  1. I'm not sure where you are Ali, but up here in N Hampshire temps are meant to drop below 0c around 7pm but dewpoints not below 0c until around 10pm. So my guess is no chance of snow until after 10pm unless the Dps dip earlier than this....and of course we need some precipitation to turn up!
  2. Keeping an eye on the numerous hefty showers coming down the Irish sea and off the SW of Scotland. According to the NMM they're heading towards central southern England ...as the warm sector moves away and DP drops some could fall as a dusting of snow this evening/tonight. (Its called grasping at straws!)
  3. Yes, it's a bit of a mess out there. Likewise here we had snow when DP was sub 0c, then rain, some of it heavy with DP getting up to +0.6c. Now rain and snow and DP back down slightly to +0.4c Who knows what this evening/night will bring!
  4. Rain pepped up nicely here......washing away all that nasty, nasty snow DP +0.5c
  5. Great turn of phrase that...."snowmantics" ....I love it!
  6. Writing is on the wall I think. I'm not far west of you and the dewpoint has shot up from -0.6c at 10am to 0c at 11am. I'm now just waiting for the rain to wash away our light covering of snow. Edit: Now raining, 11.10am, It'll be icy out there tomorrow morning.
  7. Thanks Snow Crystal, good advice. My older kids just humour me!You live in a great part of the uk for rare but special snow events! Good luck for later this week. I lived in Dousland as a baby back in 1960s and my dad tells regular stories of being trapped in snowstorms when he was over here on secondment from NZ navy.
  8. Gutted!! My 5yr old has just woken up and in a very sleepy voice asked "Daddy, how much snow will there be in the morning?" Not much I said. But expectations are there because of my irresponsible ramping and I' m feeling v guilty!
  9. GFS forecast dewpoint for Liverpool was -1c at 12z while the actual recorded at Liverpool airport was 0c at 12z. My guess is that everything is an hour or two ahead of schedule. Coversely the dewpoint and ground temps in Belfast are actually a couple of degrres lower than forecast. Perhaps the warm sector isn't quite as warm as predicted thus increasing the snow risk for some in our region.
  10. Yes I'd been wondering the same ...Purple Rain? Prince?...all those hazy nights at Monroes in Plymouth...years and years ago come flooding back. (Is it still there?) ...seriously though what are the purple bits??
  11. SE Regional thread?? ..... I could jump ship...being in the east of our region. But I'm sticking here and expect a more upbeat outlook when the models start to move in the Southwest's favour. They seem to be having a real problem with the jet at the moment but a weakening/more southerly track will sort us out ...no worries. PS; Just had a quick peak at the SE thread ....far too jovial ....I suspect they're all posting from the pub, what with it being Poets day.
  12. Yep ...shaping up to be very interesting with some marginal snowfall events. I see that you're near Alton ...why not head a few minutes up the A31 to Four Marks ..the small increase in altitude (220m) could make all the difference!
  13. An article by Matt Hugo here for the AA re the weather this weekend. http://www.theaa.com/emergency-breakdown-blog/index.jsp Everyone still guessing which way things will go after the weekend....,.I'm a bit more optimistic about movement from the GFS after looking at the 6z... it's moved the jet further south around 144hr ...maybe it will continue to do so on the12z and 18z
  14. Nice work ...best to be vague rather than having egg on your face! Most of the permutations, even the milder ones, seem to favour something wintery over the Cotswolds this weekend. You could always dangle that carrot in front of them ....although I suppose if they drive up there and we get one of the colder snowier outcomes they might not make it back again! (could be perfect for some carefully selected colleagues!!)
  15. Yes, as you say two in a row now. Not only am I worried about our snowfest but the prospect of persistent southwesterlies with heavy rain would be a concern re renewed flooding.
  16. Yes Iceberg, as you say all very possible that it could stall further south. We're still talking about 90 hours out, so only very tiny adjustments would be needed! ......but then again I have to keep telling myself that there is still plenty of opportunity for the whole lot to go pear shaped and once more leave us in a dreaded and prolonged southwesterly rainfest.
  17. Two channel lows delivering the goods for us in the south!!..... in the latest ECM 0z output ...at 144 (nearish FI) and 216hrs (FI)
  18. Not good for my old ticker this model watching! The GFS 0z gives me near heart failure with its downgrades as I woke at 4.30am for a peek. Now palpitations over my toast and tea as I gaze lovingly at the ECM 0z. Something for everyone I think ...easterlies, a couple of channel lows and then to cap it all a decent northerly!
  19. Just to say thanks for the various snow info for my Christmas trip to Russbach (Dachstein West), Austria. I can confirm, that although relatively mild for the time of year we had plenty of snow....enough to ski on and enough to make our driveway as challenging as an icy black run!(steep although doesn't show on photo) Christmas eve....from what I've been told ...a bit brighter than back in blighty!
  20. Grey and misty here in Northern Hampshire. It'd be nice to get a few glimmers of sunshine this afternoon. As to snow Divadee ...next weekend and beyond is beginning to look promising, particularly for those of us towards the east of the region.
  21. Incredible day...like March, warm, blue sky, sun and snow. Beats soggy hampshire! Snow still good but icy in the morning......at least it's falling below 0c each night despite what gfs might be saying. I would post photos but my iPad isn't cooperating.
  22. Cervina .....always fancied going there. A much overlooked skiing area amongst the Brits I think. I'll be interested to hear your thoughts ...enjoy, and fingers crossed for some cooler weather!

  24. As far as I'm aware sadly it's the off piste depth
