  1. earlier this week the ground was drenched but after 20mins of heavy big flake snow it settled and dusted everything. not saying that it will settle tonight (or even snow!) but persistant snow can settle on wet ground

Very true... This happened in Bath (up by the racecourse) yesterday... Ground was soaked, but the snow still managed to stick/settle/pitch (take your pick!) regardless.

I also experienced this up in Huntingdon a few years ago... Heavy rain all morning... Turned to snow about midday... By 15:00 in the afternoon there was a good couple of inches on the ground!

However, I think with tomorrows set-up, even if the snow does stick (or settle or pitch...) it probably won't be around for long, which is a shame really, as the weekend is looking quite cold (well, it was the last time I checked but I've not seen the latest model runs!).

  2. shame you moved from trowbridge mate, remember last winter well when it dumped snow when everyone said it wouldnt!

Yes, very true... Hopefully I might be in a good spot for tonight though... Time will tell! Not holding out too much hope as it really is "knife-edge" stuff... I'm not really expecting anything other than rain... But who knows... Could be lucky!

You may be in a good spot too... I see Wiltshire has been mentioned quite a lot in relation to the potential snow disruption tomorrow!

  3. Evening all! :hi:

Back for another Winter on NetWeather!...

I would love to join in with the "temperature watch", but we've recently moved house and in the process of doing so the removal men smashed my weather station!

I doubt I'll get another one up-and-running before the winter is over (if it ever gets going that is!)...

The car said it was 4.5ºc about 30 minutes ago here.

Oh, I'm in Bristol now (Emersons Green area)... Not sure what the "ASL" figure is but will try and find out!

Not sure what to believe tonight... Will I wake up to a white world or a washout! :cc_confused:

  4. Pretty awful here too now!... Was quite nice earlier, but heavy rain has just set in... Great!

Looking forward to the gym and sauna later!

Still lots of indecision in the Model Output Thread, but hints from several of the more experienced posters that things could start cooling down again from the 17th onwards...

Nothing spectacular showing yet, but we're still a week away from the end of this milder spell, so not throwing in the towel just yet!...

Don't forget, these models can (and do!) change their minds on a regular basis!... We may be staring down the "cold barrel" again by this time next week...

Or we might still be in the mild/wet/windy muck we have today... No way of knowing until later on this week I would say...

Fingers crossed that the cold (colder) trend keeps showing for next week...

Did you say you're off skiing on the 15th Mullender?... Could coincide nicely with our next "cold spell"!!!

  5. I think we have been spoilt here in Glos for 12 months with the past snow...

Yeah, you rascals in Glos nicked the last 2 snow dumpings that were forecast for areas slightly further South!!! :smiliz64:

I have noticed that in the Model Output thread the 18-21 Jan has been talked about regularly over the last few days as to when we can expect the next cold spell to start digging in...

That is of course unless the models decide to bin that trend nearer the time!!

  6. Evening all... :hi:

Very slim chance of snow for most of us now then... Shame... I was half expecting to see some snow today based on the forecast a couple of days ago!

Temperature here down to 1.9ºc with a Dew Point of 1.5ºc... Not much chance of any snow at the moment!

Oh well, hopefully this upcoming milder spell won't stick around too long!

Hmmm... I'm not so sure... Temp and dew points falling away nicely here, temp currently 2.1c and dew pt 1.0c.

    We might be pleasantly surprised!

    Lets hope so!

  7. I found old photo of snow in april 14th 1999 and you can see what the road was like by morning of the 15th next day and it was really quite bad with trees leaning into road, they had to bring people in to cut them all back and re-open road. drinks.gif Not that many people use that lane anyway lol its more like a track.

    post-8911-12674790498155_thumb.jpg

    Wow, awesome picture there Mullender!

Would be nice too see something like that again, although it's looking pretty unlikely for this winter!...

  8. Yes we were very lucky with the passing low!!!

Yes very quite, it's been great reading the different forums around the country one part has snow and the other sunshine etc.

I read the Scottish one for a bit the other night when they were getting their snow storm!...

Looks like we'll have to wait for next winter before we get a chance to post similar stories (assuming next winter will be at least as good as this one!)..

  9. Just been reading the MOD thread,It's still very confusing..... for me anyway to understand what they mean etc.wallbash.gif

It's been a very interesting forum to try and follow. See the bad storms have hit areas of Europe hard.

Yep, sounds like France and Spain got hit pretty bad... Glad it avoided us!

Even the MOD thread has been getting quieter over the last week or so...

  10. Evening

Not many people about on the forums. I suppose there isn't much to talk about at the moment.unknw.gif

Maybe the next discussions will be about a nice massive heatwave over the UK.yahoo.gif

There was a nice Easterly showing on the charts, up until this morning!

Would've meant a fair bit of snow later next week for most parts... But it's not showing anymore! :)

Dry and cool next week seems to be the most likely outcome (at the moment), judging on the comments in the MOD thread!

  11. I know - it's terribly frustrating isn't it! Nex thurs-fri looked fantastic yesterday and now it's completely disappeared not even a snow chance. I don't know if these forecasts have a reputation for changing back as much as they do forward but certainly a mahoosive downgrade.

Those 7-day forecasts on NetWeather are updated 4 times a day and use the latest GFS run (if you look at the bottom of the forecast it says Updated using the xxZ on [weekday] [day] [month] [hh:mm:ss] (where xx is the GFS run (00Z, 06Z, 12Z or 18Z)).

With forecasting the weather 48 hours out being so difficult and likely to change at the moment, I don't think anyone really knows what's going to happen in 5-6 days time.

Looks like it will be turning colder agian though by next Friday, but will it be dry and cold, or cold and snowy???

  12. I'm here.Just looking to see how wet it could get overnight.

Evening! Have you read Ian's latest Blog update?...

Looks like it's going to be fairly wet, but not too bad for Cornwall and West Devon... Sounds like it's going to be worse the further East you are! :help:

We are busy battening down the hatches and building boats after the quote from This is Glos!!!

    Boats or Arks?? :whistling:

  13. Severe warning out with the Met Office for Sunday, I see on the NW forecast charts that there might be a risk of snow next Thursday.

It will interesting to see what comes of it.drunk.gif

Yep, I hope Thursday comes off! Will be interesting to see if we get anything other than rain on Sunday here too!

Right, I'm off for tonight... I think my WiFi is playing silly beggars (stopped and started it twice now and still playing up!)... It's starting to really annoy me now, so before the laptop meets a nasty end, I'm gonna give up and go to bed!

    Catch ya later!
