A stat from our local weather station that really sums up June 2012 so far: today was only the second occasion throughout the entire month whereby our maximum temperature edged above 20c
We recorded a high of 22.7 on the 20th, whereas today peaked at 21.3.

No deal. I really love the snow - in fact, even more than I love thunderstorms (unless your snow shield is a weak one).
Plus, your fellow members of the Solihull Netweather community would need to be fully consulted first, before such a swap could be agreed

@bish i can't c these charts coming off, checked the met 16-30day forecast and there's no mension of storms for mid week. I'm almost giving up up this summer, i bet u guys anything come autumn and winter the northern block will be gon and will get the same crap as last winter.
I know what you mean Syed, but we can but hope. I just pray to god that everything doesn't gradually get shifted eastwards

So, when is it safe to start getting excited about the Midlands storm potential for this Thursday (28th)? There are some truly exceptional GFS charts for that date at the moment - perhaps our luck is finally about to change............?

I hope AJ is correct - we may need some help from the weather in the Edgbaston test match!

orographic lift & resultant rain shadow effect
It amazing looking at this in action on the rainfall radar, isn't it? I honestly thought only the higher mountains in North Wales could produce such an effect, but evidently not. It's almost as if someone has powered up a rain shield since mid-afternoon.

A couple of very sharp showers so far today, but nothing thundery as yet. Another very dark cloud is approaching from the south-west, judging by the radar a deluge might be imminent.

My local weather station (http://www.monkspathweather.org.uk) is stating that 34mm has fallen so far today. That seems a bit on the high side, although in fairness it has been coming down pretty much all day.
I had to turn on the electric heater a couple of hours ago, it was so chilly - astonishing contrast to a week ago.

Blimey!
That was a dodgy ride home!
The rain was so torrential that I couldn't ride at more than 10mph and I had to stop several times because the man hole covers were blowing off!
It was really, really severe, watch out those down the line with this rain storm!!!!!!!
Wow that sounds intense! What's the situation with those man hole covers? I've never heard of that happening before.
We've just had one final burst of heavy rain, really torrential, in broad sunlight which gave us a stunning rainbow. About forty five minutes of constant downpour, just what the doctor ordered after an uncomfortably humid day

Everything feels lovely and fresh here now. The sun is coming out again, even though it's still raining quite heavily.
Some of those storms to the north and east of London look astonishing on the radar

Nothing exciting over coventry not even a good rain storm
Blimey, you're unlucky. It's been belting down here for the past twenty minutes now. Maybe it's heading in your direction

Just heard a couple of very distant rumbles of thunder. We had one very sharp shower about half an hour ago (which I guess is the same as the one Rainbow Snow reported on here), but the sky is still very murky and ominous.
EDIT: absolutely torrenting it down now

Coventry has recorded 25C+ for 7 consecutive days now which is incredible for May and even in mid summer not that common.
Great stat Eugene, same here as well. However today may well be the final day of the sequence.

Temperatures actually not falling this evening, still 24c with no breeze! like being on holiday, perfect!
Yes, it's very impressive for temps to still be so high this late in the evening. Currently 22.1c here, with a high of 25.6c just after six o'clock this evening.

No thunder here in Solihull today, but some very heavy showers between some lovely sunny spells. A very beefy hail shower a few minutes ago, one of the biggest I've seen for a while.
A bit of everything today!

Suppose we'd probably need those heavier line of showers just to the East to try and match, or beat August's rainfall total, although it kinda looks like the heaviest parts are just about missing us to the North-East. And, in fact, there is even some clearer skies starting to approach from the South-East/East in the distance.
Yes, from seemingly nowhere the skies have almost totally cleared now. It looks like we won't quite make it to 25.00mm, but statistically any day which see 20+mm is pretty rare for these parts

Impressive to think it was about 19 months ago, since our last soggiest day.
Even longer ago than that now, Rainbow Snow. This latest spell of heavy rain means that we have to go back to late August 2010, when 28.75mm fell on the 26th. I can't see us surpassing that today, although you never know. Current rainfall now stands at 24.25mm.

The spirally Low Pressure seems to be throwing a few heavy showers towards this direction on the Northern part of that precipitation to the South and heading for the West Midlands. Otherwise been a day of wild wind and rain.
Yes, it's really coming down again now. I thought that was it for the day a couple of hours ago, but those showers seem to be heading straight for us.
This is now our wettest day since October 2010.

Heaviest rain of the day here, an absolute torrent.
Sunshine at Stamford Bridge for the QPR match!

Up to 18.00mm for the day, and the wind has noticably picked up in the past hour or so.
The radar suggests the back-edge is really pepping up.

15.50 mm recorded here since midnight according to our local weather station, which pushes us over 100 mm for the month.

Personally I find heavy rainfalls interesting, and think if it's dull and wet I'd like decent rainfall totals to provide interest. Not gunna lie, as I'm indoors tomorrow anyway the wind and rain could provide quite a cosy feeling too.. I would not like it if we had too many dull wet days in summer though, heavy convective downpours are more interesting and can provide the rain then! :-)
I'd like to echo this sentiment. I'm looking forward to being woken up tomorrow morning to the sound of heavy rain lashing against the window, and then realising that I don't have to go to work........
Plus, at risk of repeating myself, but we desperately need all this rain. Might as well happen now rather than the middle of July.

Judging by the radar, the rain is now edging up from the south-east - pretty much exactly as forecasted.
I can't imagine a solitary delivery will be bowled anywhere in the county championship tomorrow.

Dewpoints are continuing to rise everywhere. Now 17.8 according to our local weather station, and still rising. It feels incredibly sticky out there right now.
In fact, continuing our Blackadder theme from earlier today: this is the stickiest situation since Sticky the stick insect got stuck on a sticky stick!
