  1. Phew! That was a fairly unpleasant commute. Just got home and opened every single window in the house, and have settled down with a very very cold wine and a browse of the models. Just checked out that little beast to the southwest, I imagine there's a great lightshow off the Cornish Coast right now!
  2. Pretty exciting potential for us! Going to take a few more runs before it firms up, and then I imagine it'll go to nowcasting, that much instability is bonkers! - not counting my chickens yet (Anyone remember 'Frenchie' from a couple of years ago?!') but then we had a great delivery from a plume last year from what I recall. My night-lightning pics from the US weren't as good this year, so I'm hoping to make up for them at the weekend......
  3. Pleasantly surprised with the two storms, although nothing jaw dropping, I'll take two hours of rolling thunder any day!!
  4. So We had one storm slip to the south of us down the estuary about an hour ago and then another one picked up just to the north west of us and has tracked through, still rumbling a bit now, and still humid which is good! Quite surprised how long they both lasted, and how quickly they popped up, but the haze really killed the visibility earlier, so no tower-spotting!
  5. So For CG lightning I usually stick mine on 15 or 20 second exposure, whack the f stop up as high as it goes.... I manual focus on a distant object like a pylon, tree, or something, and then just keep clicking until it delivers!
  6. Yep, my Parents are there at the moment on a very very soggy motorcycling holiday, they had almost non stop storms, and rain. Needless to say not much riding has been done....
  7. The one singular weekend of the year when I DON'T want to see any of the above while standing in an open field taking pictures of planes. Argh!!
  8. Pretty sure I heard a couple of rumbles from the little cell that's just popped up to the west of me.......
  9. Not sure if it'll produce much electrica;, but been watching the dark clouds gather over Central London from the office.. Radar looks nice and bright for it!
  10. ooh, it's all gone a bit dark here in the City. Just debating whether to be good and walk to the station (risking getting rained on) or get the horrendous, overheated, overcrowded tube. Technically I should walk given the diet I've just started, and the radar doesn't look *that* bad.....
  11. Just looking out of the office window, some of that high cloud is giving way to blue.... c'mon!!
  12. Just posted in the convective thread - it's really early to be throwing in the towel! It's only 11am, if we get some sun through and the heating gets going, then we could end up with another batch later this afternoon. I think to expect a 12 hour country/region wide MCS from 9am onwards was a bit of a tall order..... - even if the media hyped it up beyond belief.
  13. I'm pretty happy with how this is developing, I think the expectation for today was quite high. It is, however, 11am, we have a good few hours of heating potential to go yet, and with the rain many of us have just had, plenty of moisture in a reasonably unstable environment. Absolutely by no means a bust yet.
  14. I think writing today off before 9am might be a bit hasty! Give it a chance to warm up a bit! - it doesn't feel warm because it's 8.48 - if this was the sitch at 4pm then I might throw in the towel...but for now There is plenty more on the conveyor belt pushing up on radar.
  15. Me too! I think what's important to remember here is that we are looking at the Potential. Certainly to pinpoint where/when at this moment is nigh on impossible, especially since we're speculating over thunderstorms that don't exist yet! I'd feel happier if we'd had had a few more days of warming beforehand, but still, this setup ain't bad for early June! I'm still excited by the opportunity for something to develop, and on a weekend too! Hello UK chasing! (Although my extent of chasing will probably be sitting on the Sea wall sipping a beer, and trying to catch the odd CG on camera while my long suffering OH drives me around...)
  16. Just playing, it's the best potential we've had in a while, so there's heaps to be excited about. I might wear my lucky storm chasing *ahem* Garments.
  17. Keep rocking the reverse psychology and you might just get lucky!
  18. woohooo!!!! I might even unpack some of my camera gear for it and take a drive to the sea wall!
  19. Yes, it's widely believed that changes in Barometric pressure cause headaches, I'm a bit sensitive to pressure changes - don't tend to feel it so much over here, but definitely in the US on the big Storm days I got a horrible 'Tornado Headache'
