  1. Cold sleety rain here for about two hours or so, I just went outside and the clouds are now blowing in a completely different direction to earlier. Still breezy but nothing like earlier this week.
  2. Met O warnings have been updated folks Snow included! but I don't think for our neck of the woods. Wind is still a feature. http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/se/se_forecast_warnings.html Wrap up warm! I am just waiting see what the BBC will say during the news.
  3. Well, although it's still bright outside, and the wind is less gusty carnage and more breezy, it's FREEZING outside. That wind has a proper bite to it. Temp at 6.5c, but the wind is taking it down a few pegs I would think!!! Doesn't look like we'll get too much in the way of showers this way, not until later this evening maybe. Waiting with baited breath to see what pans out after the will it/won't it 'situation of Thursday evening, which has totally distracted me from all the cold and snow potential for next week. Talk about blindsided!
  4. Hi folks, everyone still in one piece? I retired about onc- one thirty and slept through everything else... Have a tree down in the road adjacent to me, some garden furniture thrown about downstairs, but at the moment damage seems minimal. Let's see what today brings!
  5. Either I'm getting used to the noise, or I'm in a bitnf a weird lull at the moment. Rain has become lighter, wind is not as fierce. I'm saying this now, my luck the window boxes will be off Down the road any moment..
  6. Same, I've had the lights flickering on and off since about 9.30. Few car alarms going off as well. The garden flat downstairs has potted plant casualties. Torch at the ready...
  7. Anyone see the guy reporting from Mudeford on BBC news at 10 a second ago? Poor fella looked like he was getting lashed. Plus in the background were a load of kids on bikes and people in their cars looking out to sea. Don't take risks folks!(made me chuckle a bit though)
  8. Police helicopter has just flown over here, god I don't envy those guys in this!! Wind is significantly howling (and highlighting all the massive cracks in my kitchen wall) Radar is showing a pretty big pink blob heading in this direction. The rain has been consistent so far, but not torrential.
  9. Yes, the wind has become noticeable here as well. It rained for about half an hour and has stopped again. Few gusts earlier, but now the wind is err, windier, and more sustained. A good measure will be when my boiler pilot light blows out, which it tends to do during the windiest weather.
  10. Has been quiet here until about 10 minutes ago when there was one loud howling gust, Still no rain, although looking at the radar it'll be any minute.
  11. The Highways agency have also put a warning out to drivers for the wind. http://www.highways.gov.uk/news/breakingnews.aspx It wouldn't surprise me if the Dartford bridge is closed, or at least restricted at some point this evening. The combo of Rain and gusty winds will probably incur some fairly nasty driving conditions, especially on the Motorways, M20 springs to mind. Still Blue sky and sunshine here... for now.
  12. Met office warnings have changed again folks: Looks like rain is the bigger factor now... http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/se/se_forecast_warnings.html
  13. Better safe than sorry i guess. I'm not getting knickers in a twist over the latest warnings, the ones for Tuesday have changed three or four times in as many days. very much watching the developments.
  14. Just had the met office warning email. I don't think I've ever seen the whole uk covered before! http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/uk_forecast_warnings.html
  15. Well it's raining pretty darn hard here at the moment and has been for the past 40 minutes or so..... A gentle lumber up before tomorrow evening?
  16. I saw the video! I don't know if there are any 80's kids here that remember the green turtle sandpits we all used to have, but that video reminded me of when our one took off down the rows of gardens during the 87 storm. I'd be quite partial to a snow event too, but I am not sure just how cold the end of the week will be for it. We can keep our fingers crossed! And welcome to anyone new posting today! Jo
  17. At the moment it's looking like another wind event. Over on the model thread there's a lot of speculation around it potentially being more significant than Tuesday, and some ideas pointing to some colder air being sucked down following it, although this will depend on many different factors. I'm not sticking my neck out for snow just yet, more concentrating on not getting blown away! Whatever happens, it'll certainly be a week to watch. Jo
  18. At the moment it looks that It'll start kicking off Monday evening and then through the night clearing Tuesday daytime. (nice and ambiguous!!) The Thursday/Friday event Is looking to be an overnight as well, but we are still 96 hours away, so the beast could do anything between now and Thursday.
  19. My family runs a haulage business and at this point they are waiting on tomorrow night's news from ttheir contractors to confirm cancelling Tuesdays jobs. Yesterday they were told that this was a high possibility. I can't recall this happening in 20 odd years. Even in heavy snowfall events.
  20. If I had outdoors Xmas decorations/lights/signage, based on the models, the discussion and the met o, I would seriously be considering bringing them inside temporarily next week. Of course it might fizzle into nothing, but there's nothing sadder than a broken Santa. Stay safe.
  21. Looking at some of the charts over on the other thread, this could be a quite significant wind event for us folks in these areas. MO have picked up and warned pretty early too, - we didn't have any warnings this way for ex Katia, for example, and that was gusty enough to blow you over. (correct me if I'm wrong though!) It looks as though we'll be seeing a bit more of these feisty windy lows for a while before we get any cold. At least we got out of the massively rubbish mild rut, but it just goes to show you have to be careful what you wish for.... roof tiles aren't cheap!! Tonight, anyway, looks like it's going to be a crispy cold one, I'd not be surprised if it drops to -2 to -3, which is probably the coolest I've had here. Heating on!
  22. Rain petered out here in Beckers, but there are a few decent gusts still. Feels a lot colder already after this mornings relatively mild conditions.
