  1. Satellite imagery doesn't show much at the moment, but what we can't see is how the jet stream is going to interact. http://www.yr.no/satellitt/europa_animasjon.html
  2. If it's envy then let them crow on about it, the fact is we are looking at a scenario that can damage property and take lives. http://www.itv.com/news/anglia/2012-10-10/the-great-storm-25-years-on/
  3. Morning all. Having lived through the 1987 storm I'm strangely drawn to this upcoming event. In 1987 as I recall, the trees were still in full leaf as they are now, this of course just amplified the effect of the wind. It was the mature Oaks in my area that suffered the most due to their shallow root systems. On the other hand, Elm and Beech trees were largely unaffected. Now I live in a mostly Beech populated area I'm still not going to be taking any chances with where I park my car Sunday night. I see the pressure is now falling. Started off at 1003 mbs this morning now at 999 mbs. Stay safe.
  4. Sorry Meggy, it was directly overhead and completely unexpected. Strangely no thunder!
  5. Well the rain has stopped but the clouds are very dark and threatening here. It almost looks convective, zero wind at ground level and the clouds are bubbling up, might be interesting later!
  6. My car looks great when it's wet, this morning it looks fantastic!!!
  7. The rain is so heavy here I'm almost expecting a bang and a flash or two!
  8. The 11 I have seen were during the day at work in Brentwood, 5 then, plus the rest were in Basildon with 4 overnight (woke me up) plus a couple on a different date, sorry i don't have the time/dates to share but if you look back I'm sure you will find when they were. Edit to add: this was the 4 storm night on the 23rd July. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FP53O1z432k
  9. Calm down William and review everyones posts and gain as much info as you can from them. This is a topic that follows nationwide trends, Newton Poppleford is in the SW UK that currently isn't expected to experience any convective weather any time soon. I realise you are only 15 but please remember the dynamic properties of storms and how you interpret the data available for your specific area.
  10. Morning all, that was an interesting evening yesterday. 13mm of rain in 20 minutes, one flash and a rumble, most unexpected! I'm undecided whether to mark it up as another thunderstorm
  11. Great pics cloudsabove, I missed out on a spectacular pic this morning in Brentwood, a huge CG blasted out of the clouds and hit a Ryanair 737 and continued on to the ground, it always happens when you don't have your camera with you! The plane appeared to be ok.
  12. Just looking at it, the major rainfall is on the eastern flank of each of the two major cells, looks like a feeding frenzy to me. As they make landfall I suspect they may swerve a little to the East (not science but intuition) but whatever their track, with the clear blue skies before them it should make for some interesting photos.
  13. Brentwood has just lit up out of nothing, never saw this one coming, loadsa T+L
  14. Another storm just sprang up here in Brentwood, seemed to come from nowhere. Continuous thunder and impressive CG lightning!
  15. Massive storm passing through Brentwood just now, plenty of CG and almost continuous thunder
  16. looks impressive, got several heavies including a A380, B777, A319 just going round in circles directly above and the skies to the west are a hideous grey!
  17. Not sure what to believe, Burnham weather suggests all this activity to my West (below) but the IOW detector has nothing of the sort
  18. Ok that's not so good then, this blustery wind could have had you off the road! Just now had a mahoosive shower, the raindrops (if I could have measured them) looked to be an inch across, no hail or thunder but very short and sharp.
  19. Just had a drizzly shower here from a very black cloud. And just off topic for a mo, what bike do you have Leigh?
  20. Maybe they did, I drove my daughter to Gatwick yesterday and it was like a sunday, bliss!
