  1. theres a bit of a story doing the rounds , it goes a bit like this , its been so mild for so long winter is bound to change things , my mother in law says that in her village people are stocking up on firewood and they are buying large bags of salt . it all could be true but as equally not . the weather today is absolute heaven , if anybody is interested theres some good web cams in winnipeg , and theres some good snow about , on some of the cams you can see the occasionall cyoti raiding the rubbish bins . last winter i watched a couple of cyotis having a bust up with a n east canadian wolf in the snow . if you just type in LIVE WINNIPEG WEBCAMS ON GOOGLE AND CLICK ON TOP SIGHT , BUT THERES 1000 S OUT THERE , ALL THE BEST LEGRITTER

  2. i do apologise if im off topic , but just been up garden for my hourly fag . feels cold , a nice bright jupiter , ok its high pressure and the source is continental , but my question is , 10/15 days ago what was the predicted chart for about now ,im having problems with my old slow computer plus memory on computer is so slow , and if i push it it closes down .im hoping todays continental feed was not forecast back 10/15 days ago ,if this is the case we can look foreward with the hope that winter could be not fat away ,. regards legritter .

  3. :good: just would like to say a thank you to johnholmes for his input . im still working on my weather charts and R M Sc historical records to find out if theres any pointers to this winter , going by mild sep /oct nov , but as i said , there must be thousands of possible scenorios , this morning was a fresh one , a present from the continent . cant wait for tonights runs ,heres fingers crossed , regards legritter .

  5. just had wisdom tooth out , just got back from dentist and decided to cheer myself up , had a quick look at charts 10 / 15 days out ,looking like its going too be hard to predict late november . some good cold coming for those moscovians , and also some canadian territories , lets hope some good cold gets bottled up , and we can tap into some . im currently studying some old charts from my library , looking at mild sep/ oct and nov to see what followed , not guaranteed to give us a clue but i will post if i think interesting , its going to be a painfull modell watch this winter i think, especially after last decembers dream synoptics , perhaps ecm is taking us towards something , next couple of days could tell . atleast we have 12/14 weeks to dream and hopefully get our wishes granted , cheers legritter

HOW SAD IS IT FOR A YOUNG TEENAGER TO STAY UP TILL MIDNIGHT 33 .TO LISTEN TO THE WEATHER AND SHIPPING FORECAST ,WE HAD NO TELLY , THANK GOD I GOT INTO COMPUTERS 2 YRS AGO ,THERE ,S BEEN SOME GOOD WEATHER EVENTS IN THE NORTHERN HEM RECENTLY IM SURE OUR TURN WILL COME , I SPENT THE 9/22 OCT TOURING SCOTLAND WITH MY WIFE ,WE HAD A REAL MIXTURE OF WEATHER, ONE DAY LOOKING OVER TO SKY ,YOU COULD HAVE THOUGHT YOU WERE IN GREECE ,VERY WARM BLUE SKY MAGICAL ,THE FOLLOWING DAY ON SKY ,TYPICAL AUTUMN . 5DAYS LATER TRAVELLING FROM THURSO TO PERTH WE TRAVELLED THROUGH WET SNOW ,BUT THEN RAIN AS WE DROPPED ALTITUDE / CAR NOT PLANE ,IM PRETTY CONFIDENT OF SOME COLD SHOTS THIS WINTER ,.COULD SOMEONE HELP ME OUT , MY COMPUTER IS OLD AND SLOW AND I KEEP LOSING DATA ,COULD YOU TELL ME THE SITE I THINK ITS GERMAN OR FRENCH THAT SHOWS OLD CHARTS GOING BACK YONKS CHEERS FELLOW MEMBERS , :help::good::clapping:

  7. evening all , just been sat outdoors admiring the moon and venus , im testing a battery operated temp gadget i was bought 10 yrs ago , which sends a sig to the house . temp about 12 c , if calibrated right , i would say wind about east , or slightly e/ se , very light .iv been doing some gardening today , must of cut off loads of rosebuds , they can drain a plant this time of year . lets hope we all get our wishes this winter / cheers legritter .

  8. i expect that most of us are hoping for at least 5 weeks of dream charts this winter . at the moment im trying to stay focused on the good pointers . a gut feeling of something of worth this winter . what do i base my instincs on . firstly , many parts of south and other locations low on rainfall , could this be the winter of low pressure running across the south with fronts being squeezed dry . ok the last 3 winters have seen good snowfall for many but not all , look back in history , many good uns come in packs ,with atleast one with a good old high over scandy and lows a plenty over or to our south . although its been mild lately , none of those raging sw winds ,mild wet and v windy , theres a high close by im sure given time ,it will go north for its winter holiday .take a look around the northern hemisphere weather sites , some good cold starting to show up , als night sky a good ink black , when clear , i will also state that i think the met office are a level headed ,trustworthy , and very professional body . i had the great pleasure to be invited to the forecast office in bristol for 4 days in feb 1978 , the amount of dedicated work in trying to forecast a mayor snowstorm which dumped 30cms where i lived . plus blizzards .chart after chart ., phne call after phone call , contacting organisations , etc .i hope all our fellow members on NET WEATHER HAVE A GOOD WINTER / WHAT EVER YOU DREAM FOR THIS WINTER . CHEERS LEGRITTER / FROM A COLD FOGGY DRIZZLY WINSCOMBE , .

