  2. Bramley 7 miles south of Reading ....we have had 4 rumbles of thunder and moderate rain
  3. Very dark and a couple of rumbles here in N Hampshire. I think we're on the western fringe of the action. Am contemplating jumping in the car and heading east into west sussex.
  4. A few large glasses of wine are helping my confidence levels!
  5. Really kicking off over Biscay....these will head our way overnight
  6. 25c and the sun has come out. Lovely evening here...time for a beer on the patio I think. Looking forward to seeing lots of lightning strikes starting to show up in an hour or two.

  8. I'm 7 miles south of Reading ....the nearest I've had to thunder today is a low flying jet. Suspect that Reading thunder is of a similar type!
  9. Hope this story doesn't have a sad ending Although a trip home with the RNZAF isn't going to happen with it being winter down south I'd hope that they could point him/her in the right direction ... surely even Stewart Island would be a help. http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=10733850
  10. Another aftershock for Christchurch area 5.3 http://tvnz.co.nz/national-news/reports-damage-after-5-3-aftershock-hits-canterbury-4254159
  11. Interesting ...and seems to be being picked up by quite a few in the press. I can't wait for the Express headlines! Some however believe that even if we are heading towards a Grand Minimum it will not trigger colder weather. Can't see how it could fail to have an impact myself?? http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2011/06/110614-sun-hibernation-solar-cycle-sunspots-space-science/
  12. Is he going to be presenting?? Next time I'm out I'll look out for his pronunciation of Maori placenames ...could be interesting! Never really took to his style myself, especially his adversion to cold weather!! .....and he's heading into the NZ winter....a posting to Invercargill perhaps??
  13. Presumably this is the forecast picked up in the Telegraph today. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/topics/weather/8519064/Hot-dry-summer-in-store-say-forecasters.html With Netweather quoted as predicting a hot dry summer!!! Fame at last! we're up there with Piers Corbyn et al, now we just need the Express to pick up the story Perhaps I should wheel out the BBQ now?.......
  14. Hi JO7 ...what are the long range forecasts predicting for the autumn/winter? Is there any sort of consensus? I was in Auckland in early to mid April and had some great weather... including one stunning day on Bethells beach! Not bad weather here in the UK today with a fair bit of sunshine... but no beach!
  15. Increased radiation coming from plant....and the wind going around to the north/northwest which could blow any fallout towards the Tokyo region. Not good.
  16. At least the weather is on their side regarding the Fukushima plant. Currently a strong southerly breeze at Futaba (Closest town to plant) veering to a westerly overnight, which would take any fallout out to sea. http://weather.weatherbug.com/Japan/Futaba-weather.html
  17. Yes I'm hearing that walls and roof of a building at the plant have been destroyed in explosion. Probably not the reactor itself?? ...but v serious.
  18. At least North-eastern Hokkaido is one of the more sparsely populated areas of Japan.
  19. Shocking pictures on the TV here ....why has the impact of this quake been so much greater than the previous stronger quake?
  20. Glad that you and your family are OK Scarf-Carrot-Coal. Shocking pictures coming out on the TV here.....Hopefully my friends In Christchurch are OK ...Some working out at the University others in town.
  21. Where can I find a link to N American charts?? Mrs Kiwi is off to New York, then Chicago on a business trip. Going this Sunday and coming back the following Friday. Ice and snow don't sound good for a smooth hassle free trip. Does she need to go equipped with a couple of tennis rackets??!
  22. At least it hit a fairly sparsely populated area ...off in the far SW corner of Pakistan, close to the Afghan/Iran borders.
  23. Sounds unpleasant!! No wonder you're awake. What's the forecast like for today (Wednesday)?
  24. You never know?! ....good job you weren't around in 1908!! http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/features/understanding/1908_snowstorm.shtml .... there's a thought ....a good 3 months to go yet for the cold fans amongst us!
