  1. Lovely scenery there William! Bit different to the fens where I am, much of it below sea level lol. Makes for great viewing of distant lightning and storms though. You can see for absolutely miles!
  2. Same thing happened two weeks ago. I had a high of 24c whilst Paris soared to 37-38c. Paris saw nothing, I saw a MCS..
  3. Nope I haven't myself, that's on some website describing severe weather events that happened each year. I may start up a diary though soon.
  4. I'd imagine it would've been pretty awesome. Think it started up over your way. I just remember it being literally constant strobe lighting with crawlers all over the shop. Think Cambridge got hit mega hard, as did much of Southern, southwestern England and all of the SE quarter.
  5. Surprised this thread isn't busier tbh! This could be quite a severe event through tonight. Level 2's from estofex are quite rare for the UK let's face it! All other models are going for something decent too. Looks as close to a repeat of the 3rd July 1999 as you can get, with a near identical setup.
  6. Will be a case of now casting yet again. Somewhere like Cambridge way into Suffolk could well be the sweet spot where these storms look to mature if they do form. Good luck to all and what a pleasant surprise this is!
  7. Was 7 at the time, now 23, but damn I wish this site and technology existed back then, and had the knowledge I do now! From what I remember, I got woken up, initially too scared to even open my eyes as it sounded that bad. But I remember eventually looking out at it ( as everybody in the house was up and about like OMG!) It was some of the best, clear cut anvil crawlers and CG's I can remember seeing, thinking of it now, quite a bit better than 2 weeks ago. The bloke on that google forum was not wrong about the constant lightning either, I seem to remember the thunder clearing completely, but to the SE and E, it was constant, sky filled with anvil crawlers, CG's, the lot! I recall actually thinking how on earth am I hearing no thunder from this! It was amazing and it has really come back to me how scared and frightened I was I know 'Sprites' on here has got some pictures of that storm too. Surely there must be more people on here in Southern regions that remembered this beast?
  8. Very similar synoptics to what we could see tomorrow happened on the 3rd July 1999 too, which was an absolute cracker here and for many Southern parts. The charts are almost identical! 3rd July 1999: Tomorrow's potential: A little discussion that was google's equivalent to the convective thread took place back then also, which looked quite phenomenal. Link is below. https://groups.google.com/forum/?hl=en#!topic/uk.sci.weather/UIpaIsxpzPU
  9. Estofex got it majorly wrong on the night of the 3rd anyway. A level 2 bust happened in Northern France! I wasn't even in the 50% chance lightning zone either but saw more lightning than many previous years combined! Very unlike them I must say, but just shows the unpredictability of forecasting storms.
  10. Risk is definitely there. Actually looks similar to what we saw nearly 2 weeks ago, albeit less intense and further East. The same or very similar principals, parameters and mechanics are in place as what the 3rd July had looking at it from my view.
  11. Certainly looking likely that this could well be a possible notable event for some. Certainly within the hi res reliable timeframe now. Caution is still remaining with myself however. As we have seen this sort of thing shift eastward at the very last minute on past occurrences, with all the fun and games taking place across the water. Earlier this summer in June being a good example.
  12. Was literally constant here. Numerous places in the fens got struck by lightning too. Quite an astonishing night. Was like watching one of those continental beasts that form over France into Belgium or Germany, except over us on that occasion!
  13. Would be awesome to see another thundery night! 4th July alone though has given me my storm fix for the year! Think I heard more thunder that night than I did throughout 5 years of 2007-12!!
  14. Always remember as a kid, August tending to be the better and most hottest month! Definitely well overdue a cracking August. Some of the best plumes used to happen in that once great month too.
  15. Was on par I'd say! 23rd of July 2013 was awesome here, but more localised in southern areas. The variety of lightning in the July 2013 storm was simply staggering though and lasted 7 hours here!
  16. Certainly looks thundery here. Funny how it didn't feel that thundery last Friday, but we saw the best overnight storm of the decade!
  17. Although similar temperature wise, Paris sees many more thunderstorms on average than London as does Amsterdam. Feels much warmer in general the other side of the water everytime I have been also.
  18. The negativity in here is laughable. Nobody knows what may be one week away. Who would've foreseen the July record being broken on the 1st day of the month, after what looked like endless Northwesterlies would prevail into the month? Best thing to do is to look at the current synoptics and look no more than 90 hours ahead of what is being modelled! Gives a more accurate and less distorted possible outcome.
  19. Witnessed yellow lightning on that isolated possibly dry elevated storm over Northampton last Wednesday in the small hours of the morning. Friday nights beast had pink and lilac coloured along with blue. The thunder along with that was incredibly loud also.
  20. 45c lol. Now that would take some doing! Would be like a 1/200,000 chance of it occurring I'd say though. Sea temps would need to be high enough, uppers would need to be 20c plus for a few days at least and wind direction would need to be slack and continuously S/SE.
  21. Looks like Kent may well get clipped by this plume mass with a few bits of thundery activity soon. Meanwhile, Germany is about to go into meltdown this afternoon probably! That stuff over the SW also looks to head NE over the afternoon, so the Midlands into Lincolnshire don't look too bad this evening perhaps.