  9. i love it when we get a good halo in the winter during a good cold spell . i remember back in 81 / 82 we had a low coming in of the atlantic , it finished up moving east to our south / a cracking snowfall followed in somerset. the halo was very pronounced the night before , as the high level cloud arrived . lets hope its a winter of halo s, lunar and solar . cant wait for some action to start ,the weather and /FELLOW NET MEMBERS /CHEERS LETS HOPE WE ALL GET OUR FAVOURITE WEATHER , AT SOME STAGE THIS WINTER .

  10. hi to anyone about in wales , here at winscombe north somerset , we have just had about 5 min of torrential rain . yes iv noticed a couple of sites now starting to beef up the potential for later in nov , but i think its a case of , keep an eye on any cold building first to our far very far north east . theres some good early cold to the north of greenland , lets hope pressure falls over azores as well , regards legritter

  11. chins up COLDIES / LAMP POST WATCHERS ETC i think we are in for an interesting 6 months . i am not forecasting a long harsh winter, but iv just had a look over the last couple of days at the northern hemis , interesting , some good night time lows , a good bit of early cold over far north and n/e of canada . when we had those mild mush years , late 80s till aprox 2008 . not much was happening in the far north during autumn , just spent 12 days in scotland and northern england sun 9th oct / sat 22nd oct , everything but the kitchen sink ,frost heavy rain , on the wed 12th oct in western scotland looking over to sky it was like being in greece , thurs and friday in sky was typical autumn , john o groats a bit windy , on the monday we travelled down to perth , chasing a weather front , we caught up with it a couple of hours before CAIRNGORMS we stoped the car whilst pretty high up ,had our hourly fag , it was very heavy rain ,within 2 min it turned sleety then wet snow ,we drove on for about 2 /3minutes and it started raining again .drove from perth to clamis on tue , and top of cairngorms snow covered , an early christmas present for me ,is the writing on the wall or will that swear word arrive soon .BAR---T AND ASSOCIATED LOW S/W OF ICELAND , IF IT IS GOING TO ARRIVE I HOPE ITS SOON , AND NOT IN OUR WINTER , LET IT COME QUICK AND GO QUICK M MY MOTH IN LAW AS JUST PHONED UP ABOUT ALL THE SNOW IN AMERICA , HAVE NOT WATCHED NEWS TODAY, AND COMP TOO SLOW , I HOPE WE ALL GET WHAT WE WANT ,CHEERS good.gif

  12. just a quicky . just enjoyed 13 days of touring uk . sun 9th oct to friday 21 st oct . mostly scotland . wed 12th oct we travelled up west coast of scotland wester ross and the view across to sky was amazing , it was very warm ,blue sky blue sea . thurs friday was spent on sky ,overcast windy sat and sunday north of scotland , fantastic waves surfers .on monday we travelled down to perth ,wewent from heavy rain to SNOW yes SNOW . but it was very brief and almost sleet this was round about devils elbow mid afternoon , the following morning we drove to clamis castle . and in the distance on the high mountains we could see the snow topped peaks . on the way back we stopped at scarborough 2 days we had a hail shower . all in all weatherwise very interesting ,cheers legritter somersetdrinks.gif

  13. :gathering: sun came out here about 1 30 pm ish ,we have a great big gurt ANTS GATHERING ON OUR PATIO , now that must be a good sign .just hoping tonights activity can kick in a little further east , but with all of us seeing some good activity for the rest of the week . just got a sneaky feeling things could be upgraded by tomorrow ,of course this is a changing situation as more atmospheric data is added . it would be nice to see most of the action during late evening , any cheers for now LEGRITTER NORTH SOMERSET . :whistling: NEWS WEATHER JUST SAID COULD BE SOME LOCAL DOWNPOURS ,
  14. :yahoo: lets hope we all see something next week . with current set up i think we are going to have to wait till late sun charts before we get a 50,percent idea on areas most prone . it could be a case of local home grown beasts on tuesday , with french inports late tues wed . a low could form and stall , somewhere over southern counties later . there could be severall e locations that get a good hit , but we are talking about 50,000 sq miles with this being a possibility at the moment , i hope all those that have missed out so far this year , get a good hammering . i just hate this damp drab crabby , grey blanket , BRING ON THE BRANDSTORMS . REGARDS LEGRITTER MENDIPS . :drinks:

well about 30 40 mins ago we had torrential rain shower, but i was on the edge of it. Sun to the west storm to the east. No thunder heard but was treated to a double beautiful bright Rainbow. As it passed over i was treated to a beautiful display of mammatus which was quite bulgy and heavy looking. It was also glowing orange from the setting sun. Simply stunning! I am easily please even though had no T/L. :yahoo:

  19. :whistling: even all . we had some good lightning on fri night in north somerset , a couple of forks and some sheet lightning but most of it was out over bristol channel . last night one rumble about 4am this morning when my wife came home from work . i did not expect anything exciting today . started my wifes food about 5 30 pm today , sky almost clear , i had back door open because our smoke alarm is delicate ,about 5 20 pm our garden furniture , light plastic took off,it then went quiet till about 6 20 pm . the wind blew up very gusty ,within 2 min it was sheeting it down with rain after about 5 min the rain eased and small hail started for about a couple of mins or so . it then chucked it down with rain again for 10 min but with brilliant sunshine , we must have been on the edge of the storm . therefollowed a bright rainbow , and to my right , a brilliant flash followed by severall loud rumbles .whilst all this was going on our local perigrin must have been out hunting , it returned with a kill just as the storm moved away towards the north east . mother nature is so amazing . any body about in glos area , i noticed about half an hour or so the bright colours moved through your area , any body further n east experiance any thing of note .i only use rain today so i am limited , plus my computer is a cart horse , when i get a new comp i will get NW radar . regards legritter n somerset :drinks:
