  1. just got this from the met office for the west midlands West Midlands Headline: Feeling hot and humid with an increasing risk of thunderstorms. This Evening and Tonight: Any isolated thunderstorms should die out during the evening, with most places having a dry end to the day with some sunshine. Continuing mainly dry overnight and feeling very warm and humid. Risk of further isolated thunderstorms towards dawn. Minimum Temperature 17 °C. Tuesday: Heavy, thundery downpours spreading from the south through the morning and persisting across many places areas into the afternoon. Only limited sunny spells, but feeling very warm and humid. Maximum Temperature 25 °C. Updated: 1522 on Mon 22 Jul 2013
  2. Yeah I did a similar thing a few years back decided to learn more about them wish I hadn't as a little ignorance can be bliss
  3. I do that now hide in cupboards with a mobile phone playing youtube music videos and check the radar every 15 minutes to get an idea of track and speed , worked quite well last year when we had those storms over the Olympic weekend
  4. Yep I've got storm chasers on DVD also got other weather related DVD's and I can watch lightning or storms without fear and probably watch those particular ones most I also watched some of the streams from the US storm chasing holiday or whatever you call it I can do all that but I cannot face it in person which I find strange
  5. Just out of curiosity If I were attempting to get a grip of this what do you think I should do take them on just sit though it try and tough it out or a more gradual process because as of now I worry the nervous energy and the stress are going to someday eventually kill me
  6. I'm not worried about the rain so much it's the flashes of lightning and rumbles of thunder that scare me and since most indicate frequent lightning it's this what has me worried most Ironically enough I remember a storm coming up from France obviously before 2007 when there were rumbles of thunder every 10-20 seconds a new one was rumbling overlapping the other are we in for that again and what is considered frequent lightning in the UK
  7. anyone know the expected track of these storms and where they'll might be by 7pm was planning to go out but think I'll now give it a miss
  8. Well Warwickshire is 763 Square Miles so I might get lucky can't see storms covering the entire area I hope
  9. your image of precipitation forecast tomorrow at 1500 show more rain over the north and east than through central parts tomorrow and Torro says that tomorrow the moisture line will lie through Scotland down the eastern side of England what does mean for the midlands my area no rain or perhaps just less of the severe stuff
  10. copied from the convective thread TORRO CONVECTIVE OUTLOOK issued on Monday July 22 2013, 0800GMTMoisture and instability will increase across a fairly large part of the British Isles through today, with the best combination of this across parts of England and Wales. Diurnal heating today amongst little large scale lift should promote only isolated to well-scattered showers and thunderstorms, especially across N Wales and N England. Weak shear means any storms today will be poorly organised, although isolated severe wind and hail is possible.Overnight, a trough will approach from the south-west, and moisture will continue to advect northwards. As lift from the approaching upper system overspreads the moisture plume, thunderstorms should become more numerous, especially across western and northern Britain, and then later, parts of central, southern, and eastern England. Organised multicells are possible with this activity, with isolated large hail and damaging winds possible. On Tuesday, the moisture axis will lie from Scotland down the eastern side of England. Numerous showers and thunderstorms may be ongoing to start the day within this zone, and will heavily modulate the further development of storms through the day. Scotland and N England seem like getting the most numerous storms - if activity could remain more isolated, supercells are possible. Further south, widely scattered thunderstorms may re-develop across eastern and south-eastern England, although with more marginal shear here, multicells seem the more likely mode.In both case, hail and wind are the potential severe weather threats. The overall tornado threat seems fairly low at the moment but conditions will continue to be monitored. As and when deemed necessary, severe weather discussions and/or watches may be issued.Forecaster: RPK.
  11. sorry for sounding a bit thick but what does this mean for the midlands tomorrow frosty on the the model thread showed I think it was a gfs rain projection for tomorrow with the most most prevalent rain all along the northern and eastern side of the uk with the midlands relatively dry or looking dry now I'm probably been a bit simplistic but is that the case ?
  12. Thanks hope I can keep myself together , some pretty drastic ideas are going through my head at the minute which I'm trying to ignore
  13. I know for most this is an event to look forward to but for me it's just the opposite , so just a quick question anyone have a rough idea how long is this expected to last in the midlands for I don't mean thundery showers , I mean these big storms that are forecast with the plume that is moving north it seems they'll be some storms this afternoon and especially overnight into tomorrow that are expected to merge into areas of thundery rain but are we looking beyond Tuesday into Wednesday or will it start to ease by then
  14. I am also looking forward to the cooler weather just not the storms I may have to put with to get there but it's happening early in the week so hopefully get the worst of it out of the way by midweek I'm Assuming due to the nature of storms I might not see any at all ?
  15. and for me who hates both A WEEK OF HELL coming up never know I might get lucky and storms circumvent me all week
  16. Yep the GFS Low Res must be taken with a pinch of salt unless it's showing HOT HOT HOT AND HUMID , well that's a different matter altogether
  17. If it gets as hot and as thundery as some are saying and I hate both I'll up sticks and go to shetland where it is a little cooler
  18. Very over the top so I can assume from that it's coming from the Express grantred the SE is going to have what could be considered a couple of hot days before a slight cooling for the rest it's just a continuation of what we've had a couple of weeks no more no less Wish the Press would keep their hysteria in check All this does is alarm and worry the public
  19. Reminds me of the Govenments attittude that the UK ends at Watford and doesn't exist further north
  20. latest news 24 Indicated and easterly breeze would pick up near the weekend making the SE and possibly other areas slight cooler not cold by any means just perhaps mid 20's
  21. the Met office website do show expected temps for saturday a little cooler than they are now and also the feels like factor is also lower make of that what you will , it'll probably change again
