  1. Perhaps if you stopped killing them there might be more about! I have no idea why you (or others) feel the need to do this to both wasps and bees. I just pick them up and pop them outside, simples. They have no interest in stinging you unless they feel threatened. I have been stung myself on a few occasions, the worst being inside my mouth when I nearly swallowed a wasp (it had sneaked into a can of larger whilst out fishing one day), but that still doesn't put me off them, in fact the very opposite, I find them to be wonderful creatures.
  2. Have to disagree with this statement, don't you recall March 2013? Coldest in 50 years with loads of snow and ice days for weeks. Granted they are rare, but given the right synoptics, perfectly plausible. I am hoping we can get a least one 'nationwide' snow event this winter as it has felt like a long time since the last one...
  3. Cold rain, sleet, snow, then back to rain - a proper grim morning. This cold spell turning into a none event, which is a real shame as it had much promise!
  4. Been snowling nicely here and gone from green to a nice covering in about half an hour or so. Would say about 3cm which is okay and hope we get more passing over this afternoon
  5. Had light grain / snow showers on and off all afternoon here. Nothing to shout about but the cold is hear and hopefully some more meaningful snow will follow!
  6. Possibly banned (or driven away) from all the squabbling! Or can't take any more near misses and wanted to wait until T24 to be sure!!!
  7. Carol Kirkwood on this mornings BBC weather wasn't talking of anything significant this week, in fact it was all rather tame with just transient snow showers and feeling rather chilly in the bitter winds... Better than nothing I suppose, but nothing like those lucky so on so's across the pond!
  8. Snowing quite quickly here in North Nottingham and settling everywhere, somewhat surprised as thought it would have turned to rain.
  9. Had a light covering too, but nothing to excited about as nearly all gone. If it is going to snow then I'd rather have a good dumping. Boxing Day was far better as we had 4 inches in about 3 hours.
  10. Very light covering here, but nothing like they were initially forecasting. Real let down this one! Can't imagine it will stay around for long or that we'll see any more as it doesn't feel that cold. Ce La Vie...
  11. Been snowing lightly here for an hour or so. Not going to amount to anything if it continues like this, might as well be raining! :-(
  12. A few snow showers here this afternoon. Nothing significant or heavy enough to settle but still refreshing to see
  13. All I have heard today is that tonight is going to be coldest night in two years. But when out walking the dog earlier (18.00 pm) it didn't feel cold at all. We have cloud cover at present but with no precipitation. At this rate we are unlikely to even get a frost let alone any of the white stuff IMO it doesn't bode well for Tues / Weds, hope I am proven wrong though...
  14. Been a lovely cold day here in Notts and finally we get some precipitation and it falls as rain, you couldn't make it up!!!
  15. Not a flake to be seen here, thought that would be the case. A touch of frost and that has been it. Still it is disappointing but thats the British weather for you
  16. Just crystal clear here. Reckon we'll be lucky to see any snow tonight, but you never know we might get lucky and tap into a few of those showers :-)
  17. Perhaps the weather wants to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the winter of 1947 early! It was around this time in January that things started getting interesting http://www.meteociel.fr/modeles/archives/archives.php?day=23&month=1&year=1947&hour=0&map=0&mode=0
  18. Currently raining with a bit of sleet here :-(
  19. Mixture of rain, sleet, wet snow here. Reckon we would need more elevation for it to be full on snow
  20. BBC weather this morning were not very keen on the snow prospects this coming week, unless you are in the Highlands. Plenty of storm activity and rain if that floats your boat!
  21. Its incredibly mild tonight, just driving home from work and the car was reading at 14c! Not sure what the record is for Jan but this is surely well above the average
  22. Hi Fergieweather I find your comments a fascinating insight and appreciate you taking the time to post on this forum. I was however a little confused about your comments regarding the snow at low levels not settling on Saturday as a result of previous wet weather. On boxing day we had heavy rain which saturated the ground which then quickly turned to heavy wet snow which left four inches of settled snow in just a couple hours. This then stayed around for around a week. It can happen, although rare for my location, so does this depend on the type of snow that is falling i.e. the more wet variety? Thanks in advance
