As with all types of weather, some people will love it, some people will hate it. Obviously, there is plenty not to like about the current weather for those who don't like heat. For me personally, temps easily into the 30s celcius with light winds is not practical for everyday life and the house just becomes like an oven. It's fine if you've nothing to do but laze around, sit in air conditioned rooms or take a dip in a pool every now and again. Low to mid 20s celcius is more than sufficient for me. At least outdoor activities can be undertaken in more comfort and evenings are still pleasant enough for sitting out.

An overnight low of 14.7C here and an uncomfortable night for sleeping last night. I can only assume other people's houses are far better at letting the heat out than mine, judging by the posts above. I did sleep, but woke at least 2 or 3 times feeling incredibly hot and uncomfortable. I had to have the fan on all night which I don't normally like because of the noise, but it was unbearable without it. The metoffice are now mentioning the chance of thundery showers/storms for tomorrow and Monday. It would be nice to get a decent storm to make up for having to endure all the heat, but my expectation is at zero given how terrible this year has been for thundery activity.

Yeah, will be interesting to see, but you are right, global warming can lead to other extremes of weather, not just heat. The metoffice statistics show that the past 30 years have been warmer on average compared to the 30 years before that. However, December 2010 was the coldest December for 100 years, so despite the warming trends, there will always be the possibility of extreme events, both in summer and winter. This is partly due to natural variation around a mean, but whether such extreme events become more frequent as a result of global warming, only time will tell.

A low of 14.1C here, definitely warmer than the previous night and although I didn't sleep too badly, I did wake up a couple of times feeling rather hot and uncomfortable, so the warmth may have caused me to stir from my sleep. The room didn't really cool a huge amount, even with the window open all night. It will likely be hotter again today but interestingly, the metoffice are forecasting a lower minimum temperature for the region tonight.

I tried the method of keeping curtains and windows shut a while back and it just made things worse, got incredibly warm and stifling in the bedroom. I do have blackout curtains, but perhaps they are not quite good enough. I usually have curtains closed but windows open. It's still just as warm, but at least it's less stuffy as the air can move through. Ventilation, even if warm air, is better than none. It's good to try and get cross ventilation going as much as possible, although the wind is so light at the moment it is difficult to achieve anything significant.

The temperature reached 32.4C here about 30 minutes ago. The humidity, although not high (35% right now), is a little higher than the last heatwave I think, which would explain the more uncomfortable feel some are reporting. The house is like an oven right now with fans blowing hot air at me. It will be interesting to see how much the temperature dips away again tonight given the shorter days.

An overnight low of 13.2C here. It didn't actually feel too bad overnight, although nights will be getting slowly warmer over the next three days so I'm not sure that will remain the case over the next few nights. However, the shorter days are notable compared to three weeks ago, and hopefully sufficient to allow for more cooling overnight to take the worst of the sting out of this heatwave. Another clear start to the day, temp currently 14.9C.

A max of 31.3C here today, and a warm night likely to follow. Too hot for my liking and it's definitely moved into the 'unpleasant' category for routine outdoor activities now. On the plus side for me, the heatwave will be peaking on Friday into the weekend which is good timing as I'm off work on Friday as well. I won't be doing anything that involves moving around too much, that's for sure.

The nights are starting to get warmer again now as the heatwave starts to kick in, not as cold overnight last night with a low of 12.6C. It was still comfortable enough for sleeping with the window open. However, we can expect night time minimums to rise by a degree or so each day now until Sunday which will combine with residual heat from the daytime periods to start to make things rather uncomfortable overnight over the coming days. Anyway, a lovely start to the day here and will certainly be a hot day with the temperature likely hitting around 30C.
