  1. Cracking view you have there PM - must be great when it is snowing heavily and you can enjoy a cuppa while watching it pile up outside
  2. Nice covering this morning, hope it stays around! Won't get to enjoy it though as laid up in bed with awful cold, typical! 😩
  3. Perhaps I should look out the window more as coming down beautifully at the mo, everywhere white over already
  4. The worst kind of weather there is here in Notts - cold rain!!! Doubt we'll see any snow in my location, usually when it is so marginal we miss out here. have seen it happen to many times! :smiliz23:
  5. Does anyone know whether the AA are privy to long term forecasts from say the Meto that the general public don't have access to? The reason I ask is that I was towed back from West Yorkshire on Sunday and was chatting to the AA man and he said an off the cuff remark about when all the 'snow and cold' arrives. I thought nothing of it at the time but now with stella charts showing in the MOD thread (albeit in FI) It got me thinking. Presumably they would appreciate an early heads up as they would no doubt be inundated if we had a repeat of a 1947, 62/63, 78, 81/82 etc.
  6. Thanks to all that answered my question earlier - it has certainly helped to improve my understanding.
  7. A quick question for those who have a far greater understanding of this than I and apologies if this is not right forum for this question. Why is that America can forecast their Winter snow and weather (be it vast snow storms or just a harsh very cold period) a lot further ahead than us? Or like us, could their models be showing a raging snow storm (equivalent to our Easterly say) and then this get dropped within a very short window, like 72/48 hours. Thanks in advance
  8. Yep, just the other day the BBC Forecast said it will be grey, damp and gloomy all day for my part of the world. It could't have been more wrong, we had clear blue skies and light winds drying everything out! In fact December has been really sunny this year I recall the Easterly that never was a few years back and that still haunts me to this day! So although these charts really get me excited and I am going to 'try' to remain cautiously calm. If however, they are still showing on next Wednesday (Xmas Eve) then I might just go a little crazy! Apologies if slightly off topic mods!
  9. I am definite 9 and I would say my missus would be an 8, so thats a real bonus! I recall lamp post watching and singing as the snow fell as a young lad (in the 80's) in the hope that it would snow harder or just keep snowing. You got to laugh hey, the things you do. I still lamp post watch to this day but dropped the singing incase the wife had me committed! I have been watching Lillehammer on NetFlix and have to say Norway just looks like an amazing country, so picturesque. Those lucky peeps get guaranteed snow every year and it must be so amazing to live somewhere like that, where they'll be discussing how harsh this years winter will be rather than will we actually see a flake! I adore the UK, just wish all our winters could guarantee more cold and snow... Really want my 18 month old Golden Retriever to see his first snow this winter, was so gutted last year as it was a complete wash out! Fingers crossed for all us coldies
  10. Given that the local Meto (for BBC East Midlands ) were forecasting snow for yesterday IMBY (it didn't even rain!) I would be inclined to go with the GFS
  11. Oh dear, thats put the kibosh on this winter now , even the BBC are reporting on the Daily Express headlines, whatever next! http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/blogs-the-papers-30356337
  12. I'll take that and a few of those -24's! Just don't want to get too excited too soon, but if it is still showing with only a 48/24 hours to go then we could be looking at an insane start to Winter
  13. I could be mistaken, but I think his forecasts are a bit outlandish and more of the Madden'esk type, i.e. not backed up with a whole lot of science. Still, would take that Winter / December again any day as it was truly amazing here.
  14. Aha, I wish I was younger than 35! Not far off though at 38. But you are right, I have missed all of the greatest Winters although I do have fond memories of those in and around the mid 80's, + the monster dumping we had just before Xmas one December in the early 90's, tho' it didn't last long. I have always loved Winter and cold weather and couldn't get enough of December 2010, probably the best cold spell I have lived through with a white Xmas to boot! I am keeping everything crossed for this Winter and reckon we'll see some descent cold and snowy weather at some point, but we may have to be patient. Last Winter was just the most painful ever!
  15. Sounds absolutely amazing (would be great to see, do you have any pics?). Personally I have never experienced that amount of snow. Mainly due to living in the Midlands, although If I could persuade the wife to move to the Peak District I might well get to. Failing that, I'll emigrate to Buffalo! Lol!
  16. I think I heard that next week is getting warmer, perhaps record breaking. Unless that was someone on a wind-up!
  17. Absolutely love this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5m6oXJcg7aM#t=76 Some people get all the luck hey!
  18. Great Link PW and cracking read, really incredible to see them chatting about 'feet' of snow. Makes us getting excited over a mere few inches look a tad ludicrous and rather desperate!
  19. Blimey, the Great Lakes really do make the most amazing snow machines! Will definitely have go and visit this part of the States during Winter some time. Truly a mouth watering amount of snow and am just way too jealous right now!!!
  20. Some places have had as much as 70 inches and its only November! We can only dream of seeing that much snow, even in the harshest of Winters! They are very lucky peeps on the other side of the pond, thats for sure
