  1. Nobody from Nottingham posting and with good reason, not a flake to be seen. We have definitely missed out on the heavier stuff when it’s been forecast... I was really hoping to see some large flakes and it booting it down before I head off to bed, haven’t the energy for a night of lamp post watching!
  2. I think you'll get the heavy stuff moving up from the south later on today. You could be in for a real snow fest
  3. For all my moaning about the lack of snow and Nottingham snow shield it hasn't stopped snowing for hours. We must have a good 4-5 inches of lying snow . i haven't even attempted to get to work as my usual commute is around an hour and a 15 minutes, working remotely is a bonus! Plus I get to walk the dog in these wonderful conditions
  4. That has to be one of most depressing charts in history from IMBY perspective - clear space in the middle is right where Nottingham is, the snow shield is in full effect there!
  5. We did pretty well in March 2013 and really well in 2010. I try not to get taken in by hyperbole as seen way to many let downs. I don’t recall ever having a snow day from work (how tragic is that! ) and in 1991 I was in my last year at school so probably did have a day or two off if I recall... This Friday had all the ingredients of either being amazing and going down in history or of being a complete let down, only time will tell I guess
  6. I’m a massive cold lover but can’t help feeling that this cold spell so far has been a bit of a let down, purely from an imby perspective. The odd heavy shower here in Nott’s but it certainly seems like a rather tame beast so far! Lol i really hope Friday and perhaps the weekend can live up to expectations but I won’t be holding my breath i remember walking through knee deep snow and 8-10ft drifts in the beast from east in 1991, that was amazing
  7. Have to say your avatar is very appropriate at this moment in time, as we could be heading straight into a Perfect 'winter' Storm!
  8. Surely such a chart would have as much of a chance of verifying as it does of not doing so?
  9. Hopefully some the snow they have had in Moscow will make it over here in a week or two http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-42939644
  10. Unless both the BBC and ITV have access to some much better models I wouldn’t worry about what they are currently reporting. In my experience they won’t jump on board the cold train until much closer to the time, more likely to see them going for the current model output from Thursday onwards I would say if it’s still there and hasn’t suddenly gone the way of the pear
  11. Carinthian should be happy with this http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-42623293 as would anyone of us, two meters of snow is 2 days is just shy of 7 feet!
  12. Don't buy it myself as the Beebs forecasts have mentioned mainly rain except for the hills. They could be wrong (and I would love it to be) but in my experience when rain is forecast it is usually always accurate!
  13. It has been snowing on and off here in Nottingham for the past couple of hours and I wasn't expecting anything until tomorrow. Nothing major, but a nice sugar dusting. I've tempered my expectations for tomorrow but hoping for something half descent, we'll see... Keep the faith peeps as just never know what might await you in the morning
  14. Philip Avery said on the BBC forecast last night (and I quote) that ''anyone wanting mild Atlantic driven weather systems should look away now as they may not be seen for some time'' talk about a tease! Anyway, make of that what you will but this year has really got off to a cracking start and long may it continue...
  15. Had a nice snow shower just now in Notts, big flakes and light covering. Don't think it will last long but nice to see nonetheless, certainly more than we have had in the last 4 winters
  16. Didn't see a flake in Nottingham this morning and then drove through a blizzard on the A50 as heading into Burton-Upon-Trent where I work! They have had quite a nice covering there, Nott's usual snow shield in force no doubt!
  17. So the Greek Islands roast in Summer and now freeze in Winter - reckon I may need to seriously consider relocating if this is going to be a trend! We must be the unluckiest nation on the planet for getting cold and snow to our shores! http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-38554357 It feels like groundhog day when reading the model thread, will it, won't it, break down imminent, even though any cold hasn't even arrived (yet!) potential, potential, potential, disappearing / phantom Easterlies - arrrrrrrrrrrggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!
  18. I feel your pain CC... This winter is shaping up to be one of the worst ever and that is saying something on the back of the previous two! The models seem to be playing some kind of sick joke on us, saying hey look at what you could be getting, but you know what, I don't think I'll bother. The thing that really wrecks my head is that when say the GFS is predicting mild mush and storms it always verifies and when it is showing a stonking easterly or barn stormer of a northerly it very rarely, if ever verifies, I mean what is that all about! I also get really frustrated when people say well its the UK's location and the 'default' is blah, blah, blah - this didn't seem to be the case in the 1800's when even in the milder winters they had at least one or two descent cold spells or falls of snow! Rant over, off home to drown my sorrows in a bottle or two of ale! ATB Gingerbeard
  19. Anyone know know where OldMetMan is, used to really enjoy reading his posts but not seen anything so far.
  20. Nothing crazy about this at all. I am not particularly religious but am quite spiritual and do believe in premonitions, physic experiences etc. for a couple of reasons. First one being that I had such a feeling on September 10th 2001, I knew something bad was going to happen with airplanes I just didn't know what. The very next day 9/11 occurred and Al-Qaeda used planes as missiles. The second one, well I'll save that for another thread as it's going way off topic. But don't doubt them... As for this winter, well it is hard to say but I have had a feeling for a while that this one might be up there with one of the best. But we'll see, times are very different and with climate change being what it is, who knows how it'll pan out. I certainly would love to experience one truly epic winter in my lifetime. 2009/10 and 2010/11 were great so I can't complain as we fared very well indeed. I do believe it was well deserved after living through the 90's and early 00's years of utter dross mind. A combination of 47/63 would be my ideal winter so bring it on, shovels at the ready!!!
  21. Father in law lives in Bolton and has right been rubbing it in! Not had a sniff here in Notts, well depressing!
  22. Just tipping it down with rain here. Had a feeling it would amount to anything
  23. It's already been raining here in Notts so I've got more chance of seeing pigs fly than snow tomorrow, not that I'm pecissimistic or anything!
