  1. Was almost stunned to see it right there in front of me as soon as I got upstairs! Having been keeping my eye on dark clouds the other side of the house, it was kind of lucky that I went to look the other side! Sure is a brilliant sight to see, so long as it doesn't hit your house haha. They are more common in this part of the country than some might think however. Sleaford back in 2012, Peterborough on 28th July 2005 which also hit moulton in Lincolnshire 30 mins later, tearing the church roof off. Long Sutton, Lincolnshire on the 21st June 2012 too! Plus many more as well. Must be the flat topography round here that has a similar effect to the Midwest I assume.
  2. Here's another from a friend of mine. Wish I'd have been nearer to it to see if there was any debris or damage. Haven't heard anything bad so far.
  3. Already on the storm thread, but I thought I'd share this with the regional folk captured today at 5pm ish
  4. Not sure buddy, went to try and have a look, but then winded itself back upwards! Certainly went down pretty far I reckon. Hopefully someone got a clear shot of it elsewhere!
  5. After a disappointing cool down, there looks to be something of a more standard affair on the horizon. Potential for some half decent homegrown stuff with associated Atlantic lows moving in. A good time of the year to get the best out of diurnal heating.
  6. Towering cumulus to the SE in huntingdon, heading SW'wards, eventually they'll hopefully reach William as raging CB's with tennis ball sized hail, tornadoes and the lot portsdown hill just sparked that shower off by the looks of it!
  7. Sferic activity has died unfortunately, although as expected. Nevertheless, orographical lifting of the downs would be the best bet of sparking something back up if there's a straw left to clutch. Either way, Sussex is now going to get a deluge!
  8. Nowhere near. 9 June 2014 made these current storms look quite standard. A series of MCS's that day affected similar areas where the storms are now and lasted all night from the previous afternoon.
  9. Think it's probably the uninterrupted large fetch over the heated landmass that has helped over there too. They will always have the upper hand over us for storms and always will unfortunately in most cases! Had we have had sun from the word go under today's conditions, we will have undoubtedly seen more activity. Just got unlucky sadly.
  10. Kent and parts of Sussex may well see a few flashes. But given the lack of key ingredients and peak heating having not got underway in time, I personally wouldn't get my hopes up like I would've done years ago. We've had chance after chance today to ignite, and it just hasn't happened. Belgium and France have obviously had the benefits of the sun and insolation. Think we are forgetting that we haven't had a day of 29-32c temps...
  11. If they are surface based, which I think they are, then they will not survive the crossing as the updrafts will be lost from land heating. Some may however wish on a triumph of hope over experience.
  12. Yep, you can count on the channel rouening the storms as ever. Bit of a pain in the Brest...
  13. Surprising really. Given the strength of the jet down there overlapping with all the energy generated, there was bound to be something erupt! That is the ingredient we are missing, the jet stream/shear.
  14. Rain seems much heavier than radar suggests. Nigh on flash flooding here. This rain and showers really are moving slower than a week in clink!!
  15. Would've only been 3 when this happened. I do remember very far back as a nipper being incredibly scared a few times though. This may well have been one of them. It really isn't just selective memory!
  16. May 2006 got off to a cracker I'm sure too, especially for Scotland on May 10th that year. Remember my Scottish family calling saying they've never seen anything like it, up in Ayrshire.
  17. What a day that was. May have been the remnants of that storm that then mutated into US style supercells in Lincolnshire later that day!
  18. Still really warm here with the sun out. Very hazy to the south however with that approaching band, which is now extending out towards the Low Countries. Would be good to see something brew up over that way and get a light show off EA later.. Noticed a small but very potent looking cell on radar cropped up in the channel judging by rainfall rate. Could get quite silly on the Isles of Scilly if that hits, which currently looks like doing!
  19. Got my eye on that small shower making landfall on The Essex coast. Hopefully it will intensify..
  20. Wow, very nice outside! Meanwhile, has anyone seen that somehow a storm erupted in the North Sea which was off the Yorkshire coast and is now set to possibly hit Aberdeen..! Couldn't make it up lol. They'll be saying haar haar big time if they get anything soon!
  21. Heads up Dorset folk if you're up, kicking off now, a number of strikes detected over the channel. Surprised none of the other cells have electrified yet either.
  22. I hope William is up!! Looks to be right over his house lol another cell seems to be intensifying north of the Channel Islands, worth keeping an eye on.
  23. Dorset and the Isle of Wight and parts of Hampshire look to have the best chance at the moment, should the showers make it. What a chase I had earlier though, 2 cracking storms one after the other. Noticed the news chopper capturing the vardy party disappeared for a while too! Think the energy generated inside the King power stadium must've helped too
