  1. I asked Nick L on the Polar Low thread and he said that he thought I was too far East and North but anything which does fall would be snow but also said he couldn't rule out it hitting and the truth was that no one knows for certain yet.
  2. Cheers, it looks like there is a detached shower band disconnected from the swirl of the low.
  3. Am I likely to get blasted please NIck?, The Met Office PPN predictive element has some sort of streamer showing at least very close but Netweather warning only mentions Wales, the Midlands and SW England.
  4. But being gutted at a no snow or delighted with a tonking is only the same as football fans celebrating (or not). I could say the same to people who get dumped by their wife / partner, same result, no one died and their are worse things in life.
  5. Day assuming your comparing similar falls, of course your more likely to see it at night though. Is that Tony btw?
  6. Use netweather, PPN type available, use Met office just to confirm PPN as a sort of second check.
  7. Yes same here, was a right slushy mess before this second lot started though.
  8. Belting down and settling, some of it melting but a covering again, I was really unlucky last night and up until 8am this morning, then I got belted, now been very lucky with where it set up.
  9. Belted down earlier and caused gridlock here, stopped now though but its a picturesque winter wonderland scene.
  10. To be honest I think the really interesting time could be Thursday morning rush hour, chaos possible, there could be disruption to travel with the precipitation rates.
  11. Drip. Drip. Drip. Drip. Drip. Certainly not saying it will pan out like that but its a possibility, im turning into you now, the eternal pessimist!!!
  12. You know what that chart suggests don't you?
  13. But I bet they don't think the whole of Merseyside, Greater Manchester and Lancashire will get enough snow to merit a warning but they cant draw such a sophisticated map to get every little district correct, they are broad scale warnings, they don't even have separate text to describe the warning for each individual area. FWIW, I really doubt that Blackpool will get enough of a pasting to warrant a severe weather warning at all.
  14. Yes but that's because they cant specifically mark altitude in a map like that, its just too localised. RE - Met office apps, they are derived from model runs, and as we don't have access to all the data, the Met Office map, its probably the best data at the current time, I wouldn't bother with ones that are GFS derived though.
  15. Not Friday late afternoon, uppers up significantly above -4c, 600ft altitude in a convective flow wont cut it.
  16. A lottery to some extent but I just have a feeling for about half way in between where I live and Hudder (around Mardsen and Slaithwaite) but more partuclarly areas on the Western side of Sheffield, particularly right at the top of that big hill on the Snake pass, Leeds and Bradford will do well as well, on this occasion I would rather have less risk of Marginlity and be way inland, the 17th Dec 2010 was a totally different case as the entrenched air was of a deep arctic source so when the wind swung around to a Westerly it didn't effect areas West so definitely would prefer Lancs, Merseyside etc in that setup.
  17. I think Yorkshire is actually going to do better than areas further West on this, my sweet spots are first of all a few miles South of Huddersfield and then Sheffield is going to get marmalised.
  18. Yes I am right on the border between snow and no snow, experience tells me I will se settling snow but the difference between me and people just a mile or so away will be that mine turns back to rain or sleet on Thursday after around 3-6cm but some right near me will get 15cm level with 3 and 4 foot drifts in places, at least I don't have to go very far to see it though!!!!
