With energy costs being what they currently are and what they are going to be in October, I think the weather this Winter has done us a big favour. More of the same next year and then once prices have dropped and become more reasonable happy to take a 1947 and/or 1963 Winter again. BTW, there is an Interesting looking programme all about the Winter of 1963 on channel 5 this coming Thursday evening

Storm Eunice - 18th February
Weather of Mass Disruption replied to Thunder and Lightning's topic in Storms & Severe Weather
The tin of baked beans I had last night on my jacket potato caused bigger gusts of wind around here - Not IvyBridge, I'm now based in Nottingham / Uttoxeter! Seems to have been well over hyped by the media. It's not a bad thing I suppose as I like trees so hate the thought of millions being felled in one swoop, I remember the storm of 1987 fondly. Plus, I wouldn't want to see anyone come to any harm. Although, extreme weather does bring a certain level of excitement, it has to be said so in a way there is a tinge of disappointment -
I've been thinking about winters past when there were 'Great Frosts' like that in 1709 or 1890/91 and whether the conditions we have this winter would have been similar back then i.e. stuck under large amounts of high pressure for months on end. I think we may have still been in the mini ice age period back then so I assume the climate would have been generally cooler than it is today

It comes to something when Athens and Madrid have more snow than you in a winter, talk about rubbing 'salt' into the wounds! -

Wow! Thanks for sharing - The extremes in this country are quite something, given how small an island we are! Still not seen one proper flake of snow this winter... -

Have the Americans stolen our chunk of the Polar Vortex? Quite exceptional conditions over there and not in the usual states. Must be great living over there, knowing that every winter you are pretty much guarunteed at least one winter storm Still not seen one proper flake of snow this winter. Hope to heading back north once the lockdown is eased so if we get any cold in March that might be my ony chance this winter -

Yep, been an absolute shocker - a few light flurries of grupel. Not seen 1 proper flake of snow yet this winter I need to look at buying a small place in Braemar, the winter they have had so far this year looks sensational -

I saw more volcanic ash deposited from Eyjafjallajökull than I have snow this winter, been very disappointing -
I don’t know if the Beeb lag behind in terms of up dates but Tom Schafernaker just did quite a detailed weather report on the Beeb News channel and he showed this and also said they are expecting the cold to win out this week but next week is still very uncertain. I would say Thursday is most definitely our best chance of seeing cold down here this winter so I’ll everything crossed for us all in the SW to get in on the action

I was remaining quite optimistic about the prospects of getting some snow this week, but this is waining fast. Not a hint of any snow making it this way according to the latest weather report on Sky and the Beeb and its back up to 10 degrees by next Monday I really can’t blame CentralSouthernSnow for ‘logging off’ this winter at all, and agree with him, a light dusting is nothing to get excited about. I love cold weather, but I love the snow more and to have cold without snow, is like having the spring without the bird song It’s funny how the rain never fails to make it to these parts, no matter what direction it’s come from I’ll keep dipping in and out of here and the mod thread but I’m not expecting any change, any time soon...

They might be showing a temperature of 1 or 2 degrees but this doesn’t factor in the windchill which will make it feel like much colder and definitely sub zero -

All but given up! -
If we get the cold and the precipitation disappears I would class this area as one (if not the) worst in the UK for snow! And I thought growing up on the Leicester / Nottingham border was bad! I have been down here since early December and you can probably count on one hand the amount of days when it hasn’t rained at some point, so I’ll try to remain optimistic about the next 4 days or so... we can all get in on the action, just one day with a real good dumping will suffice, is it too much to ask for

I saw their weather report this morning as well and it actually looked farely mild down here (nothing unusal about that this winter as we've not seen a single flake yet) for most of the weekend, certainly knowhere near cold enough for snow. I don't know if they use the Met or Meteo Group? I was beginning to wonder whether everything had been delayed again, but looking at the Mod thread this doesn't seem the case. Perhaps they usuing old data or the cold is just not going to get over this way until at least Monday. Going to remain positive, as once the cold becomes entrenched then surprises can pop up at any time. Although I wasn't down here in 2018 for the BFTE, I have seen photos of deep snow and drifts
