  1. Not if you want to catch a train!!...Is the entire rail network run by bufoons?
  2. Yes likely to get worse. If you look at the SW thread it seems that Somerset is being battered at the moment so those of us to the east of Somerset can expect more to come.
  3. Seven stones light ship ....pressure drop of 6.4mb over last 2 hrs 985.9mb at 2200
  4. K1 Buoy dropped 2.8mb in last hour, now 995.1 (15.00hrs) http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/marine/observations/map.html
  5. What sort of rate of pressure fall are we expecting for this system? Pressure at the K1 buoy has dropped 3.6mb in the past 2 hours. Does this sound about right/higher/lower than expected ?
  6. http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/marine/observations/map.html Link to hourly updated data from wave buoys. PAP has started falling ....dropped 1.8mb in the last hour
  7. Ok, so probably less windy than originally forecast and talk of 87 and cobra meetings seems ott. But in the south we are still looking at high winds, heavy rain on already saturated ground and lots of trees still in full leaf. Sure, it won't be armageddon but as the Met Office point out I suspect there will be trees down and a fair bit of traffic and power disruption come the Monday morning rush hour.
  8. Mini troops in the Kiwi household have had alert status lowered Chainsaw and Camping stove returning to barracks .......Apple Corers and Peelers standing to in preparation for a glut of windfalls tomorrow morning.
  9. Jill Attenborough, of the Woodland Trust, said 15 million UK trees fell in 1987 !!!! Makes me more than a little concerned!! Even 1/10th of that number falling will cause chaos on Monday
  10. Good point Snow Joke. Look at this map showing a concentration of ash dieback cases in Kent and East Anglia
  11. Friends due to fly out from Heathrow 9am Monday morning. Not good I suspect with cancellations and delays almost inevitable on a busy and v windy Monday morning. I suspect crosswinds are the greatest issue for airports. Heathrow has two East-West runways. Does anyone know if there are set parameters for takeoff/landings at Heathrow?
  12. Computer says ..."Be Prepared", so as well as an afternoon out with the kids, and trying to drag myself away from the laptop and netweather ...I suppose It'd be prudent to do as the met office suggest. Without going overboard, I'm thinking of a recce around the garden to secure bits and bobs etc, getting torches, candles, and matches sorted and sharpening my chainsaw. Any other ideas?
  13. Strong winds, heavy rain and the trees still in leaf. Falling trees could be very disruptive for road and rail.
  14. But the Daily Express and Mr Powell say........ http://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/438817/Lightning-strikes-as-biggest-storm-since-1987-sweeps-in
  15. The sun was shining this afternoon....roof down...and brained by an acorn!! I think I'll leave (my wife's) soft-top at home come Monday and revert to the clapped out people carrier ....or if "hurricane" St Jude really does become the perfect storm I'll simply stay put.
  16. The ECM has been decent over the last few winters when it comes to picking up on the development of European high pressures .....so I'll be watching the next few runs with renewed interest.
