  1. Gaston has strengthened again to 120mph. NHC calling it's satellite presentation outstanding (big eye, symmetrical ring of convection). I agree with Singularity that were this further south it would probably have gone annular.
  2. Hurricane Madeline will narrowly miss the big Island while a category 2 hurricane. Hurricane warning issued for Hawaii.
  3. Gaston has also now made the turn NE so from here on it will interact with the mid-lattitude westerlies.
  4. Still a tad messy but the LLC is under the convection and the NHC now brings it to 60mph.
  5. Ha. Confused with TD9. Certainly an attractive hurricane, almost textbook.
  6. I'm finding the GFS high quite interesting. It's interesting to see that it's already generating cooler uppers that could back west if the Atlantic is weaker.
  7. NHC will issue advisories on Tropical Depression 9 from 10pm UK time. Most models suggest a strong TS/category 1 into the Panhandle.
  8. As suspected given how good it looks, Gaston is now a category 2 hurricane with sustained winds of 105mph.
  9. 91L has become Tropical Depression 8. Bit of a namewaster but it might bring some rain to the Carolina's.
  10. Gaston is chugging along with little to prevent strengthening over the next 48-72 hours. Forecast to peak at 110mph.
  11. Mid level circulation is strongest around 77W, the question will be whether it can stack itself there.
  12. Center is still being sheared with the convection being east but it's actually done okay today. Does anybody know if recon are on route, we were due a flight i think.
  13. Can't say i'm optimistic for this system, since it's peak two days ago over the Leeward Islands we've seen sustained degradation. Right now this wave axis (and a new center if one forms is located near the convection north of Haiti however there are only south and east winds and convection is not terribly impressive. If this does not look better in 24 hours, i'll abandon 99L.
  14. 2012 was the last time August was the warmest summer month.
