  1. Well, it's made it!! Might well be a longer night up than I thought. Will be looking for distant flashes now to the east. North Sea crud is still absent thank god.
  2. Wow. It's certainly one that I have not forgotten! It wasn't your typical average storm either that's for sure. It was more like cracking pink crawlers at quite a rate! Glad you remembered it.
  3. Nevertheless, this is a very rare event. Cannot remember a single storm from the East/Northeast here apart from one time in summer 2003 I think, late evening time (21:00-22:00). Was very astounded at how active it was too, and even as a youngster thinking how unusual it was to see storms roll in from the east, as opposed to the south or the west. Remember watching it from my east facing window and then move west over towards Leicester and Rutland. Have not seen the like since, not even close. Does anyone on here have any memories of it?
  4. Isn't just me that thinks it feels ever so humid, even with a stiff northeasterly. Very unusual indeed.
  5. Still going strong lol. Good thing is, it isn't typically heading NE, but westwards for a change! So we can be hopeful at least haha.
  6. My lord if that holds out and crosses the North Sea in tact, we could be in for a rare treat. Beast from the east!! Look at the strike rate on that system over Germany and the Netherlands!!
  7. looks like it would be very similar to 19/06/2005. The exact areas you mentioned saw supercells that day. Lightning count would've been off the scale on that day I'm sure too, maybe rivalling 2012's 64,000. Read somewhere the other day that cloud tops got down to -60 and tops overshot to 45,000 ft!! Remember North Yorkshire being on the news about the severity of the flash flooding. Someone also saying that they saw the cloud tops over Macclesfield and Cheshire from Hampshire!
  8. Think we need to wait until at least next week to see something proper. Something like 19th June 2005, 28th June 2012 or 3rd July last year will get me out chasing.
  9. Would've chased, but got a lot of work on at the moment! Also what's the betting that when I'm in Spain, the MCS of the century we've all been waiting for will happen LOL.
  10. I concur with you. I've seen lightning as far as the IOW and Dorset from north Cambridgeshire! Best part of 200 miles away.
  11. The way the cookie crumbles sometimes. Think that's bad? I drove to Kent to intercept cells crossing from Calais area, only to have diminished as soon as I arrived 2 and a half hours later. A bust or two will never kill off my hobby though, it's just the way it goes sometimes.
  12. Latest FI run showing pretty much an exact carbon copy of the 9th June 2014. Interestingly I fly back from Spain on the 9th at around 19:00 over CAPE exceeding 3000-4000j/kg and -13 LI's on that run. Wouldnt want to think what it would be like in all honesty!!
  13. The things I'd do to see a similar event this year. Here's what I got from that night!
  14. Basically a write off except the extreme South. Looking nowhere near as good now. We need to see the jet over France extend northwards, along with the troughing to the west of Portugal. Meanwhile, storm going nuts over Milton Keynes towards Luton. Surrey, watch out for this one!
  15. Cheers mate. Heard distant rumbles earlier on, as soon as I clocked onto it, it diminished as quick as it started! Typical pulse storms as we've seen all season pretty much so far. Only seems to be them ones that clipped the southeast two days ago that had any longevity to them. The ingredients have just not collaborated together thus far to give decent, reliable storms!
  16. Can't see today being a decent one, just the usual flash and fart scenarios and then it's over. Swear there used to be a time when pm northwesterlies gave us some decent and potent daytime storms! Later this week was looking good, but recently it's been ebbing away and questionable as to whether it'll even get across the channel now. Off to Spain on the 5th June, so hopefully I'll see some decent action down there.
  17. Beginning to kick off over towards Cambridge way into Norfolk.
  18. Because of the steering winds aloft and available energy to feed off that's stored on the French landmass! Always happens 9 times out of 10.
  19. Yes mate feel free to sunday looking quite interesting to me at the moment. Will be keeping an eye on the runs as we get nearer.
  20. Was almost stunned to see it right there in front of me as soon as I got upstairs! Having been keeping my eye on dark clouds the other side of the house, it was kind of lucky that I went to look the other side! Sure is a brilliant sight to see, so long as it doesn't hit your house haha. They are more common in this part of the country than some might think however. Sleaford back in 2012, Peterborough on 28th July 2005 which also hit moulton in Lincolnshire 30 mins later, tearing the church roof off. Long Sutton, Lincolnshire on the 21st June 2012 too! Plus many more as well. Must be the flat topography round here that has a similar effect to the Midwest I assume.
  21. Here's another from a friend of mine. Wish I'd have been nearer to it to see if there was any debris or damage. Haven't heard anything bad so far.
