  1. Hi Andy, I am fully aware of easterles - I have lived through a couple - but they are always progged 7 - 10 days ahead - never come to fruition - and they can be dull cold and grisly affairs this time of year - not always a guarantee of snow. JK
  2. Big snow flakes here in Tongwynlais - starting to settle a little bit as well - how long will it last!! The snow is having it's last hurrah - and nice it is too... JK
  3. It's amazingly stopped raining here - strange silence after the hammering of rain all day. 4.5°C - much too mild - can't see the cold air coming this way and PPN seems to have gone..... JK
  4. Well put - that's the key and theme - any snow will not stick - will just be falling and causing no problems on saturated ground. I am still sceptical though. JK
  5. Looking at the latest Beeb forecast Tony shows extremely little snow until after midnight where it might only be the occasional flurry. Not good! Not that cold tomorrow either - the 'cold' spell this week has been anything but cold. JK
  6. Here we are, right into the reliable - and snow risk completely done for Wales - if an upgrade occurs now it will be minimal. Just cold heavy rain then we are middle of February..... tick, tock..... JK
  7. Well said - I do not see where the straw clutching is - not many posts at all in here today - and those that are, are showing what might happen in a fair light - no straws. JK
  8. Times Square.... http://www.earthcam.com/usa/newyork/timessquare/ JK
  9. Dead in here today - ...... never seen so much tumbleweed.......... JK
  10. Latest Welsh TV forecast not really very good for snow - but I think, even this close it's up in the air. However, my feeling is little snow... JK
  11. The 'snow' that is coming in is not going to be as intense or widespread as first thought - the band is going to be narrow and not that heavy - so it is looking likely to be a surprise if anyone gets even 5cm the way it is being 'watered' down in the intensity. Can see this passing through overnight with little or no evidence next morning (Monday) of it having even existed as a snow band! JK
  12. If you read the warnings properly - they stipulate the word 'potential/risk' - this is not a defninitive 'it will happen' - but a be prepared it 'could' happen. There is a difference you know! JK
  13. Is this because it is not showing what you want to see - if so, thats a rather unfair line. These are qualified weather forecasters and scientists who are applying their experience into what is a difficult scenario. Things will change again over the next 24 hours and then if they show what you want you will say they are great - no you won't, you will just be happy and neglect the negative remark you left. They are doing a hard job and trying to give as much information as they can based on charts to hand at the time. Charts change - not their fault. JK
  14. Mid and South Wales gone off the MetO warnings - higher ground North Wales for Sunday/Monday - oh well, such is life. At least Wales are getting some and it is the northen guys in this Regional forum. Enjoy guys and don't forget to put pictures up etc. We will do likewise down south with the cold heavy rain..... maybe not! JK
  15. GFS looks like it is playing down the event Sunday/Monday and apparent from elevations up northern areas it's a rain event., It is being said to be a mild outlier but not do sure after the BBC are even showing 8°C all day Sunday and we all know that will produce rain..... Hoping for upgrades but I think the warnings are going to be modified for elevation and Southern area taken out. Hope not.... JK
  16. Same here Tony - I am wondering what all the fuss is about the cold - it is seasonal average - thats NOT cold. JK
  17. As much as I love cold and snow etc - As you say Tony, nights like this are enjoyable because it's 'weather' and thats the reason I am on the forum - to enjoy differing forms of weather - except mild anticyclones of boring gloom! JK
  18. Just the very heavy rain here. Could do with a bit of thunder and lightning to brighten things up a bit - excuse the pun! JK
  19. Hi Andy, As it happens, the Met Office were looking for Trainee forecasters anyway so they probably said HR will have you apply etc - as is normal. Here is some of the criteria for these roles as per Met Office website.... Required Standard of Mathematics and Physics for Trainee Forecasters In order to be able to fully benefit from the intensive training programme provided, Trainee Forecasters will need to have ability in Mathematics and Physics to at least AS Level or equivalent and as a guideline should have some understanding of the following areas: Mathematics: Linear algebra and vector calculus Differential and integral calculus Ordinary and partial differential equations Probability theory and statistics Information and communication technology Numerical methods Physics: Fundamentals of mechanics Basic thermodynamics Wave theory/Fluid Motion/Turbulence Basics of electromagnetic radiation/electromagnetism Competence in these areas will be tested during the technical assessment. JK
  20. I wondered when you would creep out the woodwork again. Snowing in Tongwynlais - just a few light flakes though. JK
  21. Must say I am quite surprised - temperature has lifted from -4°C to a balmy +1.4°C - and the BBC Wales weather has snow over South East Wales for a few hours just after midday. I can't see it as the temperature has lifted and when the front comes in it will lift even further. What are the Beeb playing at - probably quite misleading that one. JK
  22. Ah.... you have a crystal ball. What a wonderful bit of nonsensical input to a thread that was. JK
  23. I managed to take today off as well as yesterday in anticipation of it being bad. That is my route to Tongwynlais very early tomorrow morning and if it gets as cold as predicted - will be a bit dicey to say the least! JK
