  4. Yes a blue sky day without wind would be very nice please!! I've done a long weekend winter Munro's trip for the last 5 years. Of the 20 odd mts I've "bagged" on those trips I've not seen blue sky at the top of any of them. Last year was close..... 3/4 of the way up Ben Lawers, blue sky and sunshine......but sods law... the howling gale made it impossible to get to the top.
  5. Looks like the arctic "freeze" is gaining momentum. http://www.themoscowtimes.com/business/article/russia-starts-building-military-bases-in-the-arctic/506650.html
  6. Wow ....is this not unusually early?? A long winter ahead?
  7. How about Lund in Sweden ??......GREAT FOR SNOW!! A top university and they teach in English My sister went there ...medicine ....and really enjoyed it. http://www.lunduniversity.lu.se/
  8. As the arctic becomes increasingly ice free is it likely to become immersed in territorial disputes as nations fight for the natural resources? Putin has said today "Our interests are concentrated in the Arctic. And of course we should pay more attention to issues of development of the Arctic and the strengthening of our position there." Putin is proposing significant military and economic expansion in the Arctic. ....and given his current track record I don't see Mr Putin adhering to international law or any Un conventions. Looks like the arctic is heating up in more ways than one!
  9. More good stuff from our Nathan! should we be stocking up on fire lighters and umbrellas?
  10. ....and lightning. wind picking up a bit, but no more than breezy. Steady rain with some heavier bursts mixed in.
  11. Looks like plenty of wet stuff incoming for us later today. Cloudy and v humid at the mo. I've heard that its grim up north!
  12. Looking at the traffic cams I can't see anything laying in Christchurch. It does look to be settling around Dunedin http://www.nzta.govt.nz/traffic/current-conditions/webcams/dunedin.html
  13. Hot sunshine since early morning here in central southern england.....breeze has got up in the last couple of hours
  14. Likewise Blizzards beautiful day on the Lizard. We're in Coverack for the half term week. Could not get over the perfect blue sky and hot sunshine today when others to our east have had to endure such rubbish. Will we get any more sunshine this week?
  15. From our friend Nathan:...... "Torrid for all" apparently http://inagist.com/all/464145392293384193/
  16. If you want rain you've come to the right regional thread. We'll send some on to you!
  17. I can't see any timings on these.....do you have any? My son is off on a half-term school ski trip and they're booked on Friday's 23.15 Dover to Calais ferry. He's a good sailor, but he'll need to be!!......I've told him to expect delays/cancellations and will be packing him off with travel sickness tablets and a large capacity strong carrier bag etc
  18. For now ...but models suggest heavier pulses of rain later today affecting Somerset and much of the rest of sodden southern England ....on and off right through until midnight
  19. Have you broached the subject of names with your wife?........I'm sure she'll be fine with "Storm"
