Will we see snow drifts in the channel??
-
Bizarre here, I'm just waiting for the hose pipe ban! No rain, snow or anything vaguely damp all day, despite watching precipitation on the radar pass to my north, south, east and west! Keeping my fingers crossed that the shield fails on Sunday. Current Temp 3.4c DP -0.6c

South West & Central Southern England Regional Discussion 26th January 2013

Is this some strange west country turn of phrase? -
The message isn't welcomed by the masses so we'd rather be in denial. What scientists say about climate change doesn't matter to the ordinary person either here or in China/ Indonesia. The average person here in the west knows that politicians will bang on about climate change and countless new taxes will be dreamt up while the local farmer in Indonesia who wants to clear a patch of rainforest to plant his crops really couldn't give two hoots about a lecture from a comfortable, well fed scientist in London.

Lots more...stretching all the way to SW Ireland! ....and if they keep going once inland they look to be coming straight down the M4 to my neck of the woods. Could be an interesting night! -

The sunshine will be great! I' m not so happy about the bouts of heavy rain forecast for Sun, Mon, Tue, Wed. These could cause problems given the already soggy ground conditions. -
Yes they have at 20.43.....all a bit odd ...yakking down with rain here
-
Being 5 miles north of Basingstoke does that mean I get sleet?? I can hardly contain my excitement! Temp 2.1c DP -0.3c
-
Yes strange over the last hour temp has dropped from 2.0 to 1.7c but more impressively Dp has taken a dive from -1.2c to -1.8c. I had discounted tonight as being a soggy affair here........but now I'm not so sure.

Then why have the ever cautious Met Office updated their yellow warning area, pushing it south to Farnham and west to Bristol;and saying "2-4 cm is likely in the south of the yellow warning area, with 4-8 cm over some hillier areas" ?? sa- 1,317 replies

Interesting that those in the SW thread (I have an identity crisis SW or SE?) are reporting snow ...even areas like Weston-super-mare right on the coast. They were meant to have rain from the start with no transient snow. Looking good for snow here later.- 1,317 replies

No worries here. Two of the greatest blizzards to ever hit the region 10 March 1891 and 19 February 1978. I've just double checked the date .....it's the 24th of January, all day today! Plenty of time yet, even if we rule out the next couple of weeks.
-
Yes, I've just checked with friends in Four Marks --nothing happening there yet either...despite the (inaccurate) radar showing otherwise. Good luck!
-
Waiting for something here. radar showing that light something is about 5 miles away to my south. Dp has risen from -0.8c to-0.3c in the last hour but temp has remained steady at 1.8c I have no wind.

Hi katemart. Matinee, then early...ish dinner with friends somewhere nearby. Thanks for the hill warning and parking advice. The real challenge will be the couple of country lanes I have to negotiate up here before getting to a main road. Good luck with your snow. Ours is imminent looking at the radar. -

Morning! just woken up to see how things are shaping up. Mrs kiwi not too happy and thinks I 've lost the plot! I' 'll be interested to hear how you get on for snow in your area as I' m meant to be driving down with the kids on Sat to see Jack and the beanstalk at the Mayflower theatre. I' m thinking that it is unlikely to happen and to be honest an afternoon on our sledges up here sounds like more fun. -
Wow! Is the weather forecast to cool down any time soon? Is this just affecting Nsw or is it more widespread? Those temps are hard to imagine, with half of netweather here in the UK sat up in the early hours as snow sweeps across the country.

Hi Schmalex, late Mon afternoon and through the night into Tue early morning is looking promising at the moment with a front associated with that low stalling over us in the mid south.

Unbelievable run from the ECM. I'm sat here with my mouth hanging open ....it's epic and sustained!! If this happens I'm looking forward to viewing some fab photos from all over the region next week...(well, once the power lines are up and running again)
-
Fingers crossed that you'll get snow ...although a quick trip over Portsdown hill and you'll lose any of the marginal coastal influence. Even better .....Butser Hill is a really spectacular sledging destination if you can get yourself those few miles up the A3!!
