  1. Sounds great Isaac, I'm envious. Rain here along the M4 corridor.
  2. Sorry... I'm a few miles south of the M4, quite close to Reading. 0.8c and lots of rain here!
  3. Are you on the coast Snowfan or inland with some altitude to help?
  4. Yes Joneseye we have been truly blessed!! More to come next week with of luck?
  5. Yes great photos - very dramatic especially the last one!
  6. Although not in Newbury I'm off to your SE near Tadley and measured 8cm of new snow an hour or so ago.
  7. Just been out and measured the snow that fell overnight. An unexpected 7cm!! which has topped up the lying snow very nicely back up to 22cm lying on our lawn. Still snowing very lightly. Southwest trains having a chaotic time with service from Basingstoke to Waterloo currently suspended -- doesn't take much for Uk to grind to a halt does it?
  8. Quite a temp differential across our region then. Temp here is 0.6c I remain confident that we'll get snow in this area later tonight and tomorrow morning - albeit light
  9. I don't envisage getting much at all from this up her in hampshire. At least you'll get some good falls up on Dartmoor. Jump in your car, head up on the moor and hours of fun! I was at Plymouth Poly in the 80s and remember many snowy moorland adventures followed by a beer or two at the plume of feathers in Princetown.
  10. Yuk!! I hate drizzle!! Dry here today after an extra 1cm of snow falling overnight to freshen up the lying snow. I'm hoping for a bit more late tomorrow night.
  11. The inaccurate forecasting of this latest snow event got me thinking about what we as taxpayers are spending our money on. Given that models such as GFS and ECMWF give amateur forecasters the ability to forecast as well as the expensive Met office is it time that we drasticaly cut their size, budget and scope? The annual budget is around £82.3 million The Met Office justify this budget by the cost savings that their forecasts provide, including; Lives saved and casualties avoided Properties protected Seems to me that some forecasters on this site could provide an equivalent service for a tiny fraction of the cost.
  12. Has anyone had snow lying from the light overnight precipitation?? Nothing more on the ground here in north hampshire -- temp is now +1c and there seems to be a gradual thaw going on. All very weird. Lots and lots of snow still on the ground, but I have to say I prefer the cold, clear dry weather we've been having to this mild, dull drizzly stuff.
  13. We just need to be patient! It'll get here and top things up nicely + a bit of drifting on top! Channel 4 has got some live racing from Lingfield park (near Crawley Gatwick)- the snow has really started chucking down in the last half hour or so.
  14. Yes .. very very lucky Trouble is that must be our lot for the next 20yrs ---can't see that we can get more.. that'd be greedy! It's snowing fairly heavily at the moment!
  15. Thanks Paul ... not wishing to be greedy but can you pull Basingstoke out of the hat again for a top-up in a few days time. 19cm at the mo and snowing moderately
  16. Half that here --just been out in my PJs and measured 19cm on the patio. It's still snowing so hope to add at least another 5cm to that today.
  17. 14 cm here and still chucking it down 100% snow in north hampshire -- fan.. bl...dy tastic !!!! a few worries about my power and phone lines though ...sagging a bit with all the snow!
  18. Yes ... incredible here. I'm in Bramley, a few miles north of Basingstoke. Now 13 cm on the patio and still chucking it down. I'd say we've got more now than we did the week before Christmas when all the cars were abandoned in the Basingstoke /Reading area. I see that the BBC are broadcasting from Stratfield Turgis....good call given all the snow we've got and the proximity of the Wellington Arms for their hot cocoa and comfy nights sleep.
  19. 11cm outside on my patio here in north hampshire - note PJs don't offer much protection from snow/cold I saw on the news that the BBC news have a team broadcating just a mile or so up the road from me in Stratfield Turgis. I wonder why they chose that location?? They'll be "slumming it" in the Wellington Arms. http://www.innforanight.co.uk/wellingtonthink.html Still snowing here.
  20. Hi freddie I'm in Bramley. Looking at the radar the edge of this snow band must be not far from the western side of Tadley -- where are you?
  21. I'm not that far from you ... (just to the north of Basingstoke) and its bucketing down with snow here -- roads and fields already well covered
  22. Now Heavy snow -- The countryside here is now completely white!
  23. Just started snowing here in north hampshire (8 miles south of Reading/ 5 miles north of Basingstoke) Moderate ... 100% snow and the road outside my house is now white after just a few mins of snow
  24. and is moving north through hampshire !! My shovel is at the ready!
  25. Dorset 20cm, Hampshire 18cm , Berkshire 14cm, IOW 9cm not in the comp but I'll put Wiltshire top with 24cm What's the prize then Stoxs??
