  1. Great pictures, I guess you have had a bit more than us but waking up to a good frost this morning does raise the spirits.
  2. It’s only better than most than most recent winters but hang about this one is only half way through, wait until mid March before passing judgement.
  3. I just had a report from Tynemouth, they say it’s pretty deep there already. It’s snowing steadily in Pont, temp 0.2c
  4. Since last night when we had dropped to 4.6c the temperature has alternated between 4.1 and 4.9c, it obviously needs to get down lower, tonight certainly has possibilities.
  5. There is a very interesting article on the strat thread by Rapido regarding the similarities between this winter and that of 1929. Do not give up hope there appears to be promising signs come the end of January.
  6. Friday/Saturday March 13th/14th 1979, Leaving for work in light to moderate rain I was surprised as on the journey into Newcastle it turn to moderate sleet and during daylight hours to snow giving a light covering in the centre of town, Being mid March and having had a wonderful snowy winter already I paid very little attention to it. We live about 6 miles north of Newcastle and before returning home I rang my wife who informed me that there was no lying snow but that it was indeed snowing, The journey home wa fairly easy other than the snow was obviously getting heavier and I could see that the temperature was falling. By the time I got home it had turned into a full scale snowstorm and it continued snowing right through Saturday and although much lighter by then it did not finally die out until 16-30 on the Sunday afternoon.
  7. If it is freezing rain take great care in the morning, we are currently getting very light snow so evening is currently a sort of dirty white!
  8. This has always been the problem with warm air trying to replace cold condition. These situations used to occur with greater frequency up here in NE England years ago and several time we were forecast rain or sleet but ended up with 5 to 8 cams of pretty wet snow.
  9. Yes indeed it certainly looks like it but let’s get it here, another 7 days of torture perhaps, you might end up buried by the white stuff. I was around in 47’ and even living a couple of miles from the actual coast the depths of the snow were great, mind you I was little then so the depth would have looked greater.
  10. It looks to me that elevated areas in the North East could get a few centimetres of snow tonight and early tomorrow, low ground is debatable.
  11. At 8-30 we hat a bit of slush but since then it has been snowing heavily and all is white, currently 0.3c and still it falls.
  12. I guess that’s it for the nest couple of weeks. The SSW results are still up in the air so to speak and will they favour us? Chio reckons it’s a 50/50 chance, he is the expert so I leave it in his capable hands but hope the dice fall our way this time.
  13. It is actually snowing well more 80/20 snow rain but sort of an improvement, as I write it’s stopped typical.
  14. Temperature 1,2c, had a hail shower at 8 am but of snow there is no sign and I reckon at least another 10 day wait before another chance may beckon , oh well back to trying to write my first long book.
  15. First of all please remember an SSW guarantees nothing but it gives us a 66% chance of a decent cold spell. , it is fair to say that the current cold spell has been totally disappointing save for the folk who have decent elevation but some of the posts at the moment can be so depressing other more optimistic might be persuaded to give the site a rest.
  16. Thanks Matt, I enjoy reading your balanced posts, we will all have to hold our breath so to speak and hope the dice fall in our favour.
  17. Sound great Mike, we had a heavy hail shower about 30 mins ago and still a bit lying, The temperature peaked at 3.9c but it’s now fallen to 0.8c so expectation of some sort of covering overnight are increasing.
  18. It’s gone very dark here and we just had a heavy hail shower turning things temporarily white, temperature 3.4c
