  1. Hi Chris, I saw that the Met service are forecasting 33c on Monday, though the night temps are looking way lower. Enjoy the sunshine!....its grey and gloomy here in the UK.
  2. Interesting insight of the day to day effects of El Nino on New Zealand weather. http://www.weatherwatch.co.nz/content/el-ni%C3%B1o-update-mondays-weather-video I'm heading out on Friday for 10 days and looks like I'll be greeted by wet and windy weather when I land in Auckland on Saturday. Best I pack a waterproof along with my shorts and jandals.
  3. Yes, October looks like it could be very dry, particularly inthe south east. I see that the Met bureau have issued a special update to their Oct-Dec outlook, which highlights the unusually dry conditions expected through the month. http://www.bom.gov.au/climate/ahead/archive/outlooks/latest-outlook.shtml Obviously doesn't bode well for the bushfire season.
  4. Yes this would seem the more likely cause to me ....north atlantic drift slows down leaving warmer waters closer to the gulf ie; along the eastern atlantic seaboard of US (warm anomaly). Meanwhile the north atlantic is getting much less warm water fed up to it and consequently cools down (cold anomaly).
  5. And not just the tabloids...... Just received this email from the energyhelpline.com!! Meteorologists are warning that the El Nino phenomenon could see a dramatic change of fortunes for the UK this winter, with mild weather replaced by freezing temperatures. With this year’s El Nino the strongest since 1950..............etc, etc (see below) Will El Nino bring a cold winter to the UK this year.pdf
  6. Thanks Styx...a fabulous video....I had no idea that the Tasmanian Mts were so beautiful
  7. Beautiful !!!.....twas grey and dreary down south. Midges??
  8. Computer says ...49.79mm of rain for me (near Tadley, Hampshire) between 13.00 and 16.00 tomorrow!!
  9. Hi Darren, yes hopefully a sweet spot here. I don't know the Reading Lakes Hotel, but we've had several significant flooding issues around here over the years. Aldermaston village, just outside Tadley, is prone. More seriously, I see that AWE Burghfield have a planning application in for a flood defence scheme following previous serious flooding and regular problems every time we have exceptional rainfall...... More than a tad worrying as that's where they assemble/maintain Trident nuclear warheads........Hopefully the only big bangs around here on Thur and Fri will be the thunder!!
  10. Snowy Tasmania Hi Styx......Going by the photos, some places have seen snow down to sea level... anything on the ground at Battery point?
  11. I've forwarded this one to the Express for their urgent attention. http://www.news.com.au/world/brekkie-wrap-earth-heading-for-mini-ice-age-within-15-years/story-fndir2ev-1227439367667
  12. Happy if that comes off! .....I'll go a tad further west.... Wales, then into far east of Somerset, before exiting over Christchurch in Dorset
  13. Clear sky and a light frost here. No snow showers overnight .....and thankfully no rain ...yuck! Bang on 1.0c
  14. mmm, yes all very ..very underwhelming; all the cold without the snow seems so pointless! Likewise, looking forward to 2 weeks in Fuerteventura (Cotillo/Lajares) last week of March ...always reliable for a good dose of sunshine, strong breeze and even stronger G&Ts....can't wait! and hoping to return to a long, hot, v early spring ---summer. Edit: Although they all seem v excited on the MOD re the pub run GFS ....maybe I should'nt be so pessimistic
  15. Benson sits on top of sandy soil which doesn't hold heat as well as other soil types. It is also situated at the bottom of the Chilterns in a dip, so cold air tends to drain into it and gather there.
  16. Benson reporting -6c at 21.50. -3.3c here in rural..ish N Hampshire
  17. Yes ...I'm remaining positive! Too early to write off this potential cold spell yet. Especially with Rachel still passing through UK (storm centre is only now just to NW of Scotland and isn't forecast to move off towards Norway until this evening) I've often noticed marked changes in the models once a significant storm passes through.......so I'm hoping for upgrades come the 18z GFS
  18. M4 buoy reported 9mb fall in 2hr period 1300 to 1500 ...down to 972mb at 1500 http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/marine-observations/#?tab=last24hoursMarine&marineLocId=162093&fcTime=1421107200
  19. We certainly don't need any more rain around here. The fields are already sodden and I don't imagine that's going to help in keeping the trees upright when they're hit by hefty gusts. I can see there being a lot of disruption, especially on the railways come tomorrow morning.
  20. at least a 9 here for myself and my 3 boys. but sadly only a 2 for Mrs Kiwi who'd rather be basking in 30C sunshine.
  21. Perhaps, if we all clubbed together, we could send "Fleet street's finest" to somewhere really cold....Siberia perhaps?
  22. Note for Diary .....30th November Nathan expects a full written apology, once you've dug yourself out of the 20ft snow drifts to reach the postbox.
  23. Carinthian; Looking outside at a grey gloomy Hampshire I wouldn't be too unhappy at blazing sunshine ...even if it is melting the early snow. What is the forecast looking like for you? Am I right in thinking that a cold Russia should help cool things down in your part of Austria? Just seen this article today suggesting a 35 year cold spell for Russia! http://www.themoscowtimes.com/news/article/russia-could-be-facing-35-year-cold-weather-spell-scientist-says/510285.html
