  1. Really enjoyed today. Been quite easy chasing these storms, just following the convergence zone northwards! Was interesting how the one over Huntingdon developed. Actually watched the updrafts brew it up and then all hell let loose!! Started off as rapidly rising small cumulus with very strong winds as they passed over me, deviating very quickly to gusty SE winds preceded by inflow type northerlies.
  2. Just driven through marble sized hail after seeing an incredible multiple bright white fork striking less than half a mile ahead! Astonishing stuff! But quite scary. A1 at alconbury. Just witnessed what sounded like a bomb went off in sawtry 10 mins ago too. Alarms going off and fire brigade out!! Knocked the 3G network out along with it aswell. What a day this is turning out to be!
  3. Sat at godmanchester now. So much converging winds. One wind farm to the south is converting southeasterlies whilst the one over towards Brampton is converting northerlies!! Heard a few low rumbles too.
  4. sat in Cambridge services. Skies looking menacing to the south now. Pity I've been busy otherwise I'd have been heading to east Anglia. Saw the beauty happening there rising up to the east going along the A14 earlier on. Believe this may be the convergence zone kicking off. Getting pretty black now!
  5. Off to Cambridge today. Got a feeling that may be the sweet spot today. Looks slap bang in the middle of the risk zone!
  6. Looking much more decent for our end of the woods today I must say.
  7. Is that towards the west of borough. I'm seeing the same thing. It's been rapidly trying to rise already!
  8. Can see this being a better day already for eastern parts. The sun has been out from the word go, whereas yesterday at this time now, we was under that heavy rainfall from the stubborn front that is now over Northumberland. More widespread activity looks possible. Sat24 showing lots of clear skies from East Yorkshire, York and Lancashire southwards
  9. Noticed that myself lol. Looking like they were having a midweek booze up!
  10. Yep, goodness me that's a big one erupted out of nowhere heading up towards Groningen and the German border. It really is the channel I think. Having that uninterrupted fetch from Holland/Belgium all the way down to the Pyrenees is what makes the difference from what I've seen over the years. Amazingly some hefty showers are still firing up across the Midlands! Pretty impressive
  11. Is that what it is? I thought thats what helps elevated storms get going and destabilises a plume, but not sfc based conditions?
  12. Lightning now near Northampton. What's causing these cells to keep on going. DLS?
  13. No kidding, I'm sure I can see that cell from here in Cambs :O ! Huge cumulonimbus calvus on the horizon!
  14. At Huntingdon right now. Convergence front has fragmented earlier, but very dark to the SW heading straight for here, looks like it may drop a bolt if it holds out and develops further.
  15. As a storm chaser, sometimes you've got to go the distance for the best. August the 22nd last summer, aimed to go 30 miles down the road, ended all the way up in North Yorkshire!! I'd say aim for the M4 if I were you
  16. Yep, not quite at the right time of the year yet. End of May through to August is when this type of setup is at its most ripe. July the 4th last year being a textbook example. Nevertheless, still not doing too bad for so early on in the season
  17. May see the odd spark over E Anglia with that stuff exiting the Benelux, chances are pretty low I'd say though. Tomorrow looks like the interesting day. More opportunities by the looks of things further into the week too.
  18. Definitely with you on that one. There's a muggy feel to the air tonight. Which in my view is welcomed in open arms! Just started raining here with convective drops. This weather setup is by far my favourite in the UK by a mile, even more so when all the right parameters are in place. Low pressure cut off to the SW scooping up unstable muggy air from the SSE is the best recipe for those proper thunderstorms. Not what we saw last week!
  19. Feeling warm in the fens here! Quite a hazy sky and looks to be towering cumulus starting to form. This evening could be interesting.
  20. southern coastal counties could see similar to what happened yesterday later on it seems. Potential imports from NE France and BeNeLux for east Anglia and Kent later on too. It isn't looking too bad for mid April I must say!!
