

I was wondering the same thing...

I was expecting a "rain only" event this morning in Trowbridge, but at 8:00 it was snowing!

Temperature and Dew Point was also dropping... Temp was down to 1.5°c when I left.

Here in Bath (at the top of Lansdown), it's 0.5°c and still snowing, but pretty light.

However, it is starting to stick on the grass.

If we can hang on to this cold air, like you say, maybe something tonight/tomorrow??? unknw.gif

  9. Yes just when we all start to lose hope it sparks our interest with a new chance! Yes there was talk of cold undercutting a fron on the western side towards the end of the week although thats along way off yet. crazy.gif

Yep, all this "Will it?", "Won't it?"... Changes every day (in fact, about 4 times a day!!)...

Well, early start tomorrow (again :help: ) so I'm off to bed...

Temp. here is currently 4.5°c with a DP of 3.0°c... Not much chance of seeing snow here!!!

Good luck for tomorrow... You seem to be in a good spot!

    TTFN

  10. Nothing falling out of the sky at all now, funny thing is I had thrown the towel in this evening and then while watching a dvd I heard it against window so i went outside for cigy to investigate and it turned from sleet to snow. I think we could see wet snow as the front tomoro moves east but probably won't settle.

I am looking out for tuesday as its my day off and I can stay up on mendip to keep an eye on it. dry.gif

    Spookey!

The NAE has had a patch of snow showing over parts of the South West for the last couple of runs now, so maybe???...

I keep seeing "hints" that it may actually turn colder again towards the end of the week... Long way off though!

  11. Its snowing!! yahoo.gif

Very wet and not settling though. interesting thing is it isnt even very heavy ppn. blush.gif

How did you manage to wangle that then!!

Just had a look out the window here...

    and...

    It's RAINING!!! :help:

Only 50m ASL though, so maybe it's an elevation thing...

Will be interesting to see what it's like up the top of Lansdown in Bath tomorrow...

    It's about 210 - 220m ASL there...

Is it still going in GS?... Getting heavier?...

  12. Another Met Office warning out at 16:12 for HeavySnow SW England...not for Cornwall and Devon we get the rain wacko.gif

Yep!... Obviously the Met Office know something we don't, as looking through the charts (the simple ones that I can understand!), there's no sign of even a possibility of snow!!

There is a moderate risk of severe weather affecting parts of England and Wales. Rain spreading north may turn to snow and has the potential to give accumulations of 2 to 5 cm in places, with a risk of 7cm on high ground. The snow should clear away eastwards later in the day.

Issued at: 1612 Sun 21 Feb

We got snow in Bath (up by the racecourse) last Thursday... Will it happen again tomorrow???... crazy.gif

  13. Hmmm, interesting update to the advisories issued by the Met Office just after 11:00am this morning...

This is what they've got for tomorrow for a fairly large chunk of the South West...

There is a moderate risk of severe weather affecting parts of England and Wales. Rain spreading north may turn to snow and has the potential to give accumulations of 2 to 5 cm in places, with in excess of 7cm on high ground.

Issued at: 1103 Sun 21 Feb

I thought any snow risk this far South had disappeared?!... cc_confused.gifunknw.gif
