  1. Well slap ma face wi' a wet fish! It actually snowed here today! Off course, it didn't lie as the ground is too wet but at least it did snow! Been a beautiful day here, crisp, clear blue skies, snow flurries too! In between flurries I was out wi' ma trusty log splitter making sure I had enough logs for stove and fire. It's right cosy in here noo so it was well worth the effort. Enjoy the white stuff wherever you are, it's been a long time coming! ?️
  2. Hey Guys....GUYS!!! I just looked out the window and guess what? Light rain only. 2.2c. Sighs deeply. XC tells me I'll have about 15cm of SNAW on Friday. I wonder what noxious substances their forecasters are partaking of these days. ☁
  3. Today's weather report from Skye. Pish. Dennis chappin' at the door and sideways rain as an accompaniment. We did actually have a couple of nice days this week but we are back to normal now. Temp hit -2c early Thursday morning and the sun came out. Braw! Currently 5.9c and miserable with it. Haven't even seen one snowflake this winter, snow reserved for mountain tops only. It can only improve!
  4. Dry and breezy here and all is remarkably green! A few big thunder rumbles last night with a couple more mini power cuts. I see Dennis will be coming to tea over the weekend. I wonder if he'll be as wild ( NOT! ) as his wee buddy Ciara. I gave up trying to keep the stove going in the kitchen yesterday. More smoke blew down the chimney than went up it. Had to open the windows to let the smoke out, as well as any heat! So a pointless task really. Back to using wee fan heater in kitchen until wind drops, which may be a long way away!
  5. So, Ciara was a non event really and as for the snow forecast....... well! Yesterday there was sun, then rain, then sleet, then hail, then thunder and lightning, then.......nae snaw! A wee dusting on the Cuillin and we are back to rain again. Looks like we could be in for another blustery weekend though. Don't cha just lurve Scottish winters!
  6. I think she's done and gone from here now! We have bits of blue sky appearing and the wind has all but disappeared!
  7. It's gone very dark out there and wind has dropped. The calm before the storm?
  8. Well, we had plenty of blusteriness yesterday and a few wee splashes of rain overnight. Showers have passed through very quickly, thankfully. Still to check rain gauge to see how much rain we've had up here. Still don't know which forecast to go with for today, wind gust forecasts are varying from anything between 45 - 60mph. Certainly a lot of rain overnight as the usual loch has formed outside garage door. Fortunately it drains away very quickly. Highest wind speed I got here was 41.2mph around lunchtime. We only had two mini power blips yesterday so it wasn't really that bad. We'll see what today brings then! Stay safe everyone! Just checked and emptied rain gauge, two inches of rain since Friday morning. So a slightly damp couple of days then!
  9. Yesterday, pink fluffy clouds at sunrise. Later on, much blusteriness followed by three mini power cuts then one that lasted about thirty minutes. I went to my bed. This morning, pink fluffy clouds and a lovely sunrise and wind expected to be much stronger than yesterday. I road tested a small battery lantern last night, great wee thing. I think it may be well used later on! Stay safe Peeplings!
  10. Oh look! It's raining! Oh my! It's windy again! Golly gosh! Ferry suspended again! Basically a rinse and repeat scenario from just about any day in January. Too boring for words so I'll head off and make more tea.
  11. Ah well, run home to Skye on Monday was ok. A little bit of white stuff lying at Crianlarich then basically hail and sleet till we got a few miles north of Fort Willam. I reckon about five inches of lying snow at Invergarry viewpoint. We followed a gritter a good bit along the A87 so going was slow but safe. When we got to Skye.....everything was green apart from the mountain tops and that is now fast disappearing. Back to the usual dreich pish noo and the temp has gone up by about 5 degrees. Got to be the quickest winter ever!
  12. Oh, deep joy! ❄❄❄ Forecast for Monday when I have a 200 mile drive home to Skye from Central belt. Not a happy bunny as I hate driving in snow. Fortunately I have a co-driver with me so we can share the driving. It'll be a longer journey than normal that's for sure! See you on the white side! ❄❄❄❄
  13. And Lo! The murk descendeth. Again. So damned boring. At least the drizzle went off long enough yesterday afternoon to let me wash the car. Doesn't get much more exciting than that. No fire on in the sitting room since weekend, I just have the stove on in the kitchen and leave the door open and it's still cosy! So, are we ever going to see winter? ❄
  14. Flying canoe located and will be rescued when the crap weather calms doon a bit! Was dry and calm overnight but we did have a few lightning flashes around 10pm. Back to the usual horizontal sleet and rain now.
  15. Ah well, the canoe which was securely tied down in my garden now resides in my neighbours croft where it will stay until later this week when the winds die down.
  16. Just had a very interesting drive home from Portree. Brendan beginning to bare his teeth. Biggest wind gust so far 40mph at 11.11. Worse to come. I am now bedded in by the fire with tea and scone and strawberry jam. Lights have flickered a few times since 11 0'clock when I got home. A day of knitting and puzzler magazines I think. At least it isn't cold or raining....yet! See you on the other side. ?️
  17. Temp is -0.8c just now, lowest it's been since that lovely cold snap in November. Rained a bit overnight so probably a wee bit skitey oot. Fortunately I'm not driving till much later on. And back to the usual pish tomorrow. Ho hum.
  18. Much calmer today. Current temp 2.6c which is vastly preferable to the double figure nonsense we've had over the last few days. The sky is clearing and the ferry is just pulling away from the pier. It didn't run on Monday morning either, so odd will be really p1ssed off that they'll be going to school today. Aaaaw, wee shame! Been a while since I've seen clear skies but I'm not kidding myself as there's more crap weather to come. Best make the most of this calm period and take a turn around the garden to see what rubbish has blown in.
  19. Rain finally stopped and a wee bit calmer now and still very mild. More rubbish weather to come at the weekend. Winter, where are you? Longing for clear skies and frosty days.
  20. Got the soup pot bubbling away. Lighting the fire soon, got knitting and books to hand, torches too. Cleaned, trimmed wick and filled oil lamps. Nothing else I can do. Bring it! ?️?️
  21. Ah well, here we go! Had a wee puff of 50mph just after 6 this morning, and as I was making a cuppa and feeding kitties the power went off for about 10 seconds. Currently charging batteries for lanterns, have plenty coal, wood etc so should be ok. It's to get worse later on, so I'll just coorie in by the fire for the day. See you on the other side!
  22. Very blustery overnight which resulted in a bit of guttering being ripped off. I rescued it and left it in the garage till our local builder gets a dry day to put it back up. More blusteriness tomorrow so here's hoping everything else stays intact!
  23. So winter has finally arrived here. Temp is -9.5c and there's five inches of snow on the ground. And.... Oh, wait a minute, I've just woken up! Checks window.... raining again! Temp is actually 9.5c and the ground is just mush. Ah well, a girl can dream! Suppose I'd best get on. Got knitting, ironing, log chopping to do before I head out this afternoon to catch the latest Star Wars epic. Really looking forward to Tuesday's fab weather ( not! ) so best check that everything is tied doon outside.
  24. Terrible dreich days recently. Saturday night into Sunday morning temp axed out at 14.6c. Also had a blast of wind at 60.6mph at 4.30am same day followed by lots of wet stuff. Skies cleared last night, been a while since I've seen starry skies! Current temp is a welcome 2c. It won't last unfortunately. Pity, it would have been nice to end the year with some frost. Hope you all have a great New Year and that we get at least one snow day this winter! Slainte!
  25. Well, it's a dull but dry Christmas Eve up here and looks to stay that way for the next few days. Hope you all have a great Christmas wherever you are! ❄❄
