  1. East midlands trains dealing with disruptions due to trees, garden sheds, and trampolines on the lines
  2. Shoreham weather showing average wind speeds of 60mph, can anyone confirm that? http://www.shorehambeachweather.co.uk/
  3. Sferics crossing the Irish sea, we might see some embedded thunderstorms this evening >> http://www.isleofwightweather.co.uk/StormVueNG.htm
  4. Hi Dave, yes I read your post, that's what prompted me to take that photo, albeit fuzzy and out of focus
  5. Afternoon all, I'm wondering if this crane will still be there in the morning! It's already swaying and the wind's barely 20mph at the moment!
  6. You obviously wasn't around for the 1987 'Hurricane'. Don't worry although I'm 52 I slept right through it and awoke to utter devastation in the morning. I'm hoping this event will not be as damaging, but the recent rainfall and saturated ground is surely going to play a part!! Stay safe!
  7. Hi all, anyone watching the tides for Southend? It seems instead of the expected 6.2 metres it's going to well be over 7 metres! This mornings low tide was 1.5 meters higher than predicted. Might take a drive over there, but it's a bit chilly out! It's gone!
  8. BBC Essex have live updates, not so much Mandela either http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbcessex
  9. Sheerness tide height is way ahead of schedule, I suspect the same for Southend as it's just across the river. http://www.ntslf.org/data/realtime?port=Sheerness
  10. Some bright spark will know. What I do know is the tide at Southend is already 1 metre from it's expected high and running an hour ahead and it's still got 3 hours to go!
  11. Relative to what exactly? I was under the impression the height of a high tide was measured from the height of the previous low tide. I didn't think it had any relationship to land based structures or altitude. I may be wrong ....................... HELP
  12. I've been reading some people saying tide levels are falling before the high tide has arrived. This may be like a Tsunami effect but instead the 'Low' is the approaching wave holding back the tide. If this is the case then it's gonna come in harder than expected, and maybe a little later. This could result in a disaster as people drop their guard!!
  13. Where did this come from then? Thunder and lightning, I almost went into hibernation!!
  14. I've added my location to my signature, hope that helps?
  15. Chel where in Basildon are you? give me a loud shout if I nod off!!
  16. Do as I say, not as I do. Incidentally, popping out to Southend for a battered sausage and chips, I hope it's only the sausage that gets battered!
  17. Wind gust here of 12mph, although I suspect it's more. Any advances on that?
  18. I'm going there later to sit on the seafront with my camera, your best off taking the A13, the A127 is likely to be a dangerous place with so many trees lining it, but saying that, 7pm may be ok!
  19. I remember 1987 well, trying to navigate the streets of Hornchurch in my Mk1 Escort 1300 XL. Trees fallen everywhere, old bill and the fire brigade maxed out. The only thing I would like to see again is my old Escort, the destruction after that storm took weeks to clear, not to mention the electricity and phones being down. No candles in the shops and the supermarkets where all but empty! The one lasting image I have is the local kids hanging from tree branches, they were being blown into a horizontal position such was the force of the wind. They were lucky as the trees they were hanging from were flattened later on as the storm grew.
