  1. Aaaaaaand it's snawin' again! Wee toatie flakes, but nevertheless, it's snaw!
  2. Welcome frae a snaw covered Skye! Yes, gentle reader, it did indeed precipitate overnight and the gritters have been chuntering up an' doon the A87 big time! Will get some piccies later once the camera battery is charged.
  3. It's suddenly got very dark oot there, and on hae'in a wee keek ootside ........ it's raining! TBH I'm not expecting much else, and the outlook for the next couple of weeks is hardly inspiring. Never mind, at least we had a wee shot at winter and it wiz fair braw!
  4. Morning all! Glad to see that a good few of you are getting a blast of the white stuff. Nothing here as expected and I doubt we'll see anything from tonight's forecast. Currently around 2c, cloudy and damp. Normal for Skye at this time of the year. Roll on the rest of the winter and hopefully some more snow and ice days to come!
  5. Raining now and has been since tea time. All white frosty stuff disappeared by lunchtime, although it took me a good 30 minutes to defrost the car this morning. By the time I was returning home after maybe a couple of hours in Portree the temp had climbed from -1.5c to +1.5c. So I guess the wintry spell is over up here. Nice while it lasted though!
  6. Morning all! Temp dropped overnight to it's lowest yet this winter, -4.4c. Currently at -3.1c. It barely managed to scrape above freezing all day yesterday. Big change on the way for the weekend though. Back to the usual dross of horizontal rain. Deep joy!
  7. Good morning from a beautiful and frosty Skye! Temp currently around the -2c mark, clear skies, and no wind. Love it! Another walk on the cards today, it's too good a chance to miss. On yesterday's walk I saw the local golden eagle. Been seen quite a lot over the last few days, once fairly close to my back door. Also saw two otters playing on the shore last week. This seen from my bedroom window. How lucky am I?
  8. Morning all! Snaw shields intact here, calm, cold and dry. I'll take that over horizontal rain any day! Looks like there's a * possibility* of white stuff here Thursday. I won't look out the snaw shovel though, that would just mega jinx the whole set up! My bedroom weather station tells me it's 53c outside. Hhhhmm. Something not quite right there! In reality it's around the 2c mark.
  9. Morning all! Currently 1.5c, up from a low of 0.5c overnight. We also had rain so the roads will be fun today! Dry and clear, so hopefully another walk sometime today.
  10. Just back from my friends house after a lovely Ne'er day nosh up! Skies in Skye are clear and sparkly. Temp around 1.9c. Gorgeous night and looks set to continue. Braw!
  11. Greetings and a Guid New Year tae a' oan the kilted Thread! May 2021 bring us buckets o' snaw and clear frosty days! For the first time in over 50 years I didn't stay up to see the New Year in. Since my visitors are confined to barracks for the foreseeable future I didn't see any point in staying up. Will be heading out later to my extended household friend for dinner and drinks and hopefully a doggie walk if the weather stays dry. Hope you all have a grand day and I look forward to more excited comments on here as the promise of snaw is fulfilled! Slainte!
  12. Was going to go for a walk but since I now have horizontal rain I've changed my mind! Tomorrow looks better, so the first stretch of the legs of 2021 looks on the cards!
  13. Raining, dreich, mild at 5c. Nae wonder I take a drink!
  14. Not long returned from a short walk. Would have stayed out longer but on came a freezing shower of..... sleet! Absolutely baltic! Wind chill knocked a good few degrees off the temperature, so I just headed home. I know I wont see any snow over the next few days, but as long as it stays dry and frosty I'll be quite happy!
  15. Good morning from a lovely chilly Skye! Current temp is 0.2c having dragged itself up from the not so lowly depths of -2c overnight. Yesterdays high was 4.2c. Loving the moon shots folks! I tried to take a few myself but every time I was just about ready I ended up playing hide and seek due to some very annoying clouds! So to cheer myself up this morning I had a wee look at the charts this morning and saw these..... but then I gave myself a good slap and said that's two weeks away! How much will it change in that timescale? Loads probably. But I don't care, that's what I call proper eye candy!
  16. Morning Happy Campers! Some lovely snow pics there. sadly none from Skye. Today we have rain. Sleety, pishy rain. Horrible. It might improve later in the week, might even see some sunshine if I go looking for it!
  17. Out to Portree this morning at 9.30, roads fairly clear, a car off the road a few miles from Portree but driver OK. Temp was 3.5 by this time. When I came home at 11.30 the snow had all but disappeared. Temp is now 0.01c with a beautiful clear sky and an almost full moon. Might be a bit icy out tonight and tomorrow.
  18. Verily! It snoweth! From what I could see at the back door maybe 3 - 4cms, but it now sounds like it's turning to rain. So, having scoffed breakfast I now need to get myself into gear to get ready for the weekly supply top up in Portree. Have seen gritters out and about so hopefully the road won't be that bad.
  19. Depends which weather station I want to believe! One says 954hpa, another says 966hpa. Take your pick!
  20. Well that was a very brief wintry type of day! Snaw all but gone, replaced by sleet and rain. Very short lived and not looking like we'll get any more up here. Och well, it was nice while it lasted!
  21. Well, would you believe it? It has actually snowed overnight!!! Not a lot mind you, but at least it's white out there! Temp hovering around freezing too, so really, a perfect winter's day! Will try and get some piccies later on!
  22. Just had a very heavy hail shower, so more white stuff atop the hill. Think I need a new sensor for one of my weather stations as it's currently showing 19c! Earlier this week it was showing 46c! Hhhhhmmmm. Wonder if it's the rain getting into it somewhere and affecting the readings. Bummer!
  23. Morning all! A lovely day yesterday, a little rain overnight and this morning it's about 2c and cloudy. Another walk today I think to get the old muscles moving as I doubt I'll be going very far over the next few days! Last night was our last at the local hostelry for some time. Big roaring fire, ginormous Christmas tree and a very pleasant couple of hours in most convivial company. If it's nice on Ne'er Day we may manage a wee toast to 2021 outside with yet another big fire and a few drams! Hope you all have a great Christmas and hope you have lots of snow soon! Edited to say that there's a good dusting of snow on the Cuillin! A bit more please, down to my level! That would be nice!
  24. Morning all from a crisp and very fresh feeling Skye! Temp currently 1.7c, a few clouds and very calm and clear. Out for a walk later today, but will have to light stove in the kitchen first! Enjoying those charts but I refuse ( as usual! ) to build up my hopes for any white stuff falling here. There is, however, a light dusting on the Cuillin and also over on the mainland hills, so you never know!
  25. Well, it finally stopped raining this afternoon! Popped out as it was getting dark to see if I could catch a glimpse of the conjunction, but NAW! A little too much cloud and hills in the way. Bummer. It's a wee bit breezy now, but not terribly cold. Wondering if we'll actually get any white stuff and cold after Christmas as some charts are promising us! I await with interest the charts for Boxing Day onwards!
